Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not Impressed Well, I stayed here twice to give them the benefit of the doubt because I have a pet and this was the closest location for my job. My first stay was unsettling. I was placed on the first floor due to having a pet, which I was fine with me but the first floor was not inviting. The lighting was dimmed, the air was stale, and the first floor back hall had a large spot surrounded by signage that was sunken in like the only thing holding you up was the carpet. As it was Summer, I was quite upset to find that the back hallway was rather warm as if the heater was on and no one seemed to know why. I was looking for the menu and channel line-up in my room and the young lady at the front desk had no idea to what I was talking about when I called to inquire. Then, I had to print some documents and the ink was out on the printer and when I asked the young lady at the front desk she stated that they had no more ink for the printer. So, I was quite frustrated. I had had the last straw by the end of the first stay because I had a large roach appear in my room. Being from the South I understand roaches look for cool places and coming in by the air conditioner in the wall was the perfect place. I would just have preferred it had not been the unit in my room. I was moved to a different floor for the last night and was surprised at how welcoming, well lit, and fresh smelling the third floor was. My next stay was slightly different because I was left on the third floor since the guy that checked me in knew me from the previous week. I got to my room and immediately saw the binder with the menu and TV channels that I had asked about the previous week. Nothing occurred during my second stay but the observation I had was that the beds are uncomfortably low to the floor as if I was in a handicapped room, which I knew I was not in. I am just not a fan of my bed linens being on the floor. With the location having the "Holiday Inn" name attached, being close to shopping, and allowing pets....... I expected a better experience than I received. Then, I think I have been spoiled by other IHG locations but the little gift bag they give out for being a Platinum member at check-in is something I look for now but this time I received nothing. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Motel beginning to show age. We spent two nights at the Holiday Inn Patriot following two nights at the Holiday Inn Express in Charlottesville, VA. We have stayed at the Patriot some years ago, and it hasn't seemed to change very much. My biggest complain is in two areas: electrical outlets and the air conditioner. The room does not have adequate electrical outlets for today's many rechargeable items, i.e. phones, cameras, etc. We had to unplug a lamp and the microwave to get our items plugged in. I realize that new wiring is expensive, but the Holiday Inn Express in Charlottesville had a great feature which should not be all that expensive. The table lamps there had built-in outlets in their bases. Worked great! And with the low power needs of most recharging units, their is not electrical hazards. The air conditioner really didn't cool enough, even though we had it on the coolest setting. Again, I realize the Patriot does have some age. Our stay was not bad, it just could have been better. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Clean Room I recommend this hotel, highly. I have been staying at this hotel for years. This hotel is pet friendly, which is great. Room was clean and comfortable. The staff is super friendly. The only negative thing I have to say about this hotel is, I don't understand why the restaurant is not open in the evening. The bar opens 4:00/4:30 pm, but has a limited appetizer menu. This hotel has a very nice and comfortable bar/lounge, but the last few years I have been there, the place is dead. Years ago, they used to have entertainment on weekends and used to have the football package on Sundays. They even had a "happy hour," and regular local people coming in. Don't know what happened. Fortunately, there is an Outback Restaurant within walking distance. October 9, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bad location of Entrance/Exit Doors & Discouteous Staff Upon our check in I was very disappointed in the location of the room...at the end of the hall with an exit/entrance door located within 2 foot of our room door. Guest were constantly propping the door open and standing outside smoking and making loud noises at all hours of the night. When I called down to the front desk at 3:00 AM to complain after 30 minutes of constant loud laughter and raised voices, the response from the clerk was very impolite telling me that the guests were checking out and that she was the only employee there and that she could not do anything about the loud noise that they were making.. My suggestion to the hotel would be to make all guest after midnight to exit through the front doors of the hotel to cut down on the noise level near the rooms where other guest are sleeping..especially if the clerk at the front desk is the only employee there. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by needs to be deep cleaned and updated My stay was okay but noticed dirt that had not been cleaned around the air unit (carpet). Maybe staff does not have a crevice tool on their vacuums. I spent a lot of time at the pool and noticed that no one checked the bacteria and ph levels. We have stayed at that same hotel off and on for 32 years and I would say that it needs to be upgraded and nicer, more comfortable mattresses should be installed. Maintenance guy, (BRAD) was great to help us with a couple problems. We expected our room to at least have the sheets changed the next day and the bathroom cleaned. That did not happen. We had to ask for clean towels. July 26, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service but property needs refurbishment Came to the facility and this property is not up to Holiday Inn Standards. The side door from the parking lot does not work with multiple key cards so had to utilize the back door. Exercise room has equipment that is not usable nor easy to use. The staff was most accommodating but were limited due to property limitations. The properly is definitely dated and I would stay at the HI Express next time I am in Williamsburg and not at this Holiday Inn. July 5, 2013

