I usually have very pleasant stays at Holiday Inn Express hotels. However, I have stayed at this hotel twice in 3 short weeks and am sad to say that this just property doesn't care.
Checking in began by being completely ignored by the 4 staff members at the front desk who were too busy staring at computer screens to assist. The agent who did finally assist us couldn't be bothered to check for a room with a bathtub as we had requested when we booked the room (as Gold members).
The room itself was clean, but it had a very unpleasant smell. We would have opened a window, but the Beijing smog was hovering near an all time high, so we chose the slightly healthier but smelly air inside.
The biggest problem, however, would come during the night. I had set the thermostat to a comfortable 23C, but by the time we went to bed the room was at a very warm 26C. I turned off the heating system and went to bed. At about 2am, the temperature was 28C and by 4:30am it was 29C. Again, if the air outside wasn't a carpet of smog we may have opened the window. I maybe had 1/2 a night's sleep while sweltering in the room.
When I mentioned that heating problem to the front desk, they offered no apology and said "maybe there was a problem." I asked why it was so warm during the night and was told, "other people prefer it warmer."
The real problem I had was choosing a middling hotel that just doesn't care about its guests.
