The hotel is very close to the University of Manchester, and to the city Center. The location is excellent. But the room is really too samll, and the air contioner does not work well. The breakfest is the same everyday. The worest thing is that everytime you ask the same quesiton, you will have diffrent answers.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by VCJ79 Neither myself, nor members of my party will be returning.
From a shower that didn't drain away properly, to a breakfast buffet that was poorly organised and lacking in the basics (eg. No milk in the coffee machine resulting in no matter what drink you selected, it turned out as simply black coffee), the overall experience at this hotel was disappointing. On the day of checkout, there was also a query over the bill, which had been paid in full in advance, and yet which staff continued to insist their records showed there was still a significant amount outstanding. Furthermore, staff at this establishment were found to be rude, unhelpful and unapproachable when members of my party asked them basic questions regarding the lifts and made requests for additional tea and coffee supplies.
Perhaps one of the most concerning elements of my experience was the lack of security regarding left bags. Whilst these were labelled and stored in a locked room, upon reclaiming my bag, I was simply allowed to search the room for this myself, with no member of staff checking my ticket matched the one on the bag. It would have been extremely easy for me to take a laptop or handbag from this room and no staff member would have queried this.
I shall not be returning to this or any other holiday inn express establishment.

Apparently 2 days before I arrived the air conditioning broke on the 9th and 10th floors. Given that a mere 2 days was available any decently managed hotel would have telephoned those booked to make them aware of the situation and offer to move them to a different hotel. Instead on my arrival at midnight I was told that the aircon wasn't working but there was a fan in the room. It was a fan with a broken bass that just moved the hot air around the room producing an annoying whirr.
I understand that our country is not often hot. However on one of the warmest days for years I paid money to not sleep in a sauna. This could have been avoided very easy by commonsense management.

We stayed here recently for my sons Graduation and the location is perfect for central Manchester.
However, it seemed busy and the staff stressed. There were problems with one of the rooms which resulted in us being moved.
Breakfast was chaotic and not well stocked with food, cutlery and crockery. It was eventually replenished but we needed to go by then.
I have stayed in many Holiday Inn Express hotels which have been excellent value for money and a positive experience, sadly this one wasn't either on this occasion.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Priority2 Good value, convenient location
We got a great price here by paying ahead. The location was outstanding, right on the free shuttle bus line that got us to all the museums we wanted. (There are three free shuttle lines that take folks around downtown Manchester.) There were some restaurants within a few blocks, and many within a mile. Lots of buses ran right past the hotel towards the famous Curry Mile with lots of Indian and Pakistani restaurants. The air conditioning was good, the bathroom was nice, the breakfast was good, and the staff was really helpful. The only downside for us was the bed; the mattress was not great, and a double bed is smaller than what we are used to for the two of us. Internet access is five pounds a day, limited to one device.

I must say that nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. The hotel was very central for what we needed. The rooms was great, bathroom and shower was superb, and a lovely hot breakfast and variety of food available.
The staff were fantastic. We were able to leave our luggage on our last day while we went for a last bit of shopping! The reception staff even booked us in online for our return flight and printed our boarding cards,

This was our second stay at the hotel and as happy this time as last. Clean, modern, spacious room with friendly staff and a decent breakfast for the price. Excellent location also.
One down side is the discounted car parking has moved from the multi-storey around the corner to a Euro Car Park on spare land some way down the road opposite the hotel, not too far but not ideal in the rain.

This must be one of the newer hotels because the bathroom design is different and the room seemed slightly larger than normal. The new shower layout is grteat - plenty of space and beautifully appointed. The only problem with our room was that the shower drain wasn't working properly so the bowl filled with water which stood for a while after the shower had been used. A minor issue but one I thought would have been picked up by housekeeping during cleaning.
If not for this the hotel would have scored Excellent in all categories. Will be happy to stay again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Angie1778 Great hotel in the heart of Manchester
Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Booked it as going to the Robbie Williams concert. Excellent early check in, there was a leaflet on the reception desk with all the transport options which was fantastic. Room was comfortable and clean. I had asked for extra pillows on my reservation and was pleased to see that they were on the bed!
The bed was comfortable. Tea and coffee was readily replaced when requested. The shower was spacious and water hot. Breakfast was more than adequate, I liked the serve yourself and then sit down, it stopped people reserving tables. Reception staff recommended a fantastic Indian restaurant for dinner on our second night. All in all a fantastic stay. Will definitely be going back and recommending to friends!

