Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 good stay in barcelona
i stayed in barcelona for 5 nights and chose holiday in express for my stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The staf were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel was a bit far from the center but thanks to the good metro network spread in barcelona in which we were able to get there in no time using the Ilcuna metro station which is a 5 min walk down from the hotel. One poor thing we experienced is the variety of breakfast items as we got bored with it real quick. But everything else is great. I also got free wireless during my entire stay as a platinum member.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HahaKfk Quiet area
The hotel is quite far away from downtown but in a quiet area, not far from subway. Breakfast needs more varieties and choices. The bath room needs to have some sort of rope for guests to hang their cloth to dry after washing.

We stayed here for a night before a cruise. Very helpful staff, nice room and great breakfast choice. Bonus that there's a taxi stand just outside the hotel for our taxi to the port. We took the Metro from the station a block away to Catalunya Square. The Metro is very clean, cheap and frequent so dont let it put you off booking just because it's not next to Las Ramblas. Would recommend this hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by EdZeee Nice place to stay and close to the beach
Excellent location for local restaurants and a simple walk to the beach. They let us check in early which was great since we landed at 0830 so we had time to relax. The "family" room is still very small. It is a standard room with a sofa bed, so that really shrinks your moving around your suitcases space.
The A/C was iffy and it took them 2 of the 4 days to get it to cool off the room.
Lots of choices to eat and like I said the beach is close. Also close to the tourist bus. They will sell you the tickets at the hotel so it is very easy to see the city. Only 20 minutes to the Cruise Port so it is a great place to layover before or after your cruise.
The breakfast is GREAT, lots of choices and the staff really works hard to make it nice.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Micky68 Great value city break
Initially sceptical about the location, we found this hotel to be conveniently located to all public transport links into the city centre and attractions and only one street from the alternative "ramblas" of Poblenou, a busy small community which is thriving in the commercial district.
City 22 represents good value for an overnight stopover or longer city break, Staff are helpful and friendly, room changes managed at arrival with no issues.
Would (and will) stay here again.
Some rooms are tired and need refreshing.

We had an excellant experiance for 2 days before going on a cruise. The food was very good and the front desk offered several suggestions for place to visit, how to get public transportation and a discount. Were pleased with their English language.

Air conditioning did not work properly, several shut downs throughout the night and felt really hot. Answer from staff were only related to apologize, it looks like maintenance is very poor to none.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dave5555 Barcelona - City 22 - review
We choose Holiday Inn express in Barcelona based on my good experience with of this brand in USA.
We were very happy with the double points offer however, comparing with other hotels in Spain, we were not happy with the value for money.
a) The hotel was quite far from the subway station and from the downtown,
b) the hotel reception and elevator are located at 1st floor which require extra slow dedicated elevator or stairs.
c) The WiFi internet is not free and expensive.
d) The room facilities were very basic (less than the US Holiday-Inn) and we did not feel like 3 stars hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by patman2013 Comfortable bed and good location with reasonable price
Stay in this hotel for 2 days before my cruise trip. The location of the hotel is very convenience. 2 minutes walks, you can find a street with full of restaurants . 5 minutes walks to metro and 15 minutes walks go to the nice beach. Walking to the beach is very easy, you can ask the reception. Metro can go to all tourist attraction area Las Ramblas, Sagrada Famillia etc. There is one supermarket very near to the hotel, so i can buy a few bottle of water and wine to the cruise ship. The breakfast is just ok. It is a continental breakfast no egg, no sausage. The coffee is bad, from the coffee machine. You can get a better breakfast just the corner of the hotel within 9 euro.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ford10 Very small rooms, but clean and comfortable
We used points for three nights before a cruise. When we booked the room, I noted that there would be four adults, but when we registered they wanted to charge us an extra 50 euros for an extra person. When we commented that the registration page allowed us to put four people in the room and that we would be calling Holiday Inn, he relented and did not charge us. We loved the fact that there was a grocery shop around the corner where we could buy bottles for wine for 1 euro.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by paula773 Very pleased!
I have recently visited with my two teenage children and we had a room with a double bed and a sofa bed. We were very pleased to see the room - nice and clean with a very good bathroom.
All staff that we came across were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was simple but there was enough choices so that you could eat and start sightseeing with a full stomach :) Every evening we would come back to a very nice looking and even cleaner room. The cleaning staff would even tidy up all the bits and pieces we would leave on the table, etc. (e.g. lining up all the cosmetics :))
The view form our window wasn't nice (rooftops of buildings around) but it didn't matter - as long as you are not coming abroad to stay in the hotel all the time I certainly recommend this hotel - very good value for your money!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MELanne Good stay
We had a pleasant stay. First impressions from the exterior were not that good, but inside the hotel was fine. Breakfast was chaotic, not enough space and tables, however much of the chaos was down to the guest creating an unnecessary queue .