So if you stay here and do not smoke, make sure you request a non-smoking room. We did not do that and had to stay in smoking room since they would not change our reservation. July 1, 2013

Second one made a bigger difference. Lighting in the bathroom was bad. Bulbs were changed and still did not work. Workers came quickly when called. June 29, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Needs an upgrade Overall stay was good. The bar and meal at the motel was excellent !! We booked this motel expecting a heated pool....it was not heated. We had an infant with us, that was why we wanted a heated pool. There was atleat 3 bus loads of teenagers staying the same time. Trying to have an infant sleep with kids running up and down the hallways screaming was not fun. I guess I expected more. June 4, 2013

They were incredibly noisy and kept us awake, then the next morning and through the afternoon, noisy children in the hallways. We were on the first floor, near a side exit, and the experience was most unfortunate. Be sure you do not book room 103 and, if possible, avoid spring break week or any other school week when loads of high schoolers (or middle schoolers) are visiting Williamsburg. April 4, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel Experience As I have always experienced with Holiday Inn, the staff is great, and overall value is indeed found with this hotel...My complaints would be lack of an inclusive breakfast and the hotel is in dire need of a make-over. Sure the hotel is old and yet still clean but I do believe IHG needs to make a decision as to dump this property or do some serious remodeling. With that said, the hotel was clean and certainly could stay there again if I had to, but with two other much newer Holiday Inns in the Williamsburg vicinity that I saw, I think I would opt for one of those until this one has a remodel. But as always, clean and comfortable so there :) April 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great and responsive staff We had a decent and memorable stay...had a couple of problems but all were resolved quickly and professionally. I booked an executive suite 1 month in advance but was informed upon checking in that none were available. The lady at the front desk capitulated by giving us a king room at a nice discount. Thanks! Then I had problems connecting to the Internet. That was promptly and professionally corrected. Thanks! Then we had a problem with the heat. Once again promptly fixed. And to give us a bit of excitement we even experienced a fire alarm. The staff responded quickly and the FD was on scene in less than 5 minutes. We were back in our rooms quickly. This hotel does need a little work and their was a lot of activity sprucing the place up as we stayed during Feb and there weren't a lot of occupants. Centrally located and convenient to all the sights. All in all a decent place. I would stay again. Thanks for taking good care of us and our little munchkin dogs. February 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall good The hotel is always kept up nicely, the front desk staff is always very pleasent and accomidating. The young lady the checked me in had dozens of people come up asking questions while she was checking people in, yet she was calm cool and collected. Kudos to her! I was there for a convention, it was pretty much a captive audience for 2 days, yet the dinning room and kitchen had terrible hours and a reduced menu of the most basic of things, chicken fingers, burgers and some kind of disgusting fish sticks. Really folks? You have a captive audience... Most of the convention goers ended up driving to get food. That a lot of lost dollars on the hotel's part. It doesn't take much to run the actual menu. The convention comes there twice a year, consider it next time around, but make sure you advertise it to the convention goers - you might be surprised February 9, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Experience We had reserved 3 non-smoking rooms for 2 nights. I had an email confirmation. In spite, we got all smoking rooms. Upon request at the front desk, we were able to get one non-smoking room. Room conditions were not that great. Bathrooms were just OK......no exhaust in the bathroom, broken tub, wall papers were coming off. Hotel does need a major renovation to meet Holiday Inn new standards!!! Just a night before we stayed at Holiday Inn Ocean side in VA Beach. What a beautiful hotel it was. Clean, right on the beach and the price was just right!!! Totally different experience with this hotel. I will never go back to this one and will not recommend it to any one. October 26, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Last Holiday Inn with rooms in town Typically stay at the Crown Plaza but was sold out. The location is good if you are going to Busch Gardens but the hotel itself needs a lot of touchup. Doors dinged up, wallpaper peeling off... smoking area by the pool was not kept clean. The standing ashtray was so full, it caught fire, I had to put it out with pool water. Tried to use the on site restaurant for a snack around 4pm but there were no signs indicating the time it was open, checked with the staff, they thought it was 4pm when I checked back again at 5pm, they were still waiting for the bar staff to get there so I was told it opens when 'they' show up. Walls very thin, heard the dog down the hall all day/night. Mgr didn't know the dog was there. Towel rack in bathroom fell off then the automated key slide on my door broke off. Overall dirty appearance,. would not stay here again. October 24, 2012

We left our room around eleven AM on Saturday, removed the privacy tag from our door, and spoke briefly with housekeeping ladies, who by the way were friendly and courteous. When we returned at approximately four PM, we discovered our room had not been serviced. We contacted the desk, and they told us that housekeeping was gone for the day. All we asked for at this point was for the towels to be replaced. We were told that someone would be right up, it was over an hour before new towels were brought to the room and the used ones removed. October 22, 2012
