We enjoyed our stay very much, particularly the central location and a bonus was the nearby car park. We also liked the free breakfast which set us up for the day..This hotel is definitely worth another visit

Friend and I stayed for four days to visit the tourist sites and the German Christmas market. Staff were friendly, efficient and very welcoming. Nice to be met by smiling and helpful reception staff. Brilliant location for doing the tourists sites and shopping. Good value.

We had a great time in Edinburgh at the Holliday Inn, the breakfast was first class, plenty of choices. It was the second visit to this hotel and we will go again.

Came to Edinburgh with friends for the weekend for a party and had a very comfortable stay. Great location, no problems at all. The rooms were cooler than other hotel rooms I had stayed in (you could adjust the heating, but it didn't heat up as much as I though it would), For us this was a big plus as I cannot abide overheated hotel rooms and didn't have to resort to opening the window at night. This was probably why I slept so well.
Basic, but clean, comfortable rooms, enjoyed the breakfast

My friend and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for a very short break. Our flight arrived very early and although check in was supposed to be at 14:00, our room was available at about 12:00 so we could settle in a couple of hours earlier. This made so much difference since we were tired after the journey. The staff were extremely accommodating giving advice and ordering cabs for us. The breakfast was second to non with absolutely everything on the buffet menu!

I enjoyed my stay at Holiday Inn. Although IT IS NOT in the Royal Mile, it's just 30 seconds stroll away from it. Room was comfortable, although a bit too cold; turning on the heating machine wouldn't help much. When I tried to set it on at 25 degrees, it would still automatically set the temperature back to 21 degrees. Annoying.
I think prices are too expensive for what is being offered.

Enjoyed our stay recently very good value for money, very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast was fine. Found the room to be very quiet considering we were in a city.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ScottR56 Excellent Reception
The person on the Reception Desk when we arrived was friendly and efficient with a truly welcoming manner. The room, although on the small side, was well equipped for a one-night stay. The only let down was breakfast with a very limited range of hot dishes - please do something about the quality of the sausages. Breakfast was completely self-service (from collecting your tray at the start to placing your dirty dishes on a trolley at the end) - a very impersonal experience.
The hotel is situated very conveniently for what Edinburgh has to offer the visitor. Although in the city centre we did not experience traffice noise.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JanandJimCanada A real gem of a hotel!
We came from Canada late in the evening and were grateful for the pleasant welcome by the staff. On the following morning, we were pleased to discover how convenient this hotel is to the sights of historic Edinburgh. For most of our four day stay, we walked everywhere. The breakfasts were wonderful and the room was very pleasant. Our window opened for fresh air and looked out into a churchyard with a beautiful rose garden. Staff were very helpful when we needed directions. We want to come back to Edinburgh and would definitely book here. My husband commented several times that it was the perfect hotel for our stay!

Reassuring to set off on a journey confident that ones hotel experience will be clean and comfortable, staff always polite and helpful, water hot, shower good, beds comfortable, breakfast service and systems efficient, and food very acceptable. Hotels are invariably to be found in central or useful location and are good value. Always my first choice.

Stayed in this hotel after my daughter's wedding because of the close proximity to the wedding venue. It was perfectly located and provided everything I required at a great price. I was pleasantly surprised by the great choice at breakfast including hot food as I only expected a "continental" The room was spacious and clean with coffee and tea making facilities. The staff were pleasant and the security entry facility was reassuring in a town centre hotel. Overall great value for money. I will definitely stay in Holiday Inn Express in the future.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sasi360 Excellent location and friendly staff
We stayed at the Hotel for 6 nights in October. We checked into a triple room. The 3rd bed was sofa converted which meant that we could not use the writing desk. Our stay was extremely comfortable with a very friendly staff which was always willing to give us guidance for our trips around Edinburgh and the highlands. Location is excellent in the old town and most places and restaurants are within walking distance. Breakfast spread is excellent, but it was the same every day for 6 days which made it a bit monotonous as the days passed by!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ToffeeNose Great hotel and even better location!
Took my wife and 2 young daughters for a weekend trip to explore the sights in Edinburgh. Location was absolutely fantastic for train station, Castle and museums to the extent that we were able to return during the day to give them some 'chill out' time.
Very happy with hotel as well - clean, tidy, staff very welcoming staff etc. One small issue is that although the room was nice it was a little cramped for 4 of us when the sofa bed was up.

