Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by They will not answer the phone My wife rang me 3 times on 3 seperate nights in the hotel. On two of the times the hotel answered the phone with an answering machine ( so course she was paying for call) then the operator refused to answer the phone. After a few minutes my wife was cut off. I expect the phone to be answered in a timely manner from a Holiday Inn 30 June 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Found the experience poor. We ate the evening we arrived. The food was at very best mediocre. Cannelloni was microwaved badly. Crisp on top and flat as pancakes. A number of the salad leaves were not fresh- basically rotten. They at least should not have been included. The fish coating was hard and the pie was poor. At least if we had been able to microwave our own it would have been in a better condition. By the way you need to ensure customer ordering a gin and tonic are aware that slimline tonic is automatically provided even when not requested. Spoilt the drink. Breakfast sufficed but there is a lack of space to accommodate the number of people requiring breakfast. In addition a choice of yogurt would have been good - fudge is not to everyone's taste. The worst part of the visit came next. While waiting for the lift to come the receptionist shouted to us 'you'll have to use the stairs as the lift is being used to bring down your luggage' . Wrong we were not part of the coach party and no apology. This meant my 84 year old father had to climb stairs to the 2nd floor and his ability to walk is impaired. Filling the lift with luggage took at least 20 minutes so he had to come down the stairs again #we waited some time but had to leave and we were also late in arriving at our destination due to extra time taken#. Surely, at the very least some sort of indication that the lift would be out of commission for this time should be in place so that guest could work around it if necessary. I am still deeply annoyed at this and this has probably been exacerbated by the extremely insincere single word apology when I complained at the desk. A dismissive 'Sorry' really is not adequate. I suppose I had considered that the lift was for guest use. Then when checking out despite handing in both key cards I was asked if everyone had checked out - to be told it was in case someone needed into the room. I am perfectly capable of understanding that I should not hand in the card if someone needs back in. Poor 20 June 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by great staff, shame about the noise and lack of sleep The hotel staff were great and it is a shame our stay turned out the way it did. I heard the snoring from the room next door and a coach or lorry in the car park very early in the morning. The room was clean although the bathroom needed a spruce. The decor is dated, but this is not the worst place i have stayed. 16 June 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great for our short stay attending a wedding at the conference centre next to hotel, ideal beside it, asked for early check as had little one and room was ready when turned up so grateful for that, although only really using to stay for one night family room was ideal. only down side was breakfast, felt space to get food rather small and was really busy so not ideal when have a child trying to get food as people rather ignorant and pushing passed, would have liked alittle more selection for breakfast but for one night was fine, staff all nice and helpful even with hotel being busy, if at wedding there again would certainly stay over again! 01 June 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant stay We spent two nights in Dunfermline. Chose the area due to the great access to Edinburgh and St Andrews. We drove to St Andrews and chose to take the train to Edinburgh. The train stop was only a 15 minute walk. The staff was very helpful. There were tour bus passengers staying and the staff did a great job in handling the volume in the breakfast area. 30 May 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Slightly let down Location was great for breaking a trip up to inverness. However a few little niggles spoilt things. Arriving at about 7:30 pm with two wee kids we had to wait 20 mins nearly to check in due to only one person manning front desk and the bar. Other staff seemed to be about in the periphery, but did not get involved. Lady on check in was very pleasant, but wish she has some help. Room was ok, but felt tired, especially compared to other IHEs I've tried. Sheets did not fit the bed with a six inch gap (see pic) at the top and no towels put in on arrival for kids. Breakfast was chaos due to large coach parties and whilst not the staffs fault, in fact they coped quite manfully, we had endless tourists pushing myself and my kids out the way to get to the goodies. Ihg platinum status Acknowledged with a hastily offered voucher, but no other mention than, do you want the drink or the voucher. 27 May 2014

But not a bad hotel top marks to all the staff. Will stay again 12 May 2014

I have never found a hotel before that does not cater for me. Also I am disabled and find it strange getting a second floor room 26 March 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment I usually like staying at a Holiday Inn Express but I'm afraid this experience at Dunfermline was rather disappointing. The carpet in the room was badly stained and the pillows were very thin and cheap. I don't usually equate poor quality with a stay at Holiday Inn Express. We were initially delighted that we could order a meal at the bar rather than drive into town but there again, it was a major let down. My vegetarian option of cannelloni with spinach and ricotta was probably a microwaved meal which staff managed to burn on one side and I could not cut into it, far less chew it. The accompanying salad was simply a packet of salad leaves tossed onto the plate with a couple of bits of cucumber - no dressing. The desert of apple pie and custard was cold in sections. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor food Avoid the evening food, bland and very poor value. Chicken Burger was a small piece of poorly cooked breaded chicken, smaller than the empty bun it was in, nothing else, no sauce or salad. Fast food chain would be far better and cheaper !!!! 01 March 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by excellent value Our stay was made a pleasant experience, we have stayed before and would again. The only observations I would make is about the buffet breakfast. Bacon would be a welcome addition to the food on offer. Also a replacement of the coffee mugs for something more in keeping with hotel would be desirable. (the current ones are very much like those you'd expect to find in a (Transport café) 26 February 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by just what I needed at short notice This is a modern clean, comfortable hotel with friendly staff. My only issue is with the smokers staying at the hotel. It was a cold night so they stood just inside the front door causing both the automatic doors to stay open. The longue inside was cold as a result. Overall though a pleasant stay. 19 January 2014
