This hotel is a perfect example of the changes that IHG in general is making to its previously almost universally deplorable reception services. Now you can expect and usually receive a warm welcome at the desk with a very full explanation of the hotels' services. In this case, additionally, there was no problem with arriving early and leaving the car before checking in later.
The hotel is half a mile or so from the city centre. It's on a busy road but access to free car parking in a covered garage immediately beside the hotel entrance is straightforward although the sign could be more prominent as you drive up. The hotel has a modern appearance but be aware that it covers parts of the old hotels that have stood on this site for decades. As a result some of the corridors are narrow and my room, on the first floor, was somewhat strange with windows opening onto an internal light well. But it was spotlessly clean and had a very comfy king size bed and adequate storage for a short stay. Another recent improvement in Holiday Inns is that of using a duvet without an unnecessary extra bed sheet, setting it apart from and better than other hotels. There was a shower over a standard bathtub, all in good order but shower water pressure could be better. Good towels, lots of hot water and a real block of soap instead of wall mounted leaky tubs rounded off a well fitted bathroom.
A good breakfast buffet started the day off well. There was plenty of choice of cold and hot food, excellent fruit selections and good beverages all helped along by smiling staff. The room is a restaurant in the evenings. In the morning there was ample evidence of last night's breadcrumbs showing that the carpet could have been better cleaned overnight.
The Metro is two minutes walk and the motorway just beyond the station. You can walk to the city in 10 minutes.

This hotel is excellent value for money - in fact less expensive than the nearby 'low cost' chains. The room is clean, there are complimentary items in the minibar and the shower is excellent (although it took me a while to realise there was a rainfall head as well as the handheld one!)
Breakfast was buffet style but a full selection was available. The bar didn't have the largest selection of spirits but prices were reasonable for a full service hotel.
The only downside I found was that on checking in we felt that there was a huge list of things being pushed as paid extras, most of which we didn't want. But overall I'd recommend this hotel highly.

we stayed here to visit Newcastle university open day.Both the rooms we had booked were excellent esp. 251 which is a huge room. The decor was lovely,everything clean, comfy beds,nice touches with complimentary itemsin fridge, it was good to have a fridge in the room.Good size bathroom with power shower.we asked for a quiet rooms which they were no noise from the road at all. it was good to be able to leave the car in hotel car park and walk into Newcastle which took about 10 minutes to city centre.
The breakfast was lovely lots of fresh fruit,cereals,cooked breakfast etc. All the staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful.
we will definitely staff here again when next in the area and recommend it to friends and family. thank you to all the staff.

Good location close to city, proper, free car park, warm and efficient check in staff. Good size room, very comfortable bed, complimentary soft drinks. Sadly some of the guests were inconsiderate and keen to be loud. Decent breakfast, and a reasonable price.

I booked this hotel a while ago as it was close to where I needed to be for work, I wasn't expecting much, just a bed really, I was surprised to find very friendly and helpful staff and a room that surpassed many that I have stayed at, in various places around the UK. The added benefit of a small but very adequate gym was a bonus, and then relaxing in a room that was very comfortable and left you feeling refreshed for the day ahead. If there was any cons to this hotel it would be the TV, if only the guide worked properly, I'm really clutching at straws...

This is the third time I have stayed at the Holiday Inn at Jesmond Newcastle and again I was very impressed with the welcome we received and the friendliness of the staff. The rooms offered good value for money, my only issue was that the neighbouring room's television was on the same wall as the bed in in my room so I could hear everything from their television. Small matter but did affect when I finally got to sleep.
Very friendly staff in the restaurant Fratelli's on Friday night and again for breakfast on Saturday morning.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable and provides a good nights sleep.
The staff are friendly and efficient and the hotel is located near to the Metro and walking distance from the University of Newcastle
The car can be left at the hotel and saving on car parking fees

I have stayed here a couple of times and the rooms have always been very pleasant and the food excellent.
The internal layout of the hotel is a little confusing - it's mostly well signposted and almost all areas are accessible by lift though sometimes finding the right lift is a challenge!
The surrounding area is plesant. It is quite studenty but Osborne Road offers a number of gastropubs and bars - though many close at 9.30pm. The hotel restaurant is also worth checking out.

Great weekend stay, rooms on the small side but were also very comfortable , lovely breakfast, ate in restaurant on one night, again very good, great location less than 15 mins walk to city centre and lovely park at other end of street, 5mins walk to metro. Had a problem with bill on checkout but soon sorted by pleasant staff member, will definitely stay again

I forgot some belongings after departure and wrote several emails about these but got no answers from the hotel. Had to let a friend go there and ask for them.........Not a good way to handle this matter!!

