Hotel was acceptable for overnight stay. Hotel needs major upgrades. Carpets through out hotel are dirty and smell of smoke even though the room/floor is non smoking. Bathroom small and out dated. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Good place to stay if passing through town.

My four sons and I stayed here over the Veteran's Day weekend, when every single room in the hotel was booked. This hotel was not our first choice—I'm a member of a competitor chain, but the hotel we stayed at before (which my kids loved) was completely booked. I chose this Holiday Inn because it was close to the downtown area (only 18 miles away) and, unlike other hotels, they didn't bump up the room rate for Veteran's Day
Knowing that the hotel would be crowded, I was expecting the worst and prepared my sons for noisy nights and poor service, but none of that turned out to be the case. The Holiday Innl staff was completely present and pleasant, from the front desk to the cheerful server in the restaurant, to the housekeeping person keeping the pool area straightened up. The swimming pool was very crowded in the early evening, but there were other things to do in the Fundome, including ping-pong for just 25¢ and air hockey. Later in the evening, when the younger kids went to bed, the pool cleared out and my kids were able to swim and play. Around that time, a large group of teenagers, there for a leadership convention, returned from dinner and the hallways got a little noisy. I thought we'd be able to hear the teens socializing throughout the night, but none of us heard a thing and slept soundly. Great sound-proofing!
The beds here are comfortable -- four pillows per queen! And even the sleeper chair was fine, according to my son. Although there were five of us in the room at times, we didn't feel too crowded. Wi-fi worked great, so the boys were happy! And I was overjoyed by the restaurant's deal of the century: with one adult meal, up to four kids eat free! Sure worked for this single mom!
Here's the last word of praise for the hotel -- on our last day there, I had planned to go to the St. Louis Science Center for a few hours before driving back to Chicago. The boys unanimously voted to skip the science center and stay at the hotel to swim and play in the Fundome until check out time!
