Not my best Holiday Inn experience. I am a loyal customer of IHG group; but if this is your first IHG experience it will likely put you off staying at more.
Staff - did there best. The front desk staff all appeared to be new at the job and everyone seemed to have difficulties in processing even the simplest of check-in / check-out processes.
Front Desk - For the size of hotel, the front desk area is ridiculously small. No priority offered to PC members, no recognition of PC memebers.
Rooms appeared to be reasonable; not the best Hol Inn normally can offer. Bed was great and this is something IHG always seem to get right.
Food - well I'd leave it and eat out.
Elevator - Get a low floor. These are the slowest elevators I've come across. Not just in actual floor to floor speed; but also in the floor call operation and sequencing.

This hotel seems better on paper than in person. For a start, it is a fairly long walk to the nearest metro station. That aside, when we finally arrived at the hotel, the service was limited which is to say there was only one person that seemed to be working the desk and he was extremely slow. Perhaps it was the awful stench in the lobby that hits you when you walk in, like a combination of old clam chowder and sweaty socks that made the check in time seem even longer. After we got out of the lobby and into our room - it didn't seem too bad. Though the bathroom was VERY small, fortunately it was only for one night... One very long night as it turned out! Although it was a spring night it was cold so we needed to use the heat. Well, the unit switched on and off all through the night - and it was SO LOUD it woke us up all night long. By morning we were exhausted. It even woke up our young daughter who generally sleeps through loud noises like thunderstorms. Needless to say we checked out first thing in the morning. It's also worth noting that the elevators are quite slow. I wouldn't recommend the hotel and certainly wouldn't return. The cost of the room was obscene in the face of the accommodation. Oh and a couple last things - there was no recognition of priority club status and to top it off, the free in room Internet service was nonexistent.

I've stayed at this hotel numerous times over the past several months for a few nights here and there and the location is perfect. The rooms are comfortable and clean and staff are always accommodating. HOWEVER, this property has the worst WIFI of any hotel I have ever stayed. Its fortunate it is free because it rarely is connectable and nobody in their right mind would pay money for it. For someone who requires or needs WIFI in their room during their visit this is NOT a good choice. I unfortunately require this and am sad to say despite all the good things this hotel has to offer I cannot stay here again. It is clear they have no intentions over months and months and complaints about improving it.

cherry blossom season (highly recommend the trolley-fun/informative). the staff (both shifts) went above and beyond. they were friendly, pleasant, and very accommodating. my room was verrry comfortable, quiet, and well-stocked. hotel is a little further away from the sites than i thought but not too far and great for the price. (bonus - around the corner from a whole foods store!). while in the lobby noticed several people wanting to stay there but getting turned away due to no vacancy. so book early!

After many years staying at the Holiday Inn Central, Festus, Larry and Thomas are like old friends. Houskeeping continues to talk loudly in the hall; our only complaint. Room Service is better than the restaurant.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by nkdkjkkk Too far away from everything
Only stayed two nights but had to get our key changed twice because it would not work in restrooms or in our room. After a long hard day going back down to the lobby to do this is a pain in the neck. Breakfast was weak and expensive. It is too far away from everything. Because the "hop on hop off bus" was so unreliable we had to walk or take taxis everywhere and from this hotel it was expensive. Was not impressed. Would stay closer to the monuments and /or Union Station next time.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Teresa87 Rude staff, broken toilets, overpriced breakfasts and parking
When we called ahead to alter a reservation, the rude woman at the desk KEPT HANGING UP ON US! Incredibly rude. We ended up having to talk to someone at corporate.
I'm very happy to say that we did not need to deal with her in person. However, the toilet in our room NEVER FLUSHED the whole weekend we were there; it was not fixed. Disgusting!
Breakfast cost $15 per person and $25 per person on Sundays! Obviously, we ate elsewhere! And parking is very expensive, hard to find, and dirty.
NEVER COMING BACK. I wouldn't come back IF YOU PAID ME.

Check in was quick, and the staff very pleasant. The lobby is a bit dated. Our room was on the 7th floor, very clean and comfortable. The neighborhood was quite nice. There are several restaurants a block over on 14th street. We walked down to the Mall. It is doable if you are in good shape, takes about 40 minutes. There is a subway stop about 4 blocks away. We had the breakfast buffet one morning. The food was standard.

My wife and I recently visited Washington and picked this hotel basically on price as we had no other information to go on....we were very pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in a pretty nice hotel located near Dupont Circle and within reasonable walking distance of the Metro....this is not a luxury hotel, but very adequate for our needs and tastes.....a great way to be in Washington without spending too much of our travel budget on our hotel!

Thank you.

Our family spent a week at this hotel in March 2013. We had a great experience. The hotel was clean and comfortable, the restaurant was good and a great value, and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly! Centrally located near great restaurants and close to the Metro, we would definitely stay here again!