We arrived relatively late on the Friday evening and relaxed immediately as we were welcomed so genuinely at reception. Our room was spacious with all we needed for our one night stay.
Although we didn't want a full meal there was plenty of choice in the bar restaurant. We enjoyed very tasty sandwiches with a few drinks , whilst chatting to our son who lives in the Jesmond area.
Leaving early to walk into Newcastle centre on the Saturday, we were able to return to the hotel and enjoy a late breakfast joined by our son. Afterwards we chatted in the reception area , watching the world go by.
Our journey back to the Tyne Tunnel was relatively easy .
The whole weekend was very relaxing and enjoyable.
Thanks to all the staff at the Jesmond Holiday Inn.

We stayed for the weekend and the room was fantastic size and decorated lovely but sadly spent most of the time in the room freezing as the A/C wasnt working properly and the bathroom was so cold it was like been outside.
We did complain to reception who very quickly brought up a heater but this should be the case in a brand new room and was constantly told that it was a BIG room !!!! and it may take longer to warm up very disappointing to be honest.

Have stayed in a lot of Holiday Inn Hotels this was the best so far, it was clean modern and the staff were very attentive. I was offered an upgraded which was a welcome surprise. The room was light and airy and spotlessly clean, you could ask for no more for a goodnights sleep at a reasonable price.

Excellent location with easy access to Newcastle centre.
Car park very useful. Well equipped modern bedroom (apart from a very uncomfortable chair).
Evening meal in the "Italian" restaurant only average. Breakfast was good. The staff were efficient and helpful. We will be back.

I have stopped at this hotel since it has been refurbished and its in a great location and has excellent staff BUT the room maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. Quite often light bulbs are out, lamps do not work and on the one but last visit the 'hot' water was barely tepid, or even more bizarrely remote controls for TV don't work with the TV system!!!. Put this with poor sound proofing in some of the executive rooms on the first floor can make a stay a bit hitty- miss. The internet is quite stable these days but the TV system is prone to freeze.
All of the se problems are niggles and could be addressed very simply however there seems to be no real plan in force to address them.
Having said that being close to the Metro and the free parking it is not a bad venue. I will still use it as I've sussed out one or two of the best rooms that are quite and everything works :-)

I don't have much time so i'll keep this short, although i could write a lot more on how disappointing my stay was. I wouldn't recommend the Jesmond Hotel. For instance, my 'Executive' room 119 was directly above the restaurant/bar, and every night the music was unbearable, until they closed at 10pm - i had to phone down every night to ask if it could be turned down #a guest should never have to do this!#.
Additionally, i was charged for a paper each day, even though it was supposed to be complimentary with the room #says so on the booking site# and i never once recieved the paper i ordered.
Finally, on two occasions my wake-up alarm was late, fortuneately i had already risen, but this is unacceptable especially for a business patron!
I should mention the food was really good, and the hotel did have a nice atmosphere, just didn't want the atmosphere in my room every night after a 10hr business day i just wanted to relax and couldn't Colleagues mentioned the same problem in other rooms...,
Overall, a poor service and accommodation. I'm sorry, but i wouldn't recommend this hotel.

My wife and I spent New Year's Eve there and had a wonderful evening and night. Our deal was dinner bed and breakfast. The room was as to be expected at a HI hotel up to the usual high standfard. Dinner was served at the Fratello's restaurant attached to the building and was of a high quality; the three-course meal was tasty, extremely presented and the portions were very generous. Waiting was very pleasant, attentive and friendly. The table being New Year's Eve was well decorated with crackers and a party gift box (poppers, etc# and we were served 6 petits fours to start with. BRILLIANT!
The morning breakfast was fantastic.
Easy to walk into town or to the quayside #10-15 minutes for both venues).
We fully enjoyed our transitonal 2012-2013 night.

I was one of a party of 12 that booked to stay on New Year's Eve. The theme was 'red carpet, Oscar type night'. The tables were set out lovely but other than 2giant Oscar figures, that disappeared after about 30mins, that was it. I was also told that a rat pack style singer would be on. Instead it was 2guys that came on about 11pm and played a melody of songs till about 2am. The food was nice but not special. We always go away for new year but usually go to a Marriott hotel. I think we have been spoilt previous years as there is nothing we would complain about, everything is perfect , and its the same price.
