Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Holiday Inn Express Experience I have had As a Platinum IHG member and frequent traveler, I always stay at a Holiday Inn Expresses whenever I get the chance. This is by far the worst experience I have had. For one thing, they charge more than other Expresses I have stayed at, and yet their lobby, fitness center, and other public areas are being renovated (and smell like it). The renovation is one thing, but the TV in my room worked at a crawling speed, and the iron and hair dryer didn't work at all. I would recommend not staying here until they have the renovation finished and get their ducks in a row. I definitely wont be staying there anytime soon. May 2, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Express - Yes Holiday Inn rarely disappoints and this visit was no different however, I'm thankful I was able to get a king suite room as the overall size of the room was still a bit more cramped than I expected for just myself, husband and child. All in all though, check-in, services offered, cleanliness and overall stay were quite amenable and I would stay again. They were under renovations and I appreciated the call-ahead warning about this (though it maybe should have been a few days sooner in case I wanted to re-book). I'm also glad there is a pool and hot tub as it give kids something to do and I don't know why all hotels don't have them. I noted was breakfast did not include much fruit options - only bananas, which I thought was strange; and there is only one elevator which is slow running. Thanks! April 30, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Overpriced and uncomfortable There are 3 or 4 more Holiday Inns within 10-15 miles of this location. They all cost less and are nicer. They put in new beds. I sit on the side of one and only my toes touch the floor. I am 6 feet tall. I finish breakfast and ask where is the restroom before I check out and hit the road? None on the ground floor. Ride the elevator back up and walk to your room at the opposite end of the hotel. Be real careful turning the water off on the wash basin. You can pinch your hand in the new faucets very easily. The wonderful morning cinimon rolls I always enjoy- dried out and stale. All and all NOT a good experience. April 8, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel not acceptable As you may know the HIE in Ankeny is undergoing renovation. Our room 218 was unfinished with exposed plywood and we were not extended advance knowledge of the condition. The heating system was a real problem, I was awakened every time it operated. The staff checking in was friendly enough except when just dropping off my room keys. The manager was having an informal meeting and I had to wait for her to stop to just drop off my keys. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I always enjoy staying at Holiday Inn Express motels! I want to complaine about NOT having my 5:30 AM wake-up call on Friday morning! I was not able to wash my hair nor do my family business on my laptop because of my tardiness in getting ready for my 7:15 AM ride to my meeting. I also was not able to eat breakfast becase of the shortage of time. I did discuss this with the front desk as I was checking out Friday morning, but this was not her fault. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice place / Had higher expectations. Overall, good experience, although the hotel was under remodel. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Wifi didn't seem to work, and parking was limited due to remodel equipment onsite. Had to park on the street. Water in shower and sink was tepid at best and staff stated it may be due to the remodel. Exercise bike worn out and seat didn't work right. No happy hour or evening amenities besides a cookie at the counter. Staff was friendly. I would stay here again after the remodel to see if some of the previously stated issues improve. March 9, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Did you remember where we parked? The property is very clean with comfortable rooms. The location was well sought out, but poorly planned. For the size of the hotel and maximum occupancy rate, the amount of parking places available was extremely limited. I would go to guess that if the hotel was half full, it still wouldn't be able to handle parking requirements for its' guest. This frustration is multiplied when you are talking about bad weather, and a trek is needed to get from your parking spot to the front doors. Solve this and you have yourself a well rated hotel. Jen was so nice and great to work with, the hotel was clean and warm, and I got to stay in one of the newly remodeled rooms, which was very nice. Most of the time when staying in hotels I hear random noises from other rooms (doors closing, toilets flushing, water running) I didn't hear anything the night I stayed at the Express. I walked over to the restaurant next door for dinner, so I didn't have to move my car again! When I got back to the room I realized I didn't have a toothbrush, and Jen happily brought one up to my room for me! Thank you for the great customer service! February 24, 2014

The rooms and new furniture are really nice, but the hallway colors were horrible. Didn't match the rest of the décor of the remodel. The staff were wonderful and would definitely stay here again. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Honest! Hayley made us feel so welcome as Priority Club members even though we came in with no advanced reservation this time. She explained the status of the remodeling project and assured us we should not be disturbed by the assembling of new furniture for the guest rooms. She was also able to upgrade our room, and we so enjoyed the jacuzzi! Anel is the best housekeeper ever! I forgot an item of value, and she had it turned in to the office almost before we were down the road any distance. I will be eternally grateful to her for her honesty! I hope I will be back to this hotel sometime in the future to thank her in person. January 19, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK Being Platinum Elite members we are usually given waters & snacks of some sort but this hotel does nothing. It was very clean but otherwise just average. Might consider a competitor next time we are in the area, there are many IHG hotels in the area that are better. Before booking they should tell you that they are remodeling & the pool is closed, we didn't care but families with children might. December 24, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing Staff Over Thanksgiving weekend, I was in Ankeny with my boyfriend for my best friend's wedding. If it wasn't for Jennifer (who I believe is the Manager of the Hotel) I would not have made the wedding in time. I called the cab company in town and gave them a two hour notice for a pick-up.Two hours and twenty minutes later and several calls to the cab company (by hotel staff) - NO CAB - just the "the cab is on its way." It came to the point where we only had 20 minutes before the wedding started. This was when Jennifer volunteered to drive us to the wedding in her own car. I could not have been more surprise and grateful for her generosity. THANK YOU, JENNIFER!!! December 11, 2013

But, when I called, the gal helping me said she would check to see if she could re-arrange things to accommodate our 2nd night request. I received a personal call later that day with good news and we were able to stay 2 nights. Room was very clean and quiet. Comfortable bed and great service. October 31, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay The Holiday inn Express, is very nice. I stayed for 2 days on business. The hotel is clean and accessible by interstate. The property is clean and well maintained, the staff is exceptional, friendly and helpful. The internet connection is one of the best I have experienced. There are restaurants within a mile, Outback is across the parking lot. Should I need to say in Des Moines I will make this location my stay point. October 21, 2013

We have come to expect (and have never been disappointed) with our stay there! The rooms are always clean & comfy and the staff always friendly and make us feel "welcomed back"! Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Excssive UPS charge I accidently left some paperwork in my room after a two night stay. I called the hotel when I realized my mistake. I was first told that housekeeping did not find anything in my room. I asked the front desk to check and they did find the paperwork in the top chest drawer. They kindly agreed to send the left behind items to my home in NW Iowa. The package was sent UPS ground and the weight was 5 lbs. They charged me $21.85 to send the items. This charge was excessive and outrageous. I am a platinum member and would have welcomed a reasonable charge. This hotel will not receive my business going forward. September 10, 2013

Not only were there very limited choices, but they kept running out of things. My daughter's soccer team stayed here and they kept having to come and restock all of the breakfast options and they weren't real timely about it. Also, the garbage can in the eating area was always overflowing. The juice maker didn't work at all the first day. One of the reasons we stayed was for the breakfast and it certainly didn't live up to our expectations. August 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thank you for a wonderful stay! My son and I were in town for the Iowa State fair. The hotel price was fair, given the event, and the accommodations were great. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the towels were plentiful, and the complimentary breakfast was hot with many options! The property was clean and safe. The pool was a lot of fun, and my son enjoyed it . . . for two straight hours before we checked out!! The young lady at the desk, Daniele, was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME with her assistance with the event venue (we were from out of town and had no clue) and even remembered us the next day to ask how my son enjoyed his first concert the night before. Should I be back in the Des Moines area, I know where I am staying!!! August 22, 2013
