Had never been to Winston Salem so I was unsure of location. Turned out this was an easy access to many of our activities. Staff was very friendly and helpful with directions. Comfortable accomodations and the price makes it a good value. Would highly recommend and plan to return. Would suggest to choose from menu instead of breakfast buffet.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by zwelch85 Needs a Remodel Bad!!!
This is my first time staying at a hotel in this area, and I always stay with IHG Hotel Brands. I was doing work about 30 mins from this site, and was working the night shift, so therefore I needed somewhere that I could relax and sleep during the day.
My stay started off with me checking in. The lady at the front desk was friendly, and the check in process went ok. I was not recognized for being a platinum member, and was offered no upgrades, etc. I went up to the room that I reserved and found that it did not have a microwave or fridge; and I found this to be an issue as I planned to be in the area for well over 3 weeks. I went back down to the desk and was told that none was available. After explaining that I was going to be at the hotel for 3+ weeks and needed a room with a fridge and microwave, and that if this could not be handled that I would just check out and go to another hotel. With that being said I guess some miracle happened and a Suite become available (only type of room with a fridge and microwave) The downfall to this is although I am a platinum member, and upgrades are supposed to be a privilege, I was otherwise told it would cost me an additional $20 a night for the hotel room.....I agreed due to the need and went on my way. When I got to the room, I was very astonished at the need for a remodel. The couch was worn out, their is a tube TV in the room still and the lighting in the room is horrible (very dark).
I went on with my stay and was ok with everything until I came in from work one night. I arrived at the hotel to find that hotel was packed, every parking spot taken, and the patrons were parking on the street, grass, fire lanes, etc. I drove around for 20 minutes before putting my brand new car into the muddy grass. When I made my way into the hotel I found the lobby beyond packed. What made me even more mad at this point was the fact that I was stopped at the front door to the hotel and was told I needed a ticket to enter (obviously some kind of paid program going on) I advised the man I was a guest and went on through. The place was extremely loud and the guest were all over the place. I was hoping that by the time I made it up to my room their would be some peace a quite, but was I wrong...due to the party on site being out of control, the patrons of the party were wondering the halls of the hotel and were very loud, needless to say, the one night I got off from work and was going to be able to sleep in I was kept up until around 4am due to the loud partying.
I understand hotels are in it for the money, but a simple notification on check in of the party that was planned would have been nice, it would not have scared me away, but it would have showed that the hotel cared about its guest.
I cut my 3-4 week stay with the hotel short due to their shortcomings a moved to another IHG hotel about 1 hour away from my work site. Although the travel is longer to work each day, at least the hotel I am now staying at is clean, quite, and much more modern.
I do not recommend anyone stay in this hotel if you are looking for modern day essentials and relaxation.

Highly recommend...stayed one night traveling through Winston-Salem. Room was pleasant and very clean. Front desk staff were plesant and ready to go the extra mile to make our stay a great stay.
Only con is we checked in around 8pm and out by 7am....little costly for the length of time we were actually in the room.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 A nice place to stay.
I was happy with my experience in this Holiday Inn. The room was comfortable and always kept clean. Plenty of towels in the bathroom. The food and service in the restaurant were good. They have a computer available for guest use in the business center and Wi-Fi throughout. The only problem I would mention is that the air conditioner in the room was fairly noisy when running.
Unless you need to be in the city, I would recommend this Holiday Inn.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by OCtheBear Friendly, attentive staff throughout!
Re-submitting this review as previous review gave names of staff which is apparently not acceptable. We were a party of 12 persons staying at this hotel for a family reunion. I cannot say enough about how friendly and accomodating the staff was from the front desk, restaurant and housekeeping staff. I needed assistance from management and the response was personal and prompt.
Our rooms were comfortable, very clean and the housekeeping staff managed to keep them that way during our stay. The kids loved the outdoor pool!
We had breakfast, for 12 people, each day in the hotel restaurant, and again the restaurant staff went above and beyond expectations, remembering our names and orders from previous days.
All in all the family reunion was a huge success, due in no small part to our stay at this Holiday Inn! I wish I could give personal credit to those very special employees at this property, but that's not allowable in this review.

