A big thank you for a very comfortable and quiet night. Excellent staff who immediately sorted out the tv not working in our room. No fuss just moved us to another room. Will definitely use HIE in the future.

This was our second time visiting this holiday inn, and it didn't disappoint, clean rooms, friendly staff and a nice lounge area for chilling out after a long day. Thankfully I had decent 3g coverage with o2 as there was no free wifi. The rooms had air conditioning which was welcomed in the hot weather, the rooms were clean and spacious(double room) and it was nice to have a decent shower where the water actually showered you and not dribble like some cheap hotels. Breakfast buffet offered a really good selection from fruit, cereal to hot food however the vegetarian sausages were refilled using the same utensils as the meat ones which marred the complete experience and meant missing out on them.
Overall I would go back again as the wifi isn't a massive miss and I would hope the comments regarding vegetarian food handling was observed as the hotel has so many other positives.

I regularly stay in HIE and you know what to expect. Handy location, comfort without too many frills and good value for money. It was the first time I stayed at Walsall and it was pretty much as I expected apart from one of the staff members. I usually find HIE staff very friendly and helpful, much more so than other chains in this range. When I arrived at Walsall I was met with a disinterested, downright rude woman on reception. I was quite taken aback by her attitude. No eye contact, mumbling "y'oright?". She managed to give me a room number, I had to ask about meal availability and she didn't mention internet access. I am a priority club member but not bothered whether this is acknowledged as long as I get my access code. I didn't realise she hadn't given it to me till some time later. I had to return to reception and ask a more helpful person for it. The woman was still at reception and heard this exchange, but didn't apologise for her oversight, she just slunk off into the office area. Very poor. It would put me off going back to this hotel, I don't expect any more than politeness but on this occasion was disappointed.

friendly welcome my 2nd visit and both times treated well as a member and given water and biscuits which I have not received anywhere else . .Also given a voucher for 50%of the bar.
The breakfast was OK but the sausages were terrible and the toaster not working well

We make a trip to Wolverhampton once a year and have stopped at this Holiday Inn Express for the last 4. The staff, hotel and location has suited us down to the ground, relaxing, friendly and convenient. However when we arrived on Friday evening 26th the receptionist who booked us in was surly, abrupt and positively unpleasant, so unlike all our previous visits and all the other staff. Normally the receptionists are very engaging, helpful and obliging. I think this particular member of staff needs some training. Otherwise we were very satisfied and will be back again.

There was a rather noisy disturbance in the hotel on the night that I stayed involving other guests & the police were called. I appreciate the hotel can't stop or help this, but I was very disappointed that there was no apology at checkout for what was a rather disturbing event!

All in all a good stay. Only wish could get room cooler. They didn't offer upgrade, which surprised me as an elite member. Maybe next time?

TV channels were not working most of the evening and no real apology from Receptionist.
Chargeable Wi Fi depending on your priority club level, does not inspire me to stay more and then improve my level!
Surely decent Hotel chains should not charge for Wi Fi these days?
Room comfortable, typical Holiday Inn Express.

We had recently stayed at HIE Leith and were really pleased with the hotel and the staff so we decided to book again in Walsall. On arrival we were met by the receptionist who didn't even welcome us or even smile. Just asked for the name of the booking. Not the best start! The room however was again perfect for us as a family and was spotlessly clean apart from the toilet seat which may have been clean but was stained yellow. This was a shame as the rest of the bathroom was spotless so why not just replace the dirty looking toilet seat? For our first night we had quite a bit of noise as there was a group of young boys in the room opposite who were in and out of their room and running in the corridors till about 10pm. We just think that a family could have been better placed within the hotel knowing what other guests were on that floor. The second night was fine though with no noise at all.
The breakfast again was great, although we did notice the apples on the display the first morning were past their best, these however had been replaced by the second morning.
When we checked out it was the same receptionist, she didn't again greet us, smile or ask about our stay. She just asked for our room number we didn't even get a goodbye! I must say though the rest of the staff were fantastic.
As a whole we did enjoy our stay again and we will be booking with HIE again as the rooms and hotel are perfect for the family.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst using it as a base to visit Birmingham as it was easily accessible from the motorway. Having never stayed in Holiday Inn Express hotels before I had reservations about what to expect however I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and well kept. The bathroom was clean and the shower was a good size. When we booked we were told the hotel had free wi-fi however upon arrival we were told this was not the case and the young chap who dealt with us said we would have to pay for the use of the internet in the hotel. Upon arrival in our room we found the TV not to be working either and as we had travelled with a 12 year old not having any TV or internet was going to prove very popular with her. I had to speak to staff twice more to get any information about the TV. I just kept getting told 'we don't know what is wrong with it and don't know how long it will be off for' On the 3rd time of asking however the lady on reception agreed to provide us 24 hours of wi-fi as a goodwill gesture so my daughter could at least go in the internet in our room.
Whilst I appreciate the breakfasts are included in the price of the room I do believe the lack of cooked ingredients let the hotel down a little. The only options were scrambled egg (which tasted powdery), sausage and beans. Offering bacon and different types of eggs would be an improvement and on par with hotels in a similar price range.
The only other issue was the heat in the room, the temperature during our stay reached the high 20s and our room was way too warm to be comfortable in. The room had air conditioning however I don't know whether it worked or not as it never cooled the room any and due to the hotels proximity to the motorway (right next to it) made having the window open an issue due to the noise.
Generally speaking though I can't really fault the hotel, it is very clean and well kept, the staff are polite, courteous and generally very friendly.
If you are looking for somewhere clean and comfortable to stay and don't mind limited breakfast options then this hotel would certainly suit your needs