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Robins2 Good value overall
Stayed for two nights Monday to Wednesday late April. Our second visit to this property. Overall I felt that we had received value for money.
The location is in an area slowly being redeveloped, but it has a selection of lovely bars, restaurants and shops just a few minutes walk. Similarly the metro is no more than 5 minutes walk and a 10 minute journey gets you into the city centre for 2 euro. The seafront is about 15 minutes walk along a lovely Ramblas.
We found the staff warm and welcoming. They were helpful in recommending tours as well as ordering taxis. It cost roughly 10 euro to the city centre and 20 euro to the cruiseport.
Our room was clean and of the typical Express brand. Flatscreen Tv, bath and shower, aircon, coffee making facilities and a comfortable bed. Space is tight if you have lots of luggage and the storage space for hanging clothes very limited. There is no inroom safe.
The one area where we were very disappointed was the breakfast service. Normally you can get a decent breakfast at an Express and I have stayed in this brand all over Europe. However this was a scrum, crowded, chaotic, and lacking any organisation.
Both mornings we simply gave up and went out for something to eat. It felt like a school cafeteria and totally unwelcoming. This really does need to be given some thought.
Although recognised for our Priority Club status nothing was offered to us.
That aside we still enjoyed our stay and considered the price paid good value.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by FltAtt6 Average Hotel...Good location
Hotel was in great location- a few blocks from the beach and the downtown. The room fit all 4 of us comfortably, although the mattresses were hard as rocks! Awesome shower- lots of water pressure!
The breakfast was not what Americans would expect. There was a LONG line and NO hot foods. Felt like we were in a college dorm. If we stay there again we will go out for breakfast!
Staff was very friendly and they stored our bags until our room was ready. 30Euro cab ride from BCN airport and 20Euros to the port where our cruise departed.
Since we used points we felt it was a good deal but if we had paid for our stay I think we would have been disappointed.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ricky123456789 comfortable room, good breakfast
I stayed in this hotel with my wife for 5 nights in April 2013. I read reviews, which I think do not make justice to the hotel
The room was nice, large, very comfortable with all amenities and was newly decorated.
The breakfast was good with a lot of choices in the buffet.
The staff was knowledgeable, fluent in English and helpful
It is very near the metro station and only 4 metro stations from the center of the city
Our experience was good.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by biff0331 Trip to Barcelona
I don't do these things until I realized that I too rely on experiences of other travelers. This hotel has a great staff, very helpful, we are from Texas and our Spanish is neither great nor proper but the staff was able to help in both English and Spanish. We did not get the breakfast because we did not pay in advance (when we made the reservation# and a traveler post mentioned that there were many places to eat. They were correct, we found a great place near the hotel the food was plentiful and inexpensive. The hotel was located near a metro line #Yellow) and there are lots of places to eat located near this hotel. If you are traveling with just another person the rooms are very nice. We had four people, two adults and two children, the hotel prepared our room in accordance with our request, unfortunately this left very little space for all four to maneuver in. We did not spend a lot of time in the room so this was not a major issue. I mention this only because if you are traveling with a family of four or more you might want to look at two or more rooms. Again, I would deal with the space issue because of the price and location, not to mention the staff. The only other challenge was parking; if you are hiring a car please verify the parking at the hotel. I did not see any hotel parking but there might have been. We found a free spot about a three blocks away and did not move the car till we left to Madrid. The taxis and metro are excellent. I read other reviews about the staff and I have to say they were wonderful and friendly, offering advice that was well taken.
Bottom line best place for price and location.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pepi73 Nice place, great location
Clean room, very helpful and friendly stuff, a very good location for sightseeing. The breakfast is not the healthiest, there's a great variety of food but a lack of fruits and vegetables. The rooms are comfy enough. Overall, I would recommend a reservation in the hotel if you aren't seeking luxury but just a nice play to stay and eat. :)

