Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Turtlepond Great Location for airport & Old Town
We walked to Blue Water for great seafood, but the hotel will drive and pick you up from Old Town, airport and a bunch of other places. It's right off the highway but we didn't hear the traffic. I loved the hot tub. Otherwise it was predictably like most Holiday Inn Express Holidays which is a good thing.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Teddyrose45 Comfy for the price
I stayed for business, and staff were pleasant to be around and willing to help me with any request I had. I used the shuttle, and the drivers were nice and recommended places to go. I loved the free parking in their underground parking garage. It beats having to pay for parking at other hotels in the area. I wish the selection for breakfast was better. Food was okay, not great and the hallways were stuffy. Other than that, I have nothing else to say. I'd consider coming back for a leisure stay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Reggieoh Not what I expected....
I stayed here for a few days as a birthday trip (Aug 15) and although it wasn't what I expected, I was not disappointed. I did not realize there would really be no place to go for walks from the Hotel but they covered that with their shuttle service. The shuttle will pick you up from the airport, take you to the zoo, the tour of old town and the restaurant district where you can eat out. The Hotel does not have a restaurant on site nor is it near one. There is a room off the lobby where you can purchase sandwiches, frozen food, chips etc. My room was small with absolutely every inch of floor space taken up by a piece of furniture. I would suggest they remove the floor lamp. It's huge and not necessary. There is plenty of lighting in the room without it. It would give you a spot to put the luggage rack. You have to leave the luggage rack in the closet. It's cumbersome since the luggage rack itself is small. The Hotel itself is older but well kept and remodelled. There is no smoking inside the Hotel but there is a large patio area where you can smoke. Should also say the hotel is conveniently located right off the highway which is loud when sitting outside but I heard none of it inside. When I booked my stay I compared prices and found by going directly to the hotel site since I only wanted a single queen bed I saved about 25-30 dollars per night. I'd highly recommend The Holiday Inn Express Old Town to anyone who if "carless" doesn't mind taking a shuttle to see the sites.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by bee.gee Caring staff made us feel appreciated!
From the moment I checked in, late at night, Art the night auditor was very polite. His genuine and refreshing attitude almost made me forget how tired I was from our long drive. The check in process was quick and efficient, and I even got some water and snacks for being an IHG rewards club member. He also told me that the crib I'd requested at booking had been placed in our room. Wow!
Everyone we encountered always greeted us with a smile, and Steven always made sure to say hello whenever I saw him in the hallways. The front desk staff was always polite except for one blonde lady who seemed to be in a bad mood all the time.
The breakfast was the usual from Holiday Inn but always at a good quality. Dolores the breakfast attendant was always attentive to our needs and made conversation with us every morning.
Our room attendant, Aaya is a gem!! Even when I asked for towels and light touch service, she made sure that our room was spotless, especially since we had a toddler with us. She seemed very caring and loved to play with our son, she truly made us feel at home and cared for. On our last day, the room attendant Faeza was also very nice when I asked for some extra things.
I felt like as If I'd been living there for weeks. I honestly can't wait to book our next vacation at this hotel! :)

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by drumrbear Good spot for MCRD graduation
Our trip to San Diego was to watch my nephew graduate from the U.S. Marine Corps and we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Old Town. Nit had some of the best rates in the area and offered shuttle service to the airport, MCRD and Old Town shopping area. We used these shuttle services extensively since we didn't rent a car, so a big plus there. Our room was situated right above busy I-5, but the traffic noise was not bothersome. It also overlooked the airport and the MCRD, which was kind of a neat view. The room was small but accommodating with a comfy bed, big TV, fridge, microwave and desk. The bathroom was clean and the room smelled fresh. A hot breakfast awaited us both days on our stay and had good choices. My wife even remarked about serving turkey sausage. The staff were friendly and helpful, even providing recommendations for shopping and dining in Old Town. I always look for Holiday Inn Express hotels on my travels and this one did not disappoint! I recommend it if coming to San Diego for visiting the MCRD or Old Town.
