Difficult to communicate with the hotel staff since hardly anybody speaks English. They are friendly though. August 16, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Successful trip to Beijing The Holiday Inn Express Beijing Dongzhimen was an enjoyable place to stay while visiting the city .Beautiful lobby with a picturesque garden in the back. However, rather odd that you can't access the garden from the lobby.( They really should serve drinks there.) You have to walk out the front door and around to the back. Helpful staff, many of whom spoke some English. Large breakfast buffet with freshly prepared food in a very nice dining room. We found it to be a good location and within walking distance to many shopping locations and restaurants. There was a limited Holiday Inn shuttle available, but we were disappointed that it didn't run on the weekend or evenings when we needed it. Rooms are comfortable and clean. August 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Holiday Inn Express I spent about 30 nights/y in this hotel and my experience have been always good. The facility is outstanding. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. The lobby is very impressive. The hotel staffs are the best - very professional and friendly. The only thing I would like to suggest is to add a small fridge in the room - love to drink some cold stuff in the hot summer. I recommend this hotel to all the business travelers to Beijing. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Started Out on the Wrong Foot, but it Got Better Upon checking into the room, we discovered a KFC cup and a condom wrapper from the previous guests under our bed. Additionally the air conditioning wasn't working properly. After going back and forth with the front desk, we finally moved to another room and were given some fruit as an apology. Second room was fine and no cleanliness issues that we found. Air conditioning still could use improvement, but was better than the first room (although I think this issue is more widespread than just this hotel -- nowhere we went had adequate A/C except the Starbucks about 1/4 mi away). Fitness center was large, but had limited equipment. The massage chairs in the lobby were incredible. The free breakfast was a big win, too. Only reason I can't give this property a "recommend," is due to the cleanliness issue from the first room. While the staff addressed the issue, it makes me wonder how clean the place really is.