Stayed at this hotel for one night with my sister as we were going to see Robbie Williams At the time of booking I was told there were no twin rooms available but could have a double with a sofa bed. When we checked in and got to our room the sofa bed had not been made up All it took was a phone call to reception and it was sorted.
The room was spotless and the shower in the bathroom All staff very helpful and pleasant All in all an enjoyable stay and would definitely stay here again

The wet room for a disabled person was first class. The room was comfortable and large enough to be easily negotiated by a wheel chair. The staff were helpful and friendly. I will definitely use this hotel again when I am in Manchester. PS the negotiated rate for the car park, £7:00 overnight was good value and the car was safe.there is also a 24 hr.shop next door to get a paper etc. How good is that!

Enjoyed my stay, the staff were really helpful even though the hotel was busy. It is a central location and only a short walk to a tram stop. Enjoyed the great views of the city from my 10th floor room. Only problem I had was finding the car park as there are two in the street and it is easy to park in the Total car park by mistake as the other car park is hidden further down the road.

I had a great stay and one particular girl was such a helpful friendly member of staff that I wish that I could remember her name so that she could receive thanks , she was young with shortish blonde hair and deserves to be thanked as she helped me with 2 or 3 things . The room was great and clean , the only thing that was not great was that at 9 40 there was only sausage and scrambled egg left and when asked if there was anything else the staff were quite abrupt that no not at that time even though breakfast was until 10. This did not impact on my stay and I was very impressed overall.

I accidently made pre paid reservations online for 5 nights but realizing the mistake called the hotel directly within few minutes of the booking and was told by the front desk that they cannot do anything but the on-duty manager should be able to refund me the money. Upon my arrival i mentioned this to the on-duty manager and was told that nothing could be done once the payment has been made and though i stayed there for 4 nights i was charged for 5 nights. I was coming back the next week as well and suggested for a credit but apparently that is something that could not be done!!

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel. It is very clean and comfortable. The bathroom and shower are great. There is plenty of choice for breakfast. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sunshine07 comfortable and functional hotel; shame about breakfast
The rooms were perfectly functional, well appointed and comfortable.
There was no wardrobe just a rail and hangers near the kettle. The bed was firm. The 4 pillows were labelled Firm and Soft - a lovely touch, but just a shame the pillows were on the thin side.
The bathroom was clean and a decent size. it was a bit light on amenities (offering only a shower gel and hand wash), but there was a note offering guest additional free amenities from the reception (like toothbrush, shaving gel etc.).
The included breakfast was probably one of the worst I have had. All the 'hot items' were cold, despite being under 'hot lamps'. The scrambled eggs had the look and texture of cous-cous (dry and sand-like).
Overall a comfortable hotel in a nice central lcation.

We arrived at the hotel the morning of 18 May prior to the proper check-in time. We had a fair amount of luggage in tow and we wished to place it safely away. We then intended to trek about Manchester and return later to check in.
The kind folk at the hotel not only let us check in early and thus give us relief of our luggage burden, they allowed us to partake of breakfast that same morning. That was very kind of them indeed!
The hotel is situated nearby the Manchester Oxford Road rail depot. This was our primary motive for choosing the hotel.

Stayed one night, after a concert at Bridgewater Hall. Staff on Reception very welcoming and helpful - problem with TV remote sorted within minutes. Comfortable room, good heating/air con, choice of pillows, good bathroom. Hotel pretty busy, to judge by people down for breakfast, but no noise overnight. Excellent breakfast. This hotel was very basic and comfortable. We were there to celebrate New Year's Eve and had two rooms with people. With a little furniture arrangement there was plenty of space in the rooms for us to have a couple of pre drinks and the staff were more than happy to provide us with some extra glasses. Security was good as a key card is needed to use the lift. Just round the corner from the main train station and a short taxi or London walk from the main clubs and pubs of the city centre.
Breakfast was nothing to shout about but it was helpful with the bad hang overs for those of us who made it!

