I have stayed at some really nice Holiday Inn Express hotels before but was very disappointed at this one in Shanghai.
I drove a rental car to the hotel and found parking was a big problem. There was no access from the underground garage to the ground, let alone direct access to the hotel. The only way to get out of there was to walk on the ramp for the car. It seems the hotel has a tension with its neighboring office building in terms of parking and the security guard of the office building were not quite friendly to hotel guests. The hotel room was very cold at night. The heat function of the "air condition" did not blow any warm air at all. Breakfast was horrible and crowded. I will not stay at this facility again.
The shower sprinkler was broken and could not stay up on the stand so I had to hold the sprinkler during my shower. On the first day, I left the sprinkler on the floor hoping room service people would find it and have an engineer fix it. However, the next morning, I found the sprinkler was forced into a slot behind a pole so it did not fall. That means the room service person found the problem but did nothing to fix it.
The surrounding area of the hotel was safe but quite run down. Almost every shop was closed, except a convenient store and in the store most of the shelves were empty at night.