Thank goodness we were only there for one night. Beds were the most uncomfortable that I have ever slept in in a hotel. Matresses were so old that you could only feel the lumps and springs of the mattress, Holiday Inn listen up you need to replace the matresses at this location! Requested a cot for the room, NEVER showed up. Had dinner in hotel restaurant, what a MISTAKE? Should have braved the cold and gone somewhere else. Minestrone soup (told it has homemade) tasted like Progresso soup out of a can. Salad was old and wilted. My husband and son had a rib combo, said it was like chewing leather. Dinner for 4 of us cost $125.00, I don't mind spending money on a good meal, but this was throwing my money away. Hotel staff were present, that is all I can say about them. They didn't do much else. I must say that we always stay at Holiday Inn's when we are travelling, but I will definitely look for another property in Washington D.C. because I will definitely not be returning to this one!

I stayed one month ago, and returned for a personal stay this time (brought my son). The lobby, bar and restaurant were all redone and improved. The staff immediately recognized my Platinum status & upgraded my room. It was clean and comfortable and roomy.
Breakfast was good in the hotel (not great, but perfectly fine). Still not extremely close to things, but a 10 minute walk to the White House or to Dupont Circle.
All in all, a good hotel for the $$$.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by PLW1969 Tired Hotel Needs an Update
This hotel is very "tired" and in desperate need of an update and cleaning. The hallway to my room smelled like a burned out vacuum cleaner motor--the stench gave me an instant headache. My room, which was "non-smoking" had obviously been a smoking room at one time because I could still smell cigarette smoke. I ended up opening the window for 1 1/2 hours to air it out, even though it was 20 degrees outside. My room service order was incorrect--not a huge deal but, when coupled with all of the other negatives, it was just one more thing to add to the list. The seats in the resturant were falling apart and the sconce lighting flickered for several seconds every 10 minutes or so. Again, instant headache. I had asked for a call from their accounting department prior to my stay, in order to switch the CC the room was billed to, but never received a call nor was the charge switched to the new card. Overall, this hotel is convenient to the association headquarters where I had meetings, but given the choice between paying more for a hotel or cost savings, I would opt for paying more. I will not stay at this property again.

Hotel is in a good spot, not too far a walk from the Metro station and a short walk to the local YMCA that I used for my workouts (their basic workout room didn't meet my requirements).
Only problem I had was with the internet connection. It was so slow as to be completely un-usable. I called to ask about it and the front desk person acknowledged the problem. She suggested I come down to the lobby for faster service or she could move me to a lower room. I appreciated her suggestion but think that since it is an ongoing issue then management/ownership should address it by adding more wireless service.

I had a problem with another Holiday Inn when I arrived in DC and called this Holiday Inn to see if I could go ahead and book a room with them for our 5 day stay. I was quoted one price and when I arrived I was charged a higher price. I stated to the girl who was helping us check in I was quoted a lower price and you are charging me a higher price. I explained that I had just lost my rewards night at the other hotel, which was fine, and I was just quoted a lower price. She stated I will give you a $100 dollar off for 2 nights which will come out to the price you were quoted. She was very professional and very accommodating to our situation. I really appreciated her for taking care of us. I would recommend this hotel to any person who is staying in DC.

The second day my key was deactivated with no explanation.
The room smelled stale.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by klen good business stay
I stayed January 17/18. Upon arrival the courteous staff immediately recognized my priority club status; I was put in a bigger room. It was clean and comfortable, as was the bed. It is not close to the metro (although not far), but I walk to/from the business location so all-in-all it was fine. The price for the room was great for the size of room and was cheaper than anywhere in the area.
Note: they were redoing the lobby and restaurant area when I was there. On previous stays, it was adequate, and they have free coffee/tea for guests. I will check out the lobby updates when I return this month.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ZimZam poor management of construction process
I should have been informed when I made reservations that the property was scheduled for construction and painting during the time of my stay. When having breakfast it was hard to even talk over the noise of circular saws in the area right next to the where we were eating. This problem was NOT an intermittent condition, but rather constant during our whole stay.
This was an inconvenience that certainly was planned far in advance of my making a reservation and feel that the least you should have done was give me a "heads up".

I know that they are current redoing some of the facility, so maybe I hit a bad time. The restaurant was not very good. The decor was bad, since plastic hanging over one side and the sound of saws being heard during business hours. Workout room was really bad. Equipment was out of order or in disrepair. best to just shut it down. The room was decent though.

We chose this hotel for the great value and the proximity to the tourist attractions. The rooms were spotless, and I especially liked that the bathtub grout was sparkling white! Nothing like a grimy grout to ruin your vacation. I thought the carpets were dirty so I wore my shoes in the room (forgot to bring the flip flops). I did not like the fact that there was construction going on although it wasn't noisy, I would have liked to have known that in advance. We froze in the restaurant while we were eating because of the plastic sheets hanging around us while they were fixing things. But I will forgive that because there was no noise at all from the construction.

Nigel and Shannon took excellent care of us when we went down to complain about the door to the bathroom. They moved us to another room the same day and answered our questions and made recommendations. They were in the middle of remodeling the bar so the food was OK but I'm sure once the renovations are done the food quality will improve. Central to a lot of DC locates, near the restaurants on P street and not too far from the Metro.
Laundry closet needs more space so you can get in it easier.
