Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff The room was small and only had a chair for my wife and the other chair was for the desk, not that comfortable. A couch would have been better for 2 people. I was having a quick nap and was awakened. Thought my wife went for a shower by the noise I was hearing but it was the unit beside ours with the shower on. Same thing the following evening. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great Customer Service... but.... Great staff and b'fast. Only issue I had was the mattresses. They seem to be pretty old and have a soft spot in the middle of the bed. Needless to say it was hard to get a good night's sleep on them so I was not up to perform "brain surgery" the next day! I hope they replace them if needed but yet again it could be that I just had bad luck and got a room with bad mattresses. January 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rooms for guests with pets When staying in pet friendly hotels , I always wondered if all the rooms potentially had had a pet in the room previously. This hotel in particular has rooms allocated for travelers with pets. When traveling with our mini schnauzer, I don't mind staying in a room where pets have been before, but when traveling without her, I want a Pet-free room. Based on this hotels policy to call ahead to confirm an allocated room is available, I would stay here again, with or without my pet. The room was extremely clean, no pet odors, and convenient to the side door to take her to a clean designated area for her business. They even provided god lighting and bags to clean up after her. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Care for the Environment We stay in Holiday Inn Express hotels often. They are overall very good--clean, comfortable, a good value. However, some make an attempt to be "Green," but they don't seem to really get the concept. It seems that many have signs about reusing towels--and this is very good--but they use Styrofoam plates, cups, etc. in the rooms and at breakfast. We are very environmentally conscious, and Styrofoam is AWFUL. They are terrible for the environment. Please use biodegradable #Paper!# products. Yes, they are a bit more expensive; but many of your customers care about such things and consider them work the effort. Also, use paper products #toilet paper, paper towels, etc.# made from recycled paper. We compliment you on using Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs--VERY good for the environment and cut down on energy costs. Also, besides Splenda/Equal/etc. you should have sugar free syrups and jellies. MANY people are diabetic, and they need these sugar-free products. Think of the environment and your customers #There are many of us!# that care about these things and that choose hotels that do. The room was clean and everything worked. My only comment on the negative side was the room temperature fan which kept going off and on during the night, but this seems to happen in every hotel room I stay in which has these fans. You'd think someone would invent a noiseless fan or another heating-cooling system. November 14, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good - except for one detail I travel for work and stay at least in 4 hotels per month, all over Virginia. I don't travel to Abingdon often, this was my second time ever. But it was also my second time at this hotel. I usually like the brand and try to stay there. The hotel was as good as I expected it to be, but I left very disappointed. This specific weekend, daylight saving time ended (November 4th). Because I was traveling for work and had somewhere I needed to be, I requested a wake-up call for 7am - I even mentioned the saving time ending and that this was why I was requesting it. On Sunday, November 5th, I was awaken at 6am by the wake-up call. I had a very full day ahead of me - working from 8:30am to 3:00pm and driving for 7 hours after that to get home. Being awaken 1 hour earlier did not make my day any better, and it made me very upset that I unnecessarily woke 1h earlier than I had to because of a mistake in a service that is offered at the hotel. Besides that I have no complains - but I will not be using the courtesy wake-up call service anymore. November 6, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Surprised in Abingdon Expecting mediocrity? Go by this hotel. The front desk was ready for us gave us the room reserved.. The breakfast offered a variety of food despite being challenged by a tour group who had decided to to sit in the dining area while waiting for their bus causing the other guests seating problems. We are treated like family, and enjoy the staff, the accomodations, the nicecities of the place. It is a most pleasant experience for us and we always look forward to being there and appreciate the friendliness and personality of the Inn and those who care for us! October 23, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Old Property This property has not kept up with modernization like other Holiday Inn Expresses. Hallways had a dark feeling to them. No cookies offered(they did have apples, though). The exterior of the property is old and dated compared to the hotel next door. It appeared much more inviting than this Holiday Inn Express.. I kept looking at the signage because I thought that I had gone into that hotel by mistake(properties that I never consider staying). Rooms are very expensive and small. Also the hotel is next to the interstate and you hear every car and truck that passes on the interstate. I will find another hotel the next time in the area. October 18, 2013

The lighting in the bathroom was exceptionally good. Check-in did not go smoothly; we were sent to a room where maintenance was clearly on-going & had to return to the lobby for a change of rooms. Once settled, we found the room to be clean, but quite worn-looking. October 12, 2013

The front desk attendant are always cheerful, professional, and happy to see me again. The internet connection is slow. This can be frustrating at times when trying to get work done. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Home Away From Home Absolutely outstanding...from check in to check out. The staff could not have been more helpful, friendly or accommodating. Danny Owen went out of his way to make my wife's 60th birthday trip memorable all the way from our fantastic room to the fruit basket he had placed in our room for her birthday. Our air conditioning was not up to par and Larry Rushing not only had it repaired immediately he had it completely replaced. What a great customer service coup. Finally the breakfast was hot, plentiful and had plenty of choices. Jane and Vivian kept all the food trays full, the coffee was plentiful and the company outstanding. The entire staff went out of their way to be more then accommodating...they were just "down home friendly" and a joy to be around..Thanks again for an outstanding weekend October 3, 2013
