Downtown Calgary recently experienced a major power outage due to an underground electical fire. Our apartment building as well as approximately 100 other building were without power or water for 5 days.
As a result we were forced to vacate our apartment Sunday afternoon and find accomodations elsewhere. The Holiday Inn is only 2 blocks from home so we decided to give it a try, not expecting too much due to the obvious unexpected demand on rooms and the fact that it was a long weekend.
When we arrived we were not only provided with a room but given a significant discount due to the situation. We could not have been happier.
The check in and check out staff were both friendly, helpful and professional.
I would highly recommend this property for either business or leisure travellers.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MetalJibbies great place to stay
I was in Calgary attending a conference. The convention center was 10 blocks away. At first this bothered me. But the comfort and ease of using this hotel made everything fine. Friendly and helpful staff. VERY comfortable bed. Good (and FREE) wireless internet. Could have used an in-room safe but maybe that's just me
The hotel is in the free-ride zone of downtown Calgary, so in the morning I could catch the train (stop RIGHT behind the building) and be at the conference in minutes. I'd walk back in the afternoons/evenings and never felt unsafe doing so.

Location is walkable to most of downtown Calgary. Also close to a good running outdoor running circuit along the Bow River. The only negative for my taste was the mattress was a little soft.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by kag2 Convenient Location, but Noisy Neighbours
Always happy to stay at HIE and the location was convenient. I knew that being downtown, things might be noisy, but did not count on the train horn, nor the 12:30 to 2:00 AM altercation in an adjacent room that ended with the police being called. I liked everything about this location other than that.

The Holiday Inn Express in downtown Calgary is a perfect location to stay when visiting Calgary. It is perfectly located in the downtown core and allows easy access to local amenities, dining and night life. The rooms are great. The breakfast is very good. The staff are professional and friendly.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Good friendly hotel
Good, comfortable stay. Very friendly and welcoming check in staff. Reasonable location just on the edge of downtown and only a short walk from restaurants and bars although I would avoid those in the immediate vicinity.
