Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Priority Club Downgraded? Room was comfortable and clean. Everything worked. No complaints with the room, staff or property. The room did NOT have a refrigerator nor did the ice machine on the first floor want to dispense ice. One of the staff members volunteered to hustle off to the kitchen and get me some ice. No complimentary breakfast on it yourself at the on location restaurant. February 9, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A long drive... We stopped and stayed here on our drive back home from the Chicago area. We still had a long drive ahead of us and it was nice to find a pet friendly hotel. We had a great experience and the staff was wonderful. The hotel was clean and comfortable. We would stay here again :) January 15, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Old facility with poor cleanliness. With other HI options in the Des Moines area, I would definitely take a pass on this facility. It's an old property with a bad makeover. The rooms are small and very unclean. There are no amenities such as refrigerator, microwave or breakfast bar. Try the one in Urbandale. It's a great experience there. January 1, 2014

The staff was great, and the room service from an attached restaurant was excellent both in service and food quality.....but the room itself was small and cramped for the price, the bathroom was similarly small and tight. There was no free breakfast. The in room coffee service was one of those single cup makers which produced very little, poor quality coffee in the AM. Put a coffee brewer in the room and rent it for 40 bucks a night less and it might be an okay deal. As it was, it was not. January 1, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Over Priced and Worn Out I have been a loyal traveler who normally stays at another hotel chain for years with over 200 nights per year. A friend mentioned that Holiday Inn's have really improved and that I should give them a try. Well I did, I booked my week and had three different Holiday Inn/Express/Suites. This property was the worst I have ever stayed in. The room was old and out dated it smelled musty, the chair at the desk was worn completely out, you could see the foam due to the fabric was torn. The bed was "ok" but that was for only one night, not sure I would have been happy with more nights. Back to my old stand by properties for me, the worst hotel/Inn is better than the "suite" this property had to offer! December 7, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and surroundings. We were in Des Moines for a college football game and the staff and accomodations were excellent. It is an older hotel, but that did not enter into the picture of cleanliness, location, and amenities. At first we were disappointed that they did not have a complimentary breakfast, but we were so happy to see the Bennigans attached to the hotel. Yes, we would recommend this property. The fact that Bennigans is attached to the hotel just ads more value for your breakfast, lunch and dinner options! Food was great there. Great gym and pool too just to unwind after a busy day! As I kept realizing that I forgot little things, such as a toothbrush/toothpaste, and a razor. Haha. Everything was very clean and upkept. No complaints! October 13, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor WiFI. Odor During my stay, the staff was fine. Not over the top but efficient. My room had a bad musty odor all 3 nights. Seemed to be coming from AC unit. Wifi service was sporatic and weak. I would not recommend this hotel unless some improvements are made. Bennigans on the property was great. Limited menu but great food. October 1, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Des Moines - Northwest The beds are way too soft (but if that is what you are looking for than you are set). There were roaches in one if the rooms that we booked and ants in mine. The cleaning staff didn't vacuum and also left dirty rags in the bathroom when they left. The AC units are out of date. Of the 3 rooms that we booked over the week we were there 2 of them had strange smells (a mixture of mildew and pet urine). The front desk staff was delightful and the location was convenient to the interstate. September 26, 2013

No TV remote in room, one delivered about a hour after being notified of problem but it did not work so still had to use the old fashion method of going to the TV to change channels, browse the guide, etc. Was told they were going to be putting refrigerators in rooms next year which will be nice for future stays. Missed not having the convenience of at least a small breakfast. September 17, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed, musty odor After looking at a less expensive room at another property, we decided it would be better to pay more for a better room at the Holiday Inn. The lobby and common areas looked nice, so we asked about room availability and cost. The front desk experience at check-in went well, and we were given a room on the 2nd floor with a newly remodeled bathroom. We opened the door and immediately smelled a musty odor. We turned on the air conditioner hoping that would help. There was a patio door to a small balcony, but that had been sealed shut. Since we had been in the car for better than 10 hours we were tired and hungry and did not want to reload our luggage and move to another room. On the way to dinner, we stopped at the front desk and asked if they had any air freshener. We were told that one of the maintenance people would stop by our room and spray some air freshener. Returning to the room 2 hours later, there was no difference. It was not the best, but it was also not the worst, so we stayed put. On checking out in the morning, I mentioned all of this to the desk clerk, and he was kind enough to give us a small discount. September 11, 2013

This was my 2nd stay at this hotel, which wound up being a bit more poor than the first. The rooms are indeed dated, which I am usually ok with. Worst part of the stay were the cobwebs in the upper corners of the room, extreemly low shower water pressure in bathroom (sink and shower both) and some of the ammenities like the curtains, lamps, and bed cover (allergies acted up during my stay only when I was sleeping) were dusty. My reccomendations are to choose one of the other Holiday Inn locations (Urbandale, Downtown, Ankeny, Jordan Creek) if cleanliness is what you are looking for at similar prices. September 7, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Toilets wrong on upper floors Floors 2 - 5 have the toilets turned sideways and if you are a BIG person you can't sit on them. The first floor has been redone but all the upper Flora will not be done for a year. The staff and hotel is great except for this issue. September 2, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tired and Noisy Room was greatly in need of refurbishing. Carpet were badly worn, furniture old. Siding doors were locked so no fresh air was available. Room was off back parking lot which was very noisy with people congregating into the late evening hours. Bed was confortable but bathroom was small, dated and worn. August 22, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No room service for vegetarians. The room service menu does not have ONE entrée that doesn't contain meat. So I called room service and ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and a side of sweet potato fries. They refused to deliver because it was off of the kids's menu. I asked what he recommended a vegetarian order from the room service menu, and he had no suggestions. So I went out to eat and spent my money elsewhere, as I'm likely to do in the future. The room overall was nice, except for the whirlpool. I always get a whirlpool room, and the hot water ran so slowly that it literally took over 45 minutes for the tub to fill. The cold water ran normal, so if you wanted to soak in cold water then no problem. August 21, 2013
