Holiday Inn Carlsbad is a winner
By Seandor
I like this hotel...my wife and I were in town for a wedding at Camp Pendelton...we did not feel like driving back home late after the wedding, so we booked a room. The room was super clean and [More] modern. It had a nice view of the Palomar Airport runway and surrounding hills. This hotel was clean and quiet. It was located in what I would consider a "Remote" feeling part of town...but by no stretch of the imagination is it isolated. You are only 5 minutes away from grocery stores, sandwich shops and coffee houses. My wife and I were enjoying our stay so much that we decided to stay an additional night and head to work a bit later the following morning...It's a great hotel at a reasonable price with plenty of amenities...the hotel staff is friendly and helpful...you will not regret your stay here. Everything made simple and easy

Felt like we had the place to ourselves - even though I know that wasn't the case. Thanks for a great time. Took the family to legoland - the hotel felt like it was just down the road. [Less]

Good place, newly redone, close to the airport in Carlsbad and close to a grocery store. Super friendly hotel service. The rooms are modern and comfortable. [Less]
dog fees and shower
By Flowerhill55
I was very please with our room overall. The shower needs a proper door, as you have to awkwardly reach in the shower to turn it on and therefore get wet in the process. The water splashes out onto [More] the floor while you shower. Also, the pet deposit of $75.00 is absurd. My tiny dog, does not shed, nor cause any problems when we stay in hotels. If she were to cause any problem or destroy anything in the room, I would be happy to pay for the damage. A $75.00 non-refundable deposit is obscene. Fortunately, my son was able to take my dog so I did not have to incur the extra expense of having her stay with us in the hotel. I've stayed at many hotels across the country and try to stay away from those that charge fees such as the Holiday Inn. I would rather stay at motel that is not as plush as a Holiday Inn, but welcomes dogs and does not charge non-refundable fees than stay at a nicer hotel that charges extra for dogs. Dogs are generally better customers than people. Plus they don't steal! [Less]
Very nice stay ...
By kidware
One of the nicest Holiday Inn Express stays ever. Even with ongoing renovation, the staff and workers kept noise at a minimum - our twin grandsons could nap through the work. Our suite was very roomy [More] and well appointed. Only complaint - we hit San Diego during a cold spell and the only source of heat was in the dining area - if the bedroom door was closed, no heat could reach that area. [Less]
Few bumps along the way
By vanillagorilla80
The recent room remodel is fantastic - great modern coastal feel. A few nice details I appreciated were soft close drawers on the dresser/side tables, bedside lights with two power outlets and USB [More] (2A output too!), and a real freezer. The prep on the room post remodel left a bit to be desired. My first room was not properly cleaned - I found a construction blade along with thick layers of construction dust on the wall, window, and trim. I was graciously given another room which was fine aside from finding the fridge and microwave weren't plugged in - in fact the cords were still cable tied from the factory. Fortunately these kinks are temporary. Aside from some short term issues, definitely looking forward to the rest of the remodel being complete! [Less]
Large room and large breakfast
By California Girl 100
My two-night stay was what I expected. And that was good. The room with the two queen beds was quite large. The bathroom area, on the other hand, was pretty cramped. But you live with it -- no big [More] deal. I have one issue with the electrical outlets that are part of the lamps on the desk and the nightstand. While that's a great idea, the slots are way too big. The prongs at the end of a cord do not make contact. They just slip right out. So I ended up using a wall outlet instead. Finally, the breakfast was great. I want a healthy breakfast without grease, butter or a lot of sugar. I was very happy with the options for fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, bagels and the non-sugared plain oatmeal. What made this perfect is that you had a choice of actual non-fat yogurt and non-fat milk -- not just low-fat or reduced fat. Yay! There's only one negative. The coffee was pretty awful. I usually drink decaf and the hotel's was so acidic. It tasted as if it had been sitting for hours, even early in the morning, when I knew it was fresh. I have no idea what brand of coffee they use. They should try decaf from either Peet's or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Even Starbucks' decaf would be better, though it's not nearly as good as Peet's or CBTL. Both have very little acid and a lot of rich coffee flavor in their decaf. [Less]

Great value in a good location. Exceeded my expectations. [Less]
Great place to stay
By Cat lover 179
Clean and the staff was friendly. The hotel is close to the beach and lots of restaurants near the beach. The little Mexican restaurant next door was really good and cheap. They are open 24 hours. [Less]
