We stayed at this hotel 3 years ago. Although the rooms are small, we liked the convenient location and are IHG Priority Club members, so we try to stay loyal to the chain.
We checked in on Sunday and found the front desk folks very helpful and personable. We were there for 3 nights. The breakfast area was fine - plenty of food for the number of guests who were there, and a nice variety.
We were at Universal all day Monday, and were surprised to find that when our room was cleaned, two used washcloths (which we had used that morning) were left in the shower.
We were also at Universal on Tuesday and returned to the hotel after 4:00 PM to find that our room had not yet been cleaned. The housekeeper was next door, and we asked her to have the room done as soon as possible, since we were done our activities for the day and wanted to rest and prepare for our trip home. She spoke very little English, and seemed surprised that we were requesting to have our room cleaned. (It was an odd conversation.)
We went down to the lobby to log into their computers, and mentioned politely to the front desk person that our room wasn't cleaned yet. Her response was, "We had a 2-hour meeting today and things are behind schedule." We can understand "behind schedule" - but after 4:00 PM and the rooms weren't done? After killing time in the lobby for 30 minutes or so, we asked her if she could check to see if the room was done. She paged the housekeeping staff a couple of times, and no one responded. My husband went to the room to check; otherwise, we'd have had no way of knowing it was done.
When my husband mentioned it to the gentleman at the desk when we checked out the next day, he seemed genuinely surprised and apologized and said, "That should never happen."
Well, it will definitely never happen to us again. Sorry.

This hotel is super kid friendly! The staff is extra nice and I felt welcomed upon stepping through the automatic doors. We only stay at this hotel when we are in Orlando! #bestever

Had a couple of issues upon check-in, but as usual everything was fixed our stay was great! Had no hot water, but was fixed by the time we returned from dinner. Hotel was sold out for Fl classic weekend, but didn't feel like it. Quiet and comfortable as usual. We use this hotel whenever we travel to Orlando and are never disappointed!

WE JUST RELAXED ALL WEEKEND 3 DAYS WE HAD FAMILY COME OVER TO VISIT WE HAD AT LEAST 12 PEOPLE IN THE ROOM JUST HANGING OUT THE STAFF WAS GREAT. POOL WAS HEATED PLENTY OF TOWELS. GREAT BREAKFAST. PARKS AND RESTAURANTS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE RARELY USED THE CAR.

The room was lacking in some amenities that I've come to expect from a Holiday Inn Express, like a fridge and bathtub. The bathroom and the room as a whole were a bit small, but that's okay if you're going to spend your time at Universal. The bus to Universal is free with several departure times, which saved us quite a bit on parking. Overall, I would recommend if visiting Universal.

Great Location. Great breakfast. I would like more options for the departure and arrival of the shuttles to the parks.

I have had the pleasure of being a Rewards member for many years. I have stayed in many places throughout the United States, and have always received excellent service. That being said, I must say that the treatment I received from this property made me feel like I was the most important person to walk through the door. In addition, in observation, I saw they treated each person equally well.
When I arrived in Orlando, the taxi company dropped me off at the Holiday Inn and not the Holiday Inn Express. I went in and asked for my room. The woman looked rather distressed. She then went on to tell me that "once again, the cab took me to the wrong hotel"...apparently this happens frequently. So, I walked to the correct property. When I arrived I was hot and sweaty. Ruthie greeted me with a killer smile and a feeling of calm. She got me set up in a King Suite and gave me a bottle of water to cool off with. After I got in my room, she called to make sure that the accommodations would work and offered to give me information for local eateries that would deliver. I thought WOW! OK.
Throughout my stay, when I walked in, I was greeted by the front desk folks Kristina and Doris. That was a nice touch. On my last night, I was having a rough time getting in. Lucas, the night auditor assisted getting me in the hotel and made sure I had everything I needed for a good night sleep including a wake-up call. In addition, that same day, Ruthie made sure that I had my cab set up for the next morning. Everything came off without a hitch.
All I can say is this, this property exemplifies Customer Service in its highest form. The cab was waiting for me to transport to the venue and airport. It's all the little things, the going the extra mile that sets them apart. I hope that others will consider this property when traveling and that the Corporation would consider awarding this property for the behaviors they exhibit.