Very nice hotel, perfect for an overnight stay.
The experience was ruined after the Fire alarms going off at 4am. Everyone had to evacuate to then be told it was a false alarm.
At 4:30am the fire alarm went off again and was cancelled quickly after.
It then went off again at 5:00am.
Receptionist very helpful.

We found the young lady who checked us in and checked us out to be very arrogant. Her name was Shavaughn she didn't have a name badge I had to ask her name. We went to the bar for a drink she knew we were there, and could have easily served us, or at the very least apologise for our wait and that she would get the duty manager to help us but chose to do nothing for between ten and fifteen minutes.
On the other hand I cannot praise the duty manager enough we were allocated a room on the ground floor I asked if she had one higher and she even took me to see the only one she had available on the second floor to see if I preferred it before doing more paperwork, She was very pleasant and couldn't do enough for you.

reception staff are very welcoming and willing to help. The domestic staff always said good morining to us too when we met them in the corridors. Great comfortable beds and rooms are to a high standard.

Overall this hotel will meet most peoples requirements. The hotel is clean, easily accessible and provides all the facilities most people require for an overnight stay. The reception staff seemed a bit glum but otherwise everything was good, oh except for the egg at breakfast...not sure what thats made of :)

Cannot fault the hotel for comfort and cleanliness, we had one out of three nights in which a group of guests were being a nuisance and noisy for all the other guests. The staff/security dealt with this problem ASAP and we had no more disturbance. We have stayed here for the last four years and hope to return in the future.
Great staff through out, very friendly and helpful, excellent.

I walked into the lobby desk, the receptionist, never raises the head, after a minute's wait she mumbled, "what can I do for you", Then I say so .. so.. and I get the room key. getting into the room. You need a real hard push to open the door. I get two beds, instead of the one bed room asked, there is no ironing board too, old tv, some extremely low priced tea/coffe packets. The bed looked like an old one.
I call up the receptionist for the above things and she says we do not have a a single bed room, ironing stuff, you come to the reception, and for internet also, you come to reception and I will tell you, I get there and I got all these. But cannot login at the room for internet, but this time another person at the desk helped and the person even came to the room to fix it.
The quality of the soap etc. are poor. Otherwise stay is OK. If you do not get anywhere else then probably this hotel is an option

Third year in a row that we've stayed here, as it's a good halfway stopover to the Lake District and it's great value because we book in advance. First time we stayed we were kept awake by some drunken argument outside, which is not the fault of the hotel. However, the last two years we've asked for rooms at the back of the hotel to avoid any potential noise from people and have been accommodated. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. The breakfast choice is varied - cereals, toast, croissants, fruit, cheese, beans, scrambled eggs and sausages.
Haven't had an evening meal there as yet because it's not been needed.
We go to the lakes each year so we will be back.

I arrived at approximately 11am and asked the staff if it possible for me to check in. I was advised that none of the rooms were clean and thereofre i would need to come back.
During the time i made the booking i made a specific request to check in early and the staff said it shouldn't be a probelm.
My husband and i then came back at 1pm to check in - the lady at the front desk Tracey, was extremely rude. She advised check-in for priority members was at 2pm and normal check in was at 4pm. You could search my records and see i have stayed in many many holiday inn and holiday inn express hotels over the years and i have never heard or read anything like this before. She was extremely rude when i questioned the logic behind this, as i hadn't seen anything on the website nor in my email confirmation. At which point she stormed off and leaving me hanging. Tracey then came back and started flicking through the records, for 10mins we were unaware of what was happening, by this time it was 1:30.
Another member of staff came to deal with us, and Tracye started talking to them about our check-in and that it was possible, again leaving us hanging and humiliated. This then took another 10 mins at which point my husband was extremely annoyed and frustrated, never in our experience have we seen anything like this before. We then asked to speak to the manager and were finally able to check in.
The attitude, rudeness and sheer disgusting behaviour of your staff was outrageous and unacceptable. For a hotel with such a prominent presence i am shocked at the lack of customer service displayed. Subsequently, my husband has also written an email to Head Office.
If in doubt, i am sure everything was recorded on the cameras you have in your hotel.
Unfortunately, we will not be staying at another Holiday Inn or Express again due to the experience. For staff that has no values and cannot put their customers first or treat them with respect, we have no room for giving them our business.
I look forward to hearing back from you and the appropriate steps you will be taking place.
