The room was the coldest we have ever had to occupy. The heating was inadequate and insufficient bedding to get warm at night. Due to the position of the room there was a lot of coming and going from the other guests. Food was average. Breakfast taken at 9.30 am with only warm food available and lots of empty dishes waiting to be filled. Many tables had dirty plates waiting to be cleared. The staff were excellent but it was obvious there was insufficient personnel to cope.

The best thing about this stay was the room - it seemed to have a new bed in it and I had an amazing sleep during a very busy work trip. The room was also very quiet and was well insulated from the road outside. However, the curtains seemed to be too small for the window and were far from 'blackout' curtains - the room became very bright very early in the morning even with the curtains fully drawn.
The service during this stay overall was very disappointing. One member of staff was very kind and printed out some work documents I had left at home - this was a great help and I was very grateful. However, every other member of staff was uniformly miserable and unsmiling. When I checked in the member of staff didn't smile or even say hello. All they said was, "Surname?"
Despite being alone in the bar on an early Saturday evening, it took over 5 minutes to be served because one member of staff shut himself in the office whenever he finished serving someone and a second member of staff spent his shift standing outside of the entrance playing on his phone and smoking. Neither seemed bothered about this, although they did offer a basic "sorry for the wait". The attitude of the second member of staff was very poor. The bar had been busy and there were a lot of dirty glasses on tables in the area. Instead of clearing this up, he returned outside to smoke. At one point he came into the dining area and sat at a clean table and played on his phone for over 20 minutes. In full uniform and on duty this was totally unacceptable and gave a low impression. I wanted a second glass of wine but he said they had no clean glasses so I'd have to reuse my first glass - this was because the staff on duty ignored all of the dirty glasses around the bar area.
I wanted to mention this at checkout but that member of staff had a similar attitude - no smile, no warmth and they didn't ask how my stay was. They simply said, "You have nothing to pay." Definitely not a welcoming IHG experience, I have asked my employer to avoid this property in future.
