Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Good room & reception; poor food Stayed here post-cruise for visit to Winchester. Reception staff friendly, helpful and professional. Gave useful information for our visit to nearby city. Room very comfortable though stuffy due to fixed window. Left bathroom light on (and thus extractor) to get air changed. In atrium, called for coffee twice before answer. Latte served with dirty spoon, milk jug for Americano had sticky handle. Evening meal began with descent down dirty stairs into restaurant. Not impressed with menu, so chose burger from bar menu. Waitresses seemed inexperienced. Both meals arrived with burgers pink inside. Head waiter apologised, saying that not all guests liked theirs well-done and took meals back to kitchen. They were returned minutes later, still pink inside but with a fresh serving of fries. On examining, we refused this and settled for a cheese and pickle sandwich which was excellent. At breakfast, we were welcomed by foreign-sounding waitress but it wasn't clear where we should sit or what was available for breakfast. There appeared to be no alternative to self-service buffet; no fried or poached eggs on offer, only scrambled. Coffee was good and plentiful, served at the table although the young waiter dipped the jug spout into each cup. While this prevented splashes, it ran the risk of passing infections from table to table. Foreign sounding waitress used a tray to collect used items from empty tables efficiently. Local juniors appeared to lack training and were less efficient, stacking dishes in front of guests and carrying individual items back to kitchen. The contrast between professional reception staff and poorly trained restaurant staff with inadequate understanding of hygiene was striking. July 27, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Winchester. Wifi? The hotel was everything we have come to expect of a Holiday Inn, which is why we always come back! It was clean, comfortable and the staff were polite and attentive. The only thing that could be improved on is the wi-fi provision. When so many other places can provide this, why do Holiday Inn still charge for it? It's not a major issue and wouldn't deter us from staying with Holiday Inn, but I am sure other people feel the same way. Other than that, our family enjoyed the stay and will look forward to returning. July 26, 2014

Staff make it ever more enjoyable..special thanks to James and Tom on reception and Brooke in the bar and restaurant....they always make you feel very welcome, offer a friendly smile whilst being totally professional ...thank you. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Misleading booking process Booked this accommodation on the basis of Double bed only to find on arrival that none available and twins only.Showed reception copy of internet booking which gave no indication of this.Staff quite pompous and patronising. Nothing we could do but won't be using IHG again despite being a shareholder. As an aside who made the decision as to the height of the wash basin??If you are 6ft plus fine but otherwise you had to stand on your tip toes to clean your teeth.....ridiculous. July 19, 2014
