Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Disappointing for IHG
Mainly good but disappointed by the state of the room. It was clean but there was a huge scrape mark down one wall and the curtains were partly off the track. This is the standard I expect of budget hotels not IHG, so disappointed.

My friend and I had a really good experience when we stayed Friday to Sunday at the Holiday Inn Express near Leeds Royal Armouries.
The staff were the best part of this budget hotel experience although the room and it's faculties were well above average.
I don't know how the staff manage to stay so positive and helpful when confronted by large groups of tired people turning up on a Friday night. I found them polite and helpful
The setting in as part of a large piazza is somewhat stark and sterile but the hotel is pretty easy to find and it helps that it's opposite the Royal Armouries museum.
It's a 10/15 min walk from Leeds station which makes it convenient for public transport users.

The hotel was clean and comfortable with a modern feel right in the middle of the canal basin development.
A short walk brought you into the centre of the City with bars and restaurants.
Staff were very helpful and friendly.
The only slight downside was no parking in front of the hotel and needing to use an NCP car park next door.

I would not recommend going to this hotel. If you have to don't pay for breakfast eat at Mac Donald's the quality will be better and leave plenty of time at check in and check out as they do not have enough staff on duty.

Perfectly located hotel for visiting the armouries and using the conference centre, but also a short walk into the city centre. Brilliant for a meander round the canal and very quiet sleeping accommodation. The bed was very comfortable and the staff extremely helpful. Would definitely stay again. The bus stopped right outside the centre from the train station.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by baldrick911 a good nite's sleep
A great centrally located hotel, good car parking facilities nearby, safe and secure. Light airy feel to hotel lobby / reception / bar area; room was neat tidy, fresh smelling with the most comfortable bed......No noise from traffic / people outside, a most comfortable room and a great nite's sleep. Thank you.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Scott92 Room smelled like an old ashtray
I booked in for two nights for a conference being held at The Armouries. When I entered my room, I immediately smelled the familiar smell of old cigarettes - a smell I really have difficulty with. I went to the front desk and requested a room change. Unfortunately, due to the busy conference, they were completely booked out. The manager, who was very friendly and nice, told me that all the rooms were non-smoking rooms and offered me a air freshener. I declined as there is nothing worse then the smell of lilac/peach/apple and old stale smoke. I requested that if a room became available that he contact me to switch. He nodded but didn't take my information down - leaving me to just have to lump it. I went on Twitter to complain on the Holiday Inn Express site...and immediately received a response stating that a room was available and that the manager was aware. However, they said his name was Michael...the manager on call that day was Don. Needless to say, not happy...but as the room was paid for by the conference, I felt that I couldn't complain too much. The next night, I could smell the old smoke smell coming from the vents. I smelled like I had sat in an old pub for the duration of the conference. Can't say that I'd stay here again.