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by thestargoon Overall nice but severely missing free WIFI
We enjoyed our stay in this hotel for 4 nights, the room was nice and clean, the breakfast was pretty good and the staff made a proper service and had an answer for every question. The only thing that was a bit poor was the missing free wifi, i think it was about 14€ for 24 hours. You also could go online via the PCs standing at the reception, but there you had to pay 2€ for 15 minutes/ 3€ for 30 minutes...I knew from various other holiday inns free wifi, so it was a bad surprise there, especially if you wanna look something up like weather, activities, concerts, something you wanna do in barcelona, or even buy some tickets online (as you should do for crowded entrances like sagrada familia etc).
The location is good, 2 blocks from the next metro station (Llacuna). We had kind of bad luck, so we got a room on the street side, but it wasn't that noisy. Most of the day we were out in the city ;)
Overall the stay was nice! I recommend the hotel.

Barcelona City 22 does not have very much in it's favour. It is very isolated in a run-down part of town and miles from any specific attraction. The hotel comfort is good and reception staff helpful and the breakfast is superb however location is the major disappointment. If you like walking then its a good 20 minute walk to the closest Mall, another 20 minute walk to the Open Top Sightseeing Bus stop however there are some restaurants 5 - 10 minutes walk away. There are no close tourist attractions so be prepared to pay to get anywhere.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by stvnwnd AWFUL Hotel! AVOID!!!
We stayed at this location, and had reserved our room for 4 people prior to arrival. When we arrived (we are from the US), we were informed we would have to book a SECOND room, that 4 people could not stay in the room afterall. This caused us to have to pay for 2 rooms unexpectedly! Our room was in VERY poor condition, walls were plastered, room smelled of sewage, and the hotel itself was in POOR condition! Our handicap room flooded if you took a shower, all of the way into the room and carpet. This occured even with turning the water off and only using it for wetting down and rinsing. Staff was informed from the beginning, and all that was done was housekeeping was sent to mop up the mess. The management and front desk personnel did not even attempt to rectify the situation. The housekeeping staff even commented how bad it was! We had to go without showering for a week and could only wash up from the sink! When the people in the room next door to us took a shower, OUR bathroom would flood! This made it very hard for my disabled husband to use our own bathroom! Additionally the sink did not drain properly. We were VERY disappointed in the quality and conditions of the Holiday Inn brand. Friends who stayed in other local hotels had MUCH nicer and cleaner conditions with paying less money! To top it all off, this location OVERBILLED us by charging for the 4 people and additional nights stating we no-showed! After months of trying to rectify the situation, we still have NOT heard from the hotel directly! I would look elsewhere and have a much more enjoyable experience. This hotel is NOT worth the money. Please see a SAMPLE of photos that were taken during our stay.

When we got to Barcelona we were pleased with the room. If you are going to experience Barcelona and not hibernate in your room this is the place. The room was clean and comfortable, though not large and luxurious. When we checking in the desk agent gave us the best area information I have ever received at check in (I travel a lot). he told us 'it is two blocks from a great street for eating and reveling with good restaurants, a fifteen minute walk to the Mediteranean Sea and a beautiful avenue to stroll or jog along this beautiful body of water. It is also three blocks to the closest Metro Station'. Very valuable information. Stay here.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SouthernGuy Nice hotel complimented by great service
From the time we checked in to the time we checked out, the staff was very nice and pleasant. The front desk staff was always very helpful when we had questions about the city and the area around the hotel. The hotel is a few blocks from the subway and a few blocks from the beach, it is a great location. The breakfast was really nice as well, a lot of variety including cold cut meats, breads and jam, fruit and juice and coffee. The size of the room was a lot larger than we expected also, comparable to the average sized US hotel room. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone staying in the city.
