Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bad start to an overall good stay On arrival was allocated a room that was still being serviced at 16:25, went for a drink to kill the 10 minutes waiting.Slow bar service as everyone was concentrated at the reception. Was told the issue would be taken up with housekeeping, consider this more a management and communication issue than a housekeeping problem. Also had arranged on arrival day late check out to sleep late and therefore put the 'do not disturb' sign outside. That did not stop housekeeping from knocking at the door twice and trying to open the door at 09:15. Had similar experience at other places where outsourced cleaning staff is cleaning rooms in accord and the customer service suffers. Sure such inconveniences can be avoided with proper communication and training. Modern (new) hotel ideal for a short stay to attend one or more events at the nearby Ziggo Dome, Heineken Music Hall,Ajax Stadium, etc. Also ok If one combines that with a visit to A'dam city via the Metro & NS station Bijlmer Arena, 5 minute walk. 15-20 minutes ride on Metro line 54 to the city center. On arrival at the station did not see any sign for the Hotel, for those without smart phone walk out of station where the buses stop into the side street behind the Heineken Music Hall, walked past the Vanzz Restaurant, if you are at the right spot you will see the Holiday Inn Express at the end of the street on the left. While the rooms are in line with the standard for the newer Express hotels, including relatively big bath room and great shower. The room we had appeared bigger, may be due to the roundish window side.. Without a stick it is a bit difficult to close the main curtain in the round window. TV from the ceiling and free WiFi without hassle or password is great , regretfully WiFi is a bit slow at times. Apart from the two above mentioned issues the staff in all areas was very friendly and helpful, making it over all a pleasant stay. While the breakfast room looks a bit clinical it is practical, the breakfast is basic but good if one considers that it is included in a fairly competitive room price. The staff here worked hard and efficient to keep the supply up and the tables clean. Hot tip, If there is a queue for the coffee and juices in the front of the room - there is a 2nd serving area in the back of the breakfast room. The bar and vending area on the 2nd floor covers also all the basic needs. Regretfully there is no bottle opener in the room like in other places where there is normally a fixed one by the coffee & tea area or in the bathroom, so you have to open the bottle downstairs or bring your own. Overall for this class of hotel it is a great place to stay with a good price service ratio.. Easy accessible by car or public transport, ideally located for event visitors and business people visiting one of the many offices nearby. If by car I most probably would utilise the hotel parking, despite the price. 15 November 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excelent starting point to explore Amsterdam Stay 2 nights in a great room due to upgrade (**14). Staff is very helpfull with info how to go to city center, beds/pillows are very good (with the new IHG standards it is a plus), breakfast is realy Dutch but everything is there. Close to hotel there are several restaurants and bars/lounges Will come back again (already booked) 13 November 2014
