Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic location I've never been to this area before and was only staying overnight so my son could go to the National Cycling Centre which is about 5 miles away. Firstly, I was impressed by the location being right on the waterside. We were lucky enough to have a room overlooking the water and enjoyed spotting the birdlife (gulls, coots, ducks, swans, geese and cormorants) as well as watching the rowers (eights). Although we didn't use them, the trams to get into the centre were within a short walking distance away. The Lowry Centre, Media City, Imperial War Museum, BBC and ITV studios, plus an outlet shopping mall were within walking distance. I always begrudge having to pay (why, oh why???) for hotel car parks when staying in hotels but this was comparatively cheap at £3. The hotel itself was clean and we were greeted by two friendly members of staff. We often stay in a lower-end-of-the market hotel chain (tend to choose the newly refurbished ones) - so I do expect a higher standard from HIE hotels, however I was a little disappointed with some of the finer details: where tiles in the bathroom had had to be replaced, they didn't exactly match (same design but slightly different colour); the shower enclosure itself was not as sturdy as I'd expect, and some of the silicone around the base was discoloured with bits of black; the toilet seat was also more flimsy than I would expect from a HIE. I would also have liked an electric socket near the mirror. All a little 'nit-picky' and minor, I suppose, but that's because I have come to expect a high standard from this chain of hotels. Overall, however, the location was great, all the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and - extremely helpful to us - as an IHG member I was able to take advantage of the offer (subject to availability) to have a late (2pm) check-out. 24 February 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant stay, helpful and efficient staff Very comfortable, pleasant stay. Staff helpful and efficient: warm and friendly welcome from Pedro on Reception. Then one morning when coming down to breakfast we reported to him that our hairdryer wasn't working (this was the first time we'd tried it); we made it clear that we weren't complaining, and it wasn't a problem - simply something that needed attention sometime. Pedro took the trouble to call a colleague (maintenance, I think) who managed to find us in the breakfast room, to check if we needed it repairing/replacing immediately. Very commendable, we felt. 24 February 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn Express Salford Quays Our stay was excellent, lovely and inviting, our room overlooking the quay. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this hotel, as its been one of the most pleasant stays ever. The area that the hotel is situated in is great for transport, eating out or just taking a relaxing evening stroll along the quays. We found it very easy to get about using public transport or by foot, and yet the noise levels were very low. 21 February 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great value family stay Warm welcome on arrival and generally attentive service throughout. Room was tight for 4 of us but matched expectations and was clean and tidy with a bright bathroom and good shower. Breakfast room was small and got busy trying to access items but there were plenty of staff to top up items and it was a decent choice. Slight issue with room on arrival was quickly dealt with. Service all round was very good and all in all was excellent value for money. 20 February 2015