easy to get to being a 2 min walk from oxford road train station, 5 mins walk from the tram and with a free city centre bus which stops outside. the bus also makes it easy to explore the city shops. within walking distance of the palace theatre, the art gallery and china town.
the hotel itself is pretty much what you would expect from a Holiday Inn express. the room was clean, quiet and a really comfortable bed.
And the palace theatre is just 2 mins away.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ConstantTraveler2010 Definitely won't stay here again
I stayed here for 3 nights because I had business at the University of Manchester, which is within easy walking distance of the hotel. I stay in a lot of hotels over the course of a year and would definitely not stay in this one on future trips to Manchester.
It took three people to check me in. The staff was not very professional, and they were too busy joking around with each other to pay much attention to me as I was checking in. I am a Priority Club Gold member, and this was never acknowledged during my stay. I was not seeking any special privileges, but normally I am at least greeted using my name when I check in to a Holiday Inn property. I called down to the desk for a couple of reasons over the course of my stay and the staff were generally rude and unhelpful, as if I was interrupting some much more important thing that they were doing. I asked for directions to the Manchester Museum (less than 15 minute walk from the hotel, and one of the few family-friendly venues in the immediate area), and the gentleman on the counter had no idea where it was, although another of his colleagues eventually came to his rescue and even found a map to give me with the location marked on it. When I checked out, I had a very early flight, so had to leave the hotel before 6 am. There was nobody at the desk because they were all having their breakfast in the kitchen, I had to call out 3 times before anybody wandered out of the kitchen and even then I was informed that they were in the middle of their breakfast. My mistake for thinking the guest should have priority over the staff's breakfast!
The room was freezing. Despite having the heat set to the highest level and greatest fan speed, the room did not warm up after several hours. When I called down to request another blanket, I was informed that the heat had to be switched on at the front desk. They did so, but the room never did warm up. Unless you stood approximately two and one-half feet from the heat fan (which was above the room door), it was impossible to feel any heat at all. I slept in pajamas, socks and a sweatshirt and needed two layers of clothes when sitting around the room at any time. The only way to get hot water in the bathroom basin was to flush the toilet, otherwise the water was lukewarm at best. The wall-mounted desk lamp did not work, even when the bulb was changed and I had to request that the staff find me some sort of alternative lighting so that it was possible to work at the desk - it was very dark without a light. They did manage to find a floor lamp for me.
The room was not very clean. There were spots on the pillowcases and sheets, the sofa and nearly every surface in the room (including the shelf above the tea kettle) were dusty, there were stains on the sofa and desk chair, and the carpet was badly stained - it had clearly not been shampooed in a very long time (if ever). There was a very unpleasant mildew smell from the shower drain and the toilet water. The first time I pulled on the shower door, the handle came off. At least they managed to repair that the same day! I encountered the cleaner one day because I needed to keep working my room for the day. I only wanted her to clean the bathroom and make the bed, but she did not understand enough English to do as I had requested. The bed was simply not made properly one other day - the duvet was left untucked and the sheet was lumpy.
The general amenities were poor. I do not generally object to the single container in the shower or by the sink that is supposed to act as shampoo and body wash or hand soap, but the quality of the product was very poor. I was truly annoyed by the use of paper facecloths. I have never seen that in a hotel before (even the budget hotels I have stayed in in the past). I cannot believe that cleaning facecloths as part of the laundry would cost more or be more wasteful than the paper facecloths that were useless in the shower. Although breakfast was free, the food quality was not good. Even at 7 am, the bread was stale, the scrambled eggs very runny and there were limited choices overall.
There is no restaurant in the neighborhood, so you have to go out to find meals. There is not much selection for places to eat in the immediate area, and I didn't feel very comfortable wandering around the area after dark. The hotel is just around the corner from Manchester's Oxford Road rail station, which might be a benefit if you are arriving at this station.
Overall, I thought this was a poor quality hotel, even for budget accommodation. In particular, I was rather annoyed by the customer service of the front desk staff, and the shocking lack of climate control in the room. I have at least one more trip to Manchester scheduled in a few weeks, and I will be booking into a competing hotel just up the road, I think, rather than attempting to stay at this hotel again. I certainly would not pay to stay at this particular hotel, and I would not recommend it.
