Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK but a bit average There's nothing much wrong with this hotel. It's clean, relatively modern, service is good. Food was reasonable but limited. It does, however, have no charm or character. Everything is just like you'd find in almost any standard hotel anywhere. And they charge you extra for WiFi - and it is expensive. Quite ridiculous to be charged extra for internet when you're spending this amount of money when you normally get free internet at any coffee shop. If you just need a place to crash, it's fine. Sadly our problem after 8 days with our bill is still not resolved, after 5 phone calls to the hotel an email not responded to by HO. Every time I have telephoned to ask for this problem to be resolved on the card it costs me money!... The hotel has said it is a bank holiday problem... however since our stay until now there is only one bank holiday and is not really a guest friendly excuse... such a shame we were visiting friends 140 miles from home for my husbands birthday and did have a lovely time. MY PARTY OF SIX THOROUGHLY ENJOYED ALL ASPECTS OF OUR STAY. ROOMS WERE ALL WE EXPECTED AND MORE, THE FOOD AT DINNER WAS IDEAL AND SERVICE FROM EVERYONE RIGHT FROM CHECK IN TO CHECK OUT WAS EXCELLENT. A PARTICULAR MENTION MUST GO TO OUR HOST FOR THE EVENING, STEVE, WHO MADE ALL FEEL WELCOME AND DID A BRILLIANT JOB WITH THE ENTERTAINMENT. January 4, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by bad experience On arrival at the room the table lamp was covered in dust. In the bathroom there was toothpaste on the side of the sink and the door wouldn't lock. To make matters worse, when I moved the chair the back fell out and landed on my bare toe resulting in bad bruising. When we informed the desk staff they knocked the price of breakfast off the bill. Definitely won't be staying with Holiday Inn again January 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant stay I Have used this hotel on numerous occasions throughout the year and have mostly been satisfied with my stays. Having had previous issues, I now request a certain area for my room to be based for sleep quality and have found this mostly works. Most of the staff are very friendly and recognise me from previous stays. Free wifi is now available in the rooms but this can keep stopping requiring you to keep logging in. As stated in previous feedback, you do have to remind certain members of staff of your membership status and I get the impression that you are interrupting the arrangement of their hectic social life! Thankfully they are the minority. On the whole though it's a pleasant stay. December 27, 2013

I noticed closer to the event that breakfast is now included in the price. As a Priority Club member I was lead to believe that breakfast is included anyway and when I explained this to the receptionist she made no comment but gave us breakfast vouchers marked paid. I assumed that meant we would be given breakfast at no extra charge. On checking out, however, I found to my dismay that we had been charged after all. As this was now a different receptionist I explained the situation was was just told that breakfast is never included at that hotel. I feel I was tricked into this as we were not advised of the price of eating or told that we would have to pay anyway. December 26, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good clean hotel but disappointed as a Platinum Elite member I have stayed in this hotel on several occasions now and on EVERY occasion that I have stayed, despite being a Platinum Elite member, I have never had a room upgrade, never been acknowledged as a Platinum member and the only thing they ever give you is the standard 500 bonus points. I have stayed at numerous other Holiday Inns where they will go out of their way to offer you a little extra and acknowledge your loyalty to the IHG brand but it does seem to be lacking a lot these days but Holiday Inn Wakefield seem to do nothing! On my latest stay, 23-24th Dec, an extremely QUIET period, something that was even acknowledged by the staff, I wasn't upgraded automatically and when I asked if this would be possible, I was told they had no rooms to upgrade me to. The only thing they do give you, the 500 points, I had to ask for. I hadn't got the free Internet option available when I tried logging on so I had to ask for this as well. When I asked if I could have a late check-out, I was told the best they could do was 1PM, even though when I had phoned up the day before, they said they were very quiet and it shouldn't be a problem. There were barely any cars in the car park and this isn't a hotel in the middle of the city centre so I highly doubt there were no executive suites available to upgrade me to, highly doubt they couldn't have done a later check-out and I highly doubt they even notice when they get a Platinum member staying with them from my experiences. To their credit, when I did ask the following morning, if a late check-out would be an option (this was a different member of staff), they said it wasn't a problem and would do it. Too little too late though really. I know things like upgrades and late check outs are stated as being subject to availability but I have stayed at this hotel on at least 6 different occasions in the last 12 months and to never do it and to not do it on one of your quietest periods seems to me like they never will! Overall, although a nice clean hotel, I never feel valued here as a rewards member. December 25, 2013

BUT... don`t stay in the hotel if they have a party booked as you probably will have a restless night with 1. The noise from the room where the party is being held if your room is within 100ft of it. Resulting in me requesting another room. 2.. The noise of the people leaving the party and going to their rooms, then continuing to party there....I have had this issue throughout December. Some peoiple have to be up early to go to work...Other than this it is a good hotel.. December 23, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Customer Satisfaction Zero I booked a double bedded room, 3 weeks in advance and prepaid. When I checked in I was allocated a room with 2 single beds, wondering if was to share with anyone I went back to reception to clear this up to be informed they had no more double bedded rooms available, like it or lump it but was offered a free drink at the bar. I declined the £3.50 drink. How does that work booked 3 weeks in advance ?? I did sleep in the single bed as I assumed it would be more comfortable than my car....upon reflection maybe not .... I did ask that when I return next week, could I ensure that I have a double bed please..... Im sure they will pull the stops out !! November 25, 2013

Whilst I have not had the pleasure of actually sleeping in a real prison cell, I am certain the room I was allocated by Holiday Inn Leeds/ Wakefield comes pretty close. Once through the initial entrance the room physically measured 11ft by 14ft ...... I assume that as a Gold priority club member and company IHG Business account holder, I am a relative captive customer and therefore gets the worst room ? Or does this Hotel have smaller rooms and my room was actually one of the best ..... .?? November 25, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 TV not working, painfully slow internet As a Platinum member, i normally receive an upgrade when staying at HI Wakefield. It was full this time, so no upgrade. However, the digital TV stations kept blacking out every 5 seconds, so watching a progreamme was impossible. Also, the 'free' internet was so slow I couldn't even download emails larger than 50k, it was taking forever. Normally the standard is much better but alas, not this time. November 18, 2013

I was extremely disappointed that in this day and age you can book an executive room for a 5 day business trip and still be expected to pay for internet usage.