I traveled with my son and although I am the Mom the reservation somehow was kept under Dad's name. Anyhoo - upon our arrival the lobby and our room were very lovely - recently renovated. However the lack of security was alarming. Two exterior doors that bring you to the first floor had no locks and/or they were broken. Anyone could walk in from the streets - it appears that these issues are ongoing according to previous reviews. We stayed on the first floor and felt completely exposed - my 16yr old son called it 'sketchy' I felt vulnerable and couldn't have restful sleep. This was the worst offense especially after alerting the staff every day of our three day stay. No one seemed to have called a locksmith. Perhaps the employees are not empowered by management to do so. It left me believing that guest safety is not a priority at this Holiday Inn.
The first evening our TV didn't work, so I used the phone in our room to call the front desk and IT didn't work! I called from my cell phone and on the third try someone picked up and said they would send someone. We waited 30 minutes then left for dinner. Upon our return the TV was on and working but the bedside phone remained inoperable our entire stay.
When we tried to check out very early on Sunday (4: 15am) there was no one at the front desk. No one in the offices. No one in the kitchen...it was creepy. There was a walkie-talkie at the desk and we even tried locating someone with that! I phoned the 800# spoke to a very helpful reservation specialist, Raven, and they called the front desk which of course went unanswered because THERE WAS NO ONE THERE! We found the front desk person by searching the floors 40 minutes later - apparently he was the only employee in the entire hotel! i felt badly for him, it seemed there were employees who called out and he was alone. Coupled with the lack of security at the entrance points to the hotel I DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING AT THIS LOCATION!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by EdConsult Better on my first visit in November 2012
I was there working with the WSFC schools in June 2013 arriving thinking it would an equally good stay as my visit in November 2012. Huge disappointment.
1: Despite the fact my confirmation email said I would receive complimentary breakfast each morning, I had to "beg" for the tickets on check-in and each day until I was told on my last night that the dining room would be closed for renovations the following morning.
2: The waitress in the dining room (during breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday morning) was unprofessional. She openly complained about a tip another customer left, called out to me across the room asking if I wanted coffee (Tuesday) and was clearly upset that I sat in a particular section (Monday). She spent more time talking with the cook instead of attending to customers. The waitresses in November were excellent.
3: In November there were evening drinks made complimentary and cookies in the lobby each afternoon. This time, there was nothing.
4: When I called to make reservations I was put on hold by the hotel staff for over 12 minutes. I hung up, called back, and was put on hold for 10 minutes. I hung up, called back, and when someone answered told them about being on hold so long, no apology, but a "we just had a big group come in so I will transfer you to reservations" and then I ended up on an 800 line that knew nothing about the state rate agreement with the schools. That had to be corrected when I arrived.
5: When I arrived, I waited for about 12 minutes on someone being checked in despite 2 other people behind the counter.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TVGuy Great Room To Enjoy
Bed and pillows are comfortable, TV gets mucho cable channels, desk and chair are excellent for computer work, internet is fast, room lighting is adequate, bathroom is clean and everything works, shower has a lot of water pressure, but no microfridge in the room to keep my medicine cool.
Breakfast is a very good buffet that also offers eggs cooked to order. Staff works hard to make the buffet fresh all of the time. The dining room is immaculate.
Housekeeping does an excellent job with keeping the room clean and the bed looking nice. However, they love keeping everything orderly which includes the alarm clock that is always facing forward on the night stand and not at you in bed. When 5 am comes you have no desire to get out of bed to see the time.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TVGuy Great room with plenty of space
Bed was comfortable as was the entire room. Great desk to work on with computer. Internet was fast. Bathroom was clean and every thing worked. Ice machine on sixth floor was inoperative. Elevator signs on some floors had been vandalized and have not been repaired in years. First floor exterior door did not lock and security of entire hotel was open to whomever decided to walk in. Front desk new employee was left alone to figure out how to check me in and it took forever. Breakfast was great and well stocked. Hostess (and Host) were friendly and helpful. Overall excellent experience.

I have had more pleasurable stays at other properties. This one started out that way. My experience changed after a few mishaps and a major one when I nor the staff was able to enter my room. After a long two and half hours I was finally in and move to another room though too late for my function that night. The staff did their best to accommodate in light of everything. Needless to say I doubt I will visit that particular location again but I am open to continue using Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Travelers5757 Poor Weekend Timing
We have stayed at this location on a number of occasions. Overall, we have found the service and stay to be very good. During a recent weekend where the hotel was unusually busy we noted a real strain on the hotel staff that impacted our stay. The challanges included a lack of coffee and tea at both the Priority Level as well as in the vicinity of the front desk. We had requested a second set of bath towels to be delivered to our room and the front desk handed us towels from the gym. Lastly, we were double billed for our stay and when I called the front desk from home to report the issue, I was quickly dismissed and hung up on. I had to follow-up with the hotel manager directly to get resolution but never got an apology for their clerical error. I hope this was a one-off occasion.

I stayed at this location for a week, during my stay the room was ok and 99.9 percent of the staff was friendly, however the lady that worked in the breakfast area was very unfriendly. I arrived at the breakfast area at 6 am and there wasn't any one around. I walked over and took a milk and banana. As I left the area, I placed my coupon on the counter. As I got close to the door to leave, the lady walking from the elevator area made the comment that Milk wasn't free. I explained that I left my coupon on the counter for her and left the hotel. The next 4 days I did the exact same thing and got the same response every day. I would assume that since I was wearing my work uniform every day and looked exactly the same that she would realize I was a guest. But apparently not. Maybe she expected a tip for a 35 cent banana and a 50 cent milk. The following week I stayed at a different hotel that did not have coupons for breakfast. And was very satisfied with my stay. I travel every week for work and stay at lots at Holliday Inns. I'm generally very happy with the quality of this establishment and there are many great employees. I will not return to this location in Winston Salem.

My stay at this hotel started with a 3 night reservation that turned into a 6 night stay while my daughter was in the hospital for surgery. The staff were wonderful and worked with my as I had to extend my stay each day based on the doctors keeping her longer than we first thought. The beds are extremely comfortable. I have health problems and most hotel beds make me wake up in pain but not at this hotel. All in all, it was a wonderful, comfortable and safe home away from home!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by CindyT Almost Superb....
The hotel itself was extremely nice. Room very comfortable (king suite), and staff very friendly and helpful.
I do have a couple of complaints, though. The restaurant in the hotel is open for breakfast and dinner only. Not for lunch. I guess that if you consider most guests go out during the day, and don't stay in the hotel the whole time, it may not be cost effective to be open for lunch. However, I was there for a conference in the hotel, the second one I've attended. The last one I went to, they offered a "box lunch" from the restaurant during the conference, which was convenient for a lot of us attending. The hotel may not have any say over how the restaurant operates, but just an observation.
The hotel offers a complimentary drink at the bar on day of arrival which was nice. I had a glass of Merlot wine. Then ordered dinner at the bar, along with another glass of Merlot, for which I was charged a whopping $8! Pretty steep for a glass of wine!
But I must say that my room was very comfortable, hotel very clean, and staff wonderful. Definately will stay there again!
