Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Return visit after 3 years - the good and the not so good We stayed at this hotel 3 years ago and loved it for its location and facilities. So there was no question that we would choose this hotel again for our latest visit. This time we had a king room instead of 2 queen beds. Unfortunately the room was at the back of the hotel right on the railway line and also close to the demolition work on a neighbouring building which went all night, every night. For a five night stay, this meant that by the end of our visit we were ready to move on and get a full uninterrupted night's sleep elsewhere. The hotel is looking a little tired and sad with small issues like arms on the office chair being down to the foam, the grab rail in the bathroom being loose, only one luggage rack for two guests etc. But when we mentioned these issues to the receptionist on checkout she noted all the details and also credited my priority club with another 25,000 points and gave us a free breakfast (we hadn't eaten yet that morning). She mentioned that the hotel is about to start a refurbishment so we are hoping that when we return next time (and we will return) we will find a refreshed and vibrant hotel. November 21, 2013

It is in a great location near the museums and is located near the metro with access to many locations on the mall. I will definitely stay there again. November 18, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by I've been in worse, I've been in better Front desk staff was very courteous and helpful. Rooms seem a little tired. Exercise facilities were really subpar - many machines were broken, entire space was too small (being tall, I almost hit my head on the ceiling whenever I stood on the treadmill or elliptical.) While service at the restaurant was excellent, the meal was not. (I had chicken that was overcooked and dry, with vegetables that were undercooked). Also the takeout food cafe that was supposed to open at 6:00AM did not open until 6:30AM. November 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location in D.C I enjoyed the location of the Hotel being 1 block from the National Mall where you could just walk to all the museums, also walk to the Capital building. The 21st Amendment bar and grill or restaurant was very good and great staff.. I loved that there was a CVS, Mc Donald's, Quiznos and other restaurants on same block. and a Starbucks at Hotel. The Hotel staff were friendly, the hotel room was clean and service was awesome, i will be coming back to this hotel for sure and have already told my friends about the hotel. Thank You. I was busy with business and never really had time to do any followup or complain as I returned to my room late exhausted. The room was cold, fortunately there was enough beeding to stay warm. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Great location I stayed at this Holiday Inn twenty years ago and remembered that we were able to walk to most of the attractions. I decided to book it again, not knowing if interior conditions had changed. I found they had changed for the better. The lobby was much larger. There was a Starbucks and parking garage entrance from the lobby. I was able to park my car in the garage, and leave it there for my entire stay. We could walk to the mall and the monuments. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided a list of local restaurants and scheduled activities. I would highly recommend this location. November 16, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Family Weekend Location, location, location! My family (2 adults & 2 teens) decided to spend a three day weekend touring D.C. This hotel offered great rates online so we booked it and headed to Washington. We arrived at noon and checked in immediately. Everyone from the parking attendant to the front desk staff to the bell captain was friendly and helpful, offering suggestions and making us feel very welcome. It was a very short walk to many attractions. We ate at the hotel breakfast buffet, my family loved it, I thought it was only fair. Dinner at the Capitol Grill was very good and the bar with live music at the 21st Amendment was very lively and fun. (The kids had enough family time by then and were happy to hang in the room while we enjoyed some adult time) Wanting to get out one night we walked down 7th Street and found a great area of shops and restaurants. I worried about walking a mile or so at night after the museums etc. were closed but everything looked beautiful at night and after a few blocks the place was packed with pedestrians enjoying the night life. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, rough around the edges I stayed in my room 3 nights while attending a technology conference. The best thing this hotel has going for it is that it's in the middle of it all. You can walk to all the great sites in DC. The room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the WIFI was horrible (1.5 Mbps), which was a big deal for me since I had been hoping to get some work done in the evenings, the shower took a long time to heat up, and when showering the water didn't drain fast enough, so the tub filled around my feet. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Car parking You charge for the parking but the system stinks. I paid the parking fee and was given a pass card to exit and enter parking lot for the week we stayed. The pass card system is an absolute failure. I had to go back to the front desk every day to re-issue the card that would not work in your garage. You should give me my cash back for all the times I had to ask attendant to let me pass because system had failed, they would play with pass and make me show card in window and finally let me pass and tell me I needed to get a new pass card - every stinking day and sometimes more than ounce in a day. The walls did seem a little thin, but we were so wiped out from sight seeing that it didn't matter. We rented a car and never used it as everything was so close. parking is $35 a/night. They have a nice little gym and you can purchase tour tickets from the lobby. We are planning on comming back with all of our kids and would not hesitate to stay here again! November 6, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 very outdated I Stayed at this hotel on Oct 26-27 I was hoping this hotel was very nice and updated.Everything from the pictures on the website was very nice even when I first pulled up very nice lots of clean windows very clean lobby. Now the room not so nice looking our beds looked as though they had already been slept in.Very old carpet very low beds the bed's were so messy and loose.the bathroom nice mirror lots of towels very old and outdated bath tub.This room didn't look like who ever cleaned the room took pride in their work and who ever checked the room did a very fast job checking we had messy beds and white stains in our carpet not a good look for a hotel in the downtown area I would never stay here again staying at the motel 6 was better then my staying at The Holiday Inn Washington Capital November 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel We chose the hotel for a one week vacation. The hotel staff was extremely nice and helpful. The location was perfect for touring the city. Close to many attractions and an easy pick up point. Even though we were there during a bad time, government shutdown, the staff was helpful in finding things to do. I would definitely stay at the property again and have recommended it to many friends already. Looking forward to a return trip when possible. October 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great lobby area.. The lobby area, outdoor area, and restaurants were nice. Our room needed a complete remodel. The carpet, furniture, lamps, etc. all need to be replaced. Completely worn out. Walpaper very old and stained. The bathroom should be modernize. Vanity, etc. Tiles were coming off the wall around the shower area. I requested a non-smoking room. As soon as the door was opened we could tell there had been smoking in this room. Food in restaurants was good. I checked recommend this property because of the location. October 29, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Location but Showing its Age We stayed here the weekend after the government shutdown ended. We chose this hotel because of its reasonable rate for DC and for its location near the mall, museums, etc. For seeing the mall area, you really can't beat the location. There's a metro station nearby as well so you can get all over the city without too much trouble. We slept fairly well, although we often heard doors slamming in the hallway. We ate dinner in the on-site restaurant the first night (Corner Bistro#; it was ok but expensive for what you got, and the service was only fair. The breakfast buffet at that same restaurant was good but is not included - you have to pay extra. There really aren't any good restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel, and almost everything around it #like the CVS next door# closes early or isn't open at all on Sundays. Wi-Fi is included free, but our signal wasn't very good in our room. The rooms are in need of serious updating. Everything looks worn out and dark. The rooms need to be totally redone and brightened up. Many of the electrical outlets in our room were loose and didn't even seem all that safe. The air conditioning unit was loud and should be replaced. One morning we had cold showers - we could not get the water to warm up. The hotel staff sent someone to fix it that afternoon and refunded the cost of our dinner the night before, but the next morning it was only a little better. They said it was the mix valve that needed adjustment, but I think it's a larger issue - seemed to happen in the morning at peak showering times. The water pressure also fluctuated way too much, getting far too low at times when showering. The staff was pleasant, and they promptly sent toothbrushes up to our room as soon as we asked #we had forgotten ours). I'm hearing they are going to renovate the rooms soon; I would stay again, but only after that. October 23, 2013
