Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by first visit to Hoylake Visiting Hoylake for funeral of a very good friend. A sad time but very pleased to find no problems with hotel at this distressing time. Would be very happy to come back again in the near future. It would be nice to find that there was a better choice of breakfast menu. 22 October 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FOCUS ON THE GUEST NON-EXISTENT Having made my reservation online, I subsequently made telephone contact with the hotel, in order to confirm that my Rewards Club membership would enable me to have a later-than-'standard' checkout time. On checking in, the receptionist commented that there was no record of any request having been made by me, but that it should be ''OK''. I visited the front desk on two separate occasions. Each time, I found the reception counter unstaffed, although it was clear that staff who should have been available there to interact with guests, had instead chosen to engage, through a doorway, in conversation with one or more colleagues who were located in the office to the rear. Reception staff had their back to the counter, and seemed oblivious to arriving/waiting guests. On the day of my departure, despite the existence of an extended checkout time, my electronic key was disabled at midday, requiring me to visit the front desk, once more, in order to have the key re-enabled. No apology was offered in connection with my obvious inconvenience. Insult to my injury was added by the knocking on my door, after my key had been re-enabled, of a member of the housekeeping team. The individual concerned stated that she needed to know whether or not I was proposing to checkout. On being told by me, that late checkout applied to my stay, she commented, without offering any form of apology, that it was 'normal' for front desk staff to not keep her informed of guest departure times. Leadership, management, communication and coordination are all in extremely short supply at this IHG establishment, 22 October 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible breakfast selection I only stayed here because I was on business and availability elsewhere was limited. I wouldn't stay again. The breakfast selection was the worst I have ever seen, and I hated eating in what was basically a draughty entrance lobby of the hotel. 20 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lovely shower This was the first time I had stayed at this Express and I was very pleasantly surprised at the very high standard. I had not asked for a disabled friendly room but this was not required as the shower was large and very low entry. I am not a great breakfast fan so like the self service buffet type Overall impression very clean very helpful staff and would certainly reccommend it to anyone visiting Hoylake or Liverpool as access and parking are great. 13 October 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by poor shower drainage The shower was great apart from the water not draining away which meant the water over spilled out of the shower we reported this on our way our to dinner but it was still the same the next morning We again reported this when leaving and the lad on the desk did nothing to write down the problem 01 October 2014
