Featured Ames Hotels

Check into our Holiday Inn Express® hotels in Ames, Iowa, to enjoy warm Midwestern hospitality. You'll soon be exploring the diverse museums at Iowa State University and cheering for the home team with the students in Campustown sports bars.

Relax and enjoy the vibrant college-town atmosphere that surrounds our Ames hotels. Wander the Iowa State University campus, lingering at Reiman Gardens or popping into the college's superb museums. Rural Midwestern farm history comes to life in paintings by Iowan Grant Wood at the Brunnier Art Museum and at the 1860 Farm House Museum. The first structure on what would one day become Ames' ISU campus, the Farm House displays multicolored quilts alongside period furniture and kitchenware. On game days, cardinal-and-gold-clad Cyclones fans gather for ISU football tailgate parties around Jack Trice Stadium.

Visit the Ames Downtown Farmers' Market year-round for a quick snack or picnic fixings. Stock up on locally raised strawberries and pears as well as artisanal cheeses and bread. Our hotels in Ames are near downtown restaurants, where moderately priced menus often include weekly specials. Dine on generous plates of locally raised, char-grilled beefsteaks and pork chops, or fill up on hickory-smoked barbecued ribs and pulled-pork sandwiches at local mainstay Hickory Park. Inexpensive sports bars are the rule in Campustown, near the university and our Ames hotels. ISU students gather here to watch Big-12 basketball on big-screen TVs over hearty burgers and icy beer.

Stay at our Holiday Inn Express hotels in Ames in any season. In spring, 20,000 tulips and daffodils brighten the grounds of Reiman Gardens; in summer, purple coneflowers take their place, followed in autumn by brilliant crimson burning bushes.

We were there to stay because our daughter had a Dance comp that weekend, everything was very clean and updated and the rooms were clean the bed was very comfortable and the towels were very nice. [More] The only complaint we may have is that there was way to much Chlorine in the pool and our girls were only able to swim for a short time. But overall it was a great staty. [Less]

The hotel is very clean and close to the Iowa State campus. The staff is very friendly and we had a minor issue with our air conditioning that they took care of immediately. We will definitely stay [More] here again. [Less]
A really nice place full of really nice people
By ScrappyCy
Jarret was the manager i saw the most. He and his staff were just outstanding in the friendliness department. There was always a greeting. Coffee pots and creamers were always available. A member of [More] the staff even stopped by our large meeting room before he left at the end of his shift to see if he could do anything for us before he left. Our waitress was such a sweetheart and our housekeeper took the time to leave us a thank you note for the one we left for her.. We had booked two rooms for the 4 members of our group and we all had sweet chocolate greetings for us in our rooms... a really nice little touch.. My one and only suggestion would be having step in showers available in some rooms. I know people who love to enjoy the luxury of a bath when they are staying at a hotel, but ,as I get older, I find I appreciate the ease of a step in shower.. [Less]
We only have 1 cook.
By desilu12
We went to the restaurant for dinner, but we were greeted in the totally empty diner by a waitress who told us "We only have one cook, so if all 6 of you want to order please understand it will take [More] a lot of time". This is the only time any of us ever heard anything like this at a Holiday Inn, and this will hopefully be the most ridiculous comment by any staff member anywhere that we ever hear. Based on her evaluation of her cook's abilities, we felt eating here would be a poor decision, so we had to change our plan, and dine elsewhere. Other than this one blemish it was a good stay, but I will remember this always.. [Less]
