I stayed at this hotel for 13 days as I was in San Diego for business. We booked this hotel because of the close location to the freeway (which it was very easy to access). I have stayed at many Holiday Inns expresses and other IHG hotels as I travel about 50% of the time.
Good - Hotel was in a decent location. Very close to the 8 which brought you straight to the 5 or 163. Made getting around very easy. A security guard walked around at night which gave everyone a sense of ease due to the immediate area the hotel was located in. There were numerous homeless people around. Parking was easy to get and FREE! Dry cleaning service was fast and good. Better rate than most hotels I have stayed at before too. The overall price of the hotel was the best around for the season. Hotel building looked nice and updated from the outside. The overall feel of the room was good. Felt comforting and the A/C worked which is always a relief. Hotel was noisy at night but not for very long. THe security guard did a good job of making sure anyone that was up and running around were quiet. Atleast I saw him talk to people several times about it.
Free cookies every evening was a nice touch as well.
I did observe a gentlemen that had an issue with the front desk and the hotel manager (I believe it was the hotel manager) was very polite and understanding to the customers request. He went out of his way for this customer which was a nice thing to see. The hotel staff was accomedating to most requests and always very polite.
Bad - Breakfast was rough. Due to this being the Seaworld location there were a ton of kids. Most of the time I would eat around 645AM so there was no one down there but on the weekend I tried to eat around 830 and there was no chance. Super crowded, completely out of food, etc. As a result I did find a nice place up in Del Mar to eat at instead. Parking got crowded because people would bring their SUVs and truck in the little garage. Management should defintiely consider not allowing them to park in the garage. Sedans and compact only would have made a huge differenence espcially on the nights it was fully booked. The TV and Internet would gain and loose signals constantly throughout the evening. Made it difficult to complete any work at the hotel. Very frustarting. Staff just noted it would be reset and try again in 20 minutes. This is out of the hotels control but the fireworks can be heard and felt every night around 9:45PM from Seaworld. Not a big deal but will startle you the first couple nights and other people in the hotel do freak out a bit.
Ugly - Bathroom was not clean. Had several long black hairs stuck to the shower curtain which grossed me out. I am a male with short hair so it was definitely not mine. I had the towels replaced 3 times in the morning becuase their were lipstick stains, make-up, and other brown stains on the towels. I cycled through them until I found a clean one which I used for the remainder of the stay. My sheets had some weird stain on it which I found a couple days in so I had them replaced and the comforter had several crusted boogers on it which made me sick to think about so I slept with just the clean sheet.
Hope this review helps management and guests of the hotel. IHG is better than this hotel. I do understand it was summer so the price hike was reasonable but the value was just not there. Staff was very friendly which is consitent with IHG but the building was a stretch.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Pull out sofa in room and great location
We booked this room because there were 3 of us traveling and it actually had a pull out sofa so we could each have our own bed. Location is convenient to attractions and airport. Parking is tight and pool is small but everything else was great.

The staff is very friendly and attentive. When my dad made a request to the maid service to bring in more towels when they go to clean our room, they did. When the tv signal went out, I called front desk

The staff was friendly and the room was nice. I was going to seaworld the next day and the hotel was close. The breakfast was tasty.

Staff was so friendly we felt at home! The room and service never left you wanting for anything,,,even with three small kids!

Friendly Staff, Clean Rooms, Close to The Beach. Breakfast was average but what can you expect?
