The hotel staff was very friendly. The amenity in the hotel is very good by hotel standard. The room carpet appeared to be very dark and gave an impression of decent cleanliness. Saw a small beetle [More] crawling on the carpet at one point. The breakfast food selections and quality are ok. Warm food none the less. I would still recommend staying at this hotel. [Less]

Had some difficulty when calling both front desk and room service staff, but the hotel is very nice, and very close to the location of the event at the Suburban Showplace. The shuttle is very [More] convenient, though we were disappointed that it didn't run as late this year as it has in the past. Can You Love an Airport Hotel Too Much?

My husband and I live about 55 minutes north of DTW. Primarily due to work, both of us travel frequently, and our airport parking is a business expense/write-off. During the holiday season last year [More] (2015), we decided to stay at the Romulus Holiday Inn because we had an early flight, had to pay for our own parking, and I think we had extra Reward Club points. I'm going to pause here to say: If you are not a Reward Club member, you should be. We were thrilled to find the following at HI, Romulus: *The fantastic rate/package for airport parking, Park and Ride *Simple parking/shuttle service--the drivers are always pleasant and accommodating *Indoor pool with hot tub *Comfortable beds you do not want to leave, plenty of towels, fantastic pillows *Service that was genuinely all about the patron--Thank you, Shania and Courtney! They are fantastic! *A restaurant that is relaxed, inviting,with many options ...and full bar :) *A welcoming ambience that is topped off with an attractive fireplace in the lobby *....and much more Since that stay, we now look for reasons to stay at this Holiday Inn. If you are a Rewards Club member, when it is possible the front desk staff never makes a big deal about an early check in or late check out. I find that somewhat unusual even in my other favorite IHG hotels. When you get so much more than you expect from an airport hotel, you want to tell everyone about it. My husband says that I like to use hotel as a verb. We stay in many. Some are "intermediate" hotels and some are luxury hotels. We work hard and always look for the best value as we are working class people. When you stay in a commonly thought of "middle of the road" hotel, yet feel like you're at a resort, that is something to write about so everyone can know. Obviously, all of my experiences at the hotel have been exceptional. I'm in the restaurant at this moment. I feel refreshed after a wonderful sleep. I am unhurried because of a late check out. I had a conference call around the time of check-out. I asked, and Shania made it happen. I was only about 15 minutes late, but I left housekeeping a little tip for the inconvenience. Please understand that unless you are a Rewards Club member and the hotel is not exceptionally busy, most consider it to be discourteous to ask for, or expect an early check-in or late check-out. Housekeeping wants to get in your room and do their jobs. That's the way it should be. When I am late, I am acutely aware that I may be inconveniencing someone. The two previous nights, I stayed at an IHG property in Nashville, TN. Even though I am a loyal Rewards Club member (can't you tell?) as is my husband (we have with a separate accounts), I felt like I was just another person that HAD to be taken care of during someone's work shift. For example, we valet parked, but our valet couldn't drive a stick shift. Whaaaat? Yes. Essentially we parked our own car and twice walked to the car ourselves rather than waiting for the valet to bring it to us because we had an event to attend. It was very busy as Vanderbilt's graduation was last weekend and other big events were happening in the city. That is the norm for Nashville (my hometown) now. I understand that. Yet, after waiting for 15 minutes and understanding that at least one of the drivers on duty couldn't drive a stick shift, we found our own car and used another set of keys. Why hire a valet who cannot drive all types of cars? This probably belongs in a separate review, but I want to contrast the difference between REAL and genuine costumer service and inadequate service. After politely discussing the valet situation with a front desk member on Saturday, we were assured that we would have the valet parking charges taken off of our bill ($24 per night), given 1000 points, and free breakfast coupons. That was great! Well done! The first person I spoke to agreed that the valet situation was lacking at best. When I reviewed the bill the morning we checked out, the valet charges had not taken off. I called the front desk, was put on hold twice for quite a while, and found the front desk "team member" to be contentious. She said there was no manager on the property and there wouldn't be one until Monday. Okay. Enough. If you ever have the opportunity to stay at the Airport-Romulus Holiday Inn, do it! Tell Courtney and Shania that the lady with a Southern accent said, "Have a wonderful day and keep up the great work!" [Less]
