Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Compared to Others in the Area The best part of the hotel was that the rooms were up to date, it had free breakfast, and the price was good. I stayed at this hotel before, when it was new and the room was cleaner then, but the breakfast has improved since then. I like that they now have a pancake machine, since the quality of the other hot food is lacking. The cinnamon rolls have improved since I have last stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. The rolls used to be worse than the one's out of a convenience store package, but now they are pretty good. Too bad the eggs are still microwaved, powdered eggs and the sausage patties looked shriveled and dried out. In the room, the bathroom was clean and had towels in good condition. The showerhead could have used a cleaning as it was clogged with hard water deposits and didn't spray very well. The room had a refrigerator and microwave which was convenient, but I prefer having a freezer compartment to refreeze ice pack at night, so I can use it in my lunch cooler during the day. I like that both firm and soft pillows were provided on the bed, since I am picky about pillows. The room was not as clean or as maintained as it should have been. I found a wire hanger on the floor, under the suitcase stand, the mount for the flat screen TV was loose and the angle of the TV could not be adjusted anymore, so the TV hung crooked. Also, it would have been nice if the headboard for the bed had been wiped down after the last guests. It had greasy handprints and something splashed on it...gross. Oh, and the ice machine outside my room blew air into the hotel corridor that smelled like a wet dog, but at least the smell did not get into my room. The room was odorless, as it should be. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Watch your bill/charges They charged $20 "incidental fees" per room for calls and pay per views and did not tell us about it. It is ok to have a fee on top (even if it is non-refundable) but they should have been upfront about it. They claimed it would be credited immediately after checking out but did not. Otherwise, the rooms are nice and clean and the indoor pool was a nice touch. Breakfast was ok. Pillows were a bit too soft. August 4, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not so great if you are looking for a Quiet Night or to Sleep In... The Hotel / Lobby was nice and clean. The Room was nice and clean except the bathroom did not smell so fresh. It smelled like they cleaned with stale rags. I purchased Clorox wipes to wipe down the bathroom but that didn't do much for the smell. If you are looking to get some rest, this is not the place. The ceilings and walls must be made of cardboard and there must have been 5 kids above me. I heard every bump, jump, thump and bang imaginable. And if you finally do fall asleep after midnight, by 8AM you will be awakened by doors slamming in the hallway - constant slamming of doors - this happened every day of my stay. So much for sleeping in. The breakfast was nice the first day, but by Sunday @9:15 I guess they ran out of food. Many of the food trays were much for breakfast that day. The location seemed understaffed - when you called the front desk the phone just rang. If you approach the front desk and no one is there, you had to ring the bell - and then wait, and wait, and then go search for someone. Also the staff was courteous but not warm and friendly - there is a difference. You have to ask all of the questions you think you have because they will not volunteer any information. Parking was interesting, most of the parking is around the side of the hotel but you can only get into the hotel through the front door. All of the other doors are for exit only - they are equipped with key cards - so why don't they work? That was an inconvenience at times. Last - please be aware that if you leave your room after 12 noon, you will not get housekeeping services. No one told me that (remember you have to ask all of the questions you THINK you may have) so I returned to my room that evening to find that it had not been cleaned - oh joy. Upon check out, the front desk clerk did not ask me "How was your stay"...I wonder why??? August 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean and Quiet Room Easy to find, near highway. I checked in super late and checked out very early. I wish I could have stayed longer and enjoyed the room because it really was a nice place to stay. The beds were comfortable and everything was as it should be. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area. August 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable rooms and outstanding service Spent the weekend here with my family exploring Monterey Bay had an amazing time here when relaxing with my family. Angela at the front desk was very nice and very helpful I think she deserves a raise for going above and beyond to make our time here very much like home. I definitely would recommend staying here if passing through salinas. July 29, 2015
