A lovely hotel with all the amenities required for a short stay.
Easily accessible and a good comfortable bed to sleep in after a day out wandering around the sites of Durham and the surrounding countryside.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gus53 Clean and comfortable
We stayed here for 4 nights and can't fault it. The staff were friendly and efficient,. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The rooms are due to be refurbished but you wouldn't think it was required! I was concerned about outside noise due to proximity to busy road and nearby bars and restaurants as I am a light sleeper, but the rooms seem very well insulated - I wasn't disturbed at all. We will definitely use this hotel again.

My wife and I were in the area for a funeral and having used this hotel previously, it was our first choice.
As previous the hotel was clean, tidy, parking was easy, food was nearby.
The staff were most helpful and dealt with all our needs, they were pleasant and greeted with a smile.
Room was in a quiet area of hotel, much appreciated and our room looked over the river.
Railway also near to room but this was not a problem.
Room was cool on entry but soon warmed up.
I would use this hotel again and would certainly advise my friends about this gem in the HIE group.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by FionaR good overnight stay
We had a comfortable overnight stay last week, hubby for business nearby, me for shopping at Intu MetroCentre nearby.
There are a few restaurants literally 2 minutes' walk away #food at Skiff Inn next door was good and of big portions#, with the added bonus of ample free parking.
The staff were courteous and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean. We were particularly impressed with the crisp bedlinen and thick fluffy towels, and free wi-fi in rooms. The cons? No bathtub #but power shower was good#, and no air-conditioning; the room got quite warm in the night, and we had to leave the window slightly open. Breakfast could be improved, but as it was included in the rate, we cannot really complain.
Good value for money, and we shall definitely return.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by md3v Comfortable & Great Staff
My family of four stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Metro Centre between November 7th and November 8th.
Check-In – Staff were very friendly at check in and offered us several perks with our Platinum status. They also explained what facilities were available and made sure that the sofa bed had been prepared.
Room – The room was small but comfortable with a queen sized bed and sofa bed. The bathroom was well laid out and clean. Like many British hotels is lacked air-conditioning and instead a small fan was provided. We left the window open and the fan running and the room was sufficiently comfortable.
Internet – Internet was quite slow, particularly in the morning and late evening. I resorted to using 4G service for email and business activities.
Breakfast - Breakfast was typical Holiday Inn Express fair, hot and clean. Staff were slow to clean up tables and plates but responded quickly when prompted.
Staff – One of our children was ill while in Newcastle and one of the desk staff, Richard, went out of his way to assist us with extra bedding, towels etc. as well as directing us to the nearest A&E at 3 am in the morning. Thank you Richard!
Overall – This is a great little hotel and very convenient to the Metro Centre. We appreciate the staff and the clean rooms!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Alyson007 Nice hotel
Booked in for one night for a shopping trip. Friendly staff, lovely room, very clean. Walls not that thick. Only down side was the lift. Our room was two doors away and every time someone used the lift the automated female voice played 'door opening door closing'. That's fine during the day but with people coming and going at all hours its a little annoying. Suggest turning it off overnight if possible.
