Our stay was good overall and represented reasonable value.
However ,the reception staff were a bit abrupt and not particularly helpful. There was no indication from them about the stairs to the room ( no lift as far as we could see ) and no offer to help us with our luggage -we saw a number of guests struggling up the stairs.
Also it was meant to be a non smoking room although my wife said she could smell cigarette smoke- the ground outside our room was littered with cigarette butts which does not create a good impression.
Finally we do not believe you should add service to the restaurant bill automaically. Service should be at the discretion of the customer. We asked for it to be removed but rewarded our indivdual waiter with a cash tip in recognition of his good service

Hotel excellent in all respects other than tardy service.
Have now stayed on three occasions and this is a combined review of all three stays.
Not necessarily a reflection on the staff themselves, more a lack of them.
On one occasion, I tried for 20 minutes calling reception, then the restaurant, then the operator... all to no avail. ...(Basically anybody that might answer the phone). No joy, so had to walk a long way back to reception, waiting a further 10 minutes, before being able to ask for a remote control for TV.
When I inquired to as whether or not there was a problem with receptions phone, the lady simply said - I was with attending to a guest. Personally, you should either have more staff available or the courtesy to politely acknowledge a call and simply state that you shall call back after the guest(s) have been attended to.
On another occasion, I had to order room service in person at the restaurant as no one would answer the phone and then had to wait for 30 minutes to order a drink later in the evening as only one person was available to tend to a busy bar.
I have stayed multiple times now, and had the same service/response issues each time, meaning that although an IHG platinum member - I would now rather stay at another competitor hotel within the area.

We stayed here for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The pancake maker was the icing on the cake. It's a beautiful building. I'm annoyed that I didn't make use of the spa. The restaurant opened a bit too late in the evening (6.30) as we have a 3 year old and so we had to go elsewhere but that's the only negative. There are lots of places to eat nearby so it's hardly a negative really.
