Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by A long weekend in Portsmouth Very disappointed at the cost of staying here which was paid 5 months in advance. Described on other reviews as a budget hotel but definitely not budget prices! Despite an excellent location, the poor decor, poor comfort levels and poor cleanliness are not reflected in the prices. Buffet breakfast very poor and not free given the room costs. Staff an asset, particularly Saphy on reception but the whole place needs refurbished. What a disappointment on our third stay in Portsmouth. Also still waiting on my IHG Rewards Club card after three different requests - does it actually exist? July 27, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by breakfast Disappointed with choice of cooked breakfast, scrambled egg so solid and tepid, unsure whether sausages were made with meat, very tasteless. Bed comfortable but mattress needed replacing as it dipped towards the middle. Overall we enjoyed our stay. July 22, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Carpets need replacing The carpets are well overdue to getting replaced. Even the room smelt bad from the stained carpets. The shared areas were also poor with masking tape in many areas. This hotel needs updating urgently. This is the most expensive HIE I have ever stayed at, but also the most disappointing one. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not Up to IHG Snuff I was very disappointed in the HI Express in Portsmouth, GB. The property was well worn (to be kind), the carpet and furniture in my room were quite dirty, and the two elevators had been out of service for what appears to have been an extended amount of time. For me, this hotel does not measure up to the IHG brand. I was staying only one night (to catch a ferry to France). If your plans include more than a quick visit, I'd look elsewhere, at least until the hotel is updated, cleaned and repaired. One positive was the location, adjacent to a shopping mall, dock attractions and several restaurants. And it was a quick taxi ride to the ferry terminal. July 13, 2015
