the only thing about our stay was not too many places to eat that was in walking distance

The only plus point is the location. It is within walking distance to the US Capitol and Smithsonian Museums.
The A/C unit was really loud. I had already changed room once as the A/C unit in another room was even louder. The other shocking thing is that this hotel provides NO kettle. I thought it is a fairly basic appliance, apparently not the case here.

A friend of mine was kind enough to call up to the Holiday Inn and pay for a breakfast for me. This was a very thoughtful act, followed up by several phone calls to make sure the front desk knew to inform me that breakfast had been paid for by my friend. Upon checking in I was handed a breakfast voucher and told "breakfast is taken care of" which only sounded to me like it was some run of the mill continental breakfast which was included in my stay at the Holiday Inn. It was not communicated to me what "breakfast" really was or that it had been this kind gift. As a result, I went to breakfast in the morning next door at a deli which seemed to have more options. Only later did I learn the true story. I am a bit annoyed and most unsatisfied with the front desk's lack of communication.

Although our room was on the side of the hotel by the train that was not so bad as being located above the parking garage. Every time a car entered and exited the garage I was awaken.
The band in the lounge was also very loud and could be heard perfectly in my room.
If I had not been there on business these things would not have been so bothersome. But having to get up at 6 am after a poor nights sleep is never a good experience.

Outstanding services. Location, cleanliness, price, staff and comfort. Very happy with our stay. Would definitely stay there again and recommended this hotel to others.

I travel a lot for work to the DC area and my 1st hotel choice was booked. The website pics of this hotel put me in
Mind of a shell game. The hallway carpet was bleach stained. The 2nd floor smelt like garbage when leaving the elevator. The gym was not up to standard. Of the 3 treadmills only 1 worked and they didn't have sani wipes to clean the equipment after each use. My shower head was coming away from the wall and the internet was free because it was almost non existant, too slow for words. Oh and I must mention it cost an extra 10.00 a day to have a microwave in your room. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here. And finally the gift shop wanted 22.00 for a tshirt. I walked to the hotel I usually stay at and paid 6.00.

The room was average and I understand they are currently undergoing some renovations so it is hopeful that will improve. There were someone else's dirtu tube socks under the ruffle of one of the beds in my room, which made me leery about how well the room was cleaned after the last guest left. Everything else appeared to be clean and replenished. There was no hot water for showers during my stay and also no way to save towels other than putting up the Do No Disturb sign in the door.
The bellmen and desk staff were nice and helpful for places to eat in the area. I am hopeful that the next stay there will be after the upgrades have been made. Overall an Okay experience ams close to the conference I was there for. The Starbucks on site was a welcom sight in the mornings!!