My husband, daughter and myself had an overnight stay on Saturday 26 October. The staff on reception were very helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable and of a very good standard. There was plenty to choose from at breakfast and good quality. The hotel is very close to the Royal Mile so great for sightseeing. Great value for money.

My sister and I were in Edinburgh to see The Lion King and we stayed at this hotel one night. The staff on reception were very welcoming and friendly. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable. It was only a shorft walk to The Playhouse, and very convenient to Princes Street where we did some shopping before returning home. All in all, simply excellent!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 27Buzz27 Excellent All-Around
Location. The immediate neighborhood around the HIE is rather drab and without services, but it is clean, quiet and safe. However, it is only one block from Edinburgh’s main tourist drag, the Royal Mile. I consider the location good.
Physical Plant. It looks quite new, is kept clean and in repair, and is bright and pleasant-looking.
Rooms. Anyone familiar with the HIE model, will recognize the room: functional, all necessities there, adequate size, lights and electronics up-to-date, and nice general appearance. No extras or real amenities; just basics, but good ones.
Breakfast. Excellent selection of good food; anything additional would be excess. Very bright and spacious room. No one was ever waiting for a table, although the hotel was full every night I was there. The tables were cleared and kept clean more rapidly and better than any hotel I can think of, including the HIE’s five-star competitors. High marks here.
Staff. Very friendly and willing to help with all my needs. I had a few problems, which were quickly, effectively taken care of with smiles. You can’t ask for anything more. Very high marks to the staff.
Wi-fi. Congratulations to the HIE for including wi-fi in the room rate, which I consider a necessity now that I have a smart phone. In fact, I will no longer stay in any hotel that does not have in-room wi-fi included in the basic room rate. I had a problem with the wi-fi signal in the first room, but the saff moved me and the alternate room was fine.
I can recommend this HIE and yes, I would return on my next visit to Edinburgh (four days was not enough time to enjoy this wonderful city).

The one night stay is comfortable. The situation of the hotel is near to royal mile old town. But if you have mobility issues or carrying a large luggage it can be a bit duanting with the up hills/ flight of stairs.

I found it a bit pricey.
All in all, a great place to be able to do "The Tourist Thing"

The staff at this hotel is very knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. They recommended good restaurants, ordered a taxi for us and allowed us to use the phone at the front desk. The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped; e.g. television and Wi-Fi in the room. The hot breakfast was very good. Loved the blue night light in the bathroom, and the hotel was nice and quiet.

Excellent for a hotel of this type. My only slight criticism is the poor TV -quality of picture was not very good and no main cable/satellite channels available which one would expect albeit we were there to go out and about I do like to, at least, catch up on the news whilst I am in the room! Also- breakfast choice, although what was available was fine, was very limited.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JEANNIE63 EXCELLENT LOCATION FOR EXPLORING EDINBURGH
Tucked away in Cowgate, you may be forgiven for passing right by this hotel; but the location is excellent in lots of respects. Just a short walk from the Royal Mile, mid way between Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle it is ideal for seeing the sights and easy access to the many bars and restaurants in the area. It also means a quiet stay, away from the hubbub in the evening, even though there are several hostels in the vicinity of the hotel.
The service at the hotel was great; all the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. Rooms very clean and comfortable and serviced daily. Breakfast was functional; what you would expect from a hotel of this type which serves guests who are on business as well as those on holiday like ourselves. If you are staying a few days as we were, it would be nice to have a change of selection for the hot breakfast eg bacon instead of sausages sometimes for instance, but overall choice for both hot and cold breakfast was good. Bar prices were a bit steep and as the bar is in the lobby it did not really lend itself to having a relaxed drink.
We would choose this hotel again when visiting Edinburgh. Price was more than we would normally pay, but the benefits of its location outweighed the cost of taxis that could have been necessary if we had chosen to stay further out.

Across the board, we were pleased with our three-night stay at Holiday Inn Express in Edinburgh. The desk staff was especially courteous and helpful throughout our stay. Our room and the public rooms were spotless. One suggestion: Please consider adding pancakes or waffles to the breakfast menu. Yes, we would welcome a return visit to Edinburgh and Holiday Inn Express.
