They charge £3 to park (not including it in the rate always irritates me, just like the minority of hotels who exclude VAT).There's a really good - and good value - Indian restaurant/takeaway next door and the hotel staff are happy to lend plates and cutlery to eat in your room. Hotel a little cold, no meals on the Friday night, and bar ran out of beer and glasses, but did not really spoil our stay, just a little dissapointing as stayed there last year and were really impressed, hence our return visit. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Restful overnight stay Although we only stayed one night whilst attending a family event, I would have been happy staying a few nights. The room was spacious, clean and modern with a lovely en suite and excellent power shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not want to go out to eat so decided to try the hotels limited menu. Although the food was basic and took a little while to arrive, it was well presented hot and tasty. A very good experience all round and we will certainly be using Holiday Inn again - very good value for money. November 18, 2014

From the moment we arrived in the convenient secure underground car park and walked into the smart spacious reception area to be greeted by Matthew, we knew this was going to be a pleasant stay. Receptionist Matthew, by the way, is a first class employee with advanced customer service skills and such a friendly personality, whom we had the pleasure to converse with several times during our stay.... Daniel on reception was lovely too! For an Express category hotel this is excellent in every way. It may be on a duel carriageway, but has a warm atmosphere with very friendly knowledgeable staff. The rooms are clean, comfortable, secure and well equipped for all you need for business and social stopovers. We had a very comfortable, clean and quiet room at the rear on floor 4 which had expansive views across Birmingham which enabled us to enjoy several firework displays in the distance! Free Wi-Fi is a bonus and the complimentary breakfast is again good for the price paid, obviously the selection is limited, but this is expected for an Express hotel. We stayed for two nights whilst attending an event at the NEC which is easily accessible by car, as is Birmingham Airport. With regard to evening meals, we ate at the Indian restaurant next door on Friday night, and at the Arden Oak Harvester on Saturday, just a few minutes along the main road by car. The hotel has a bar with good friendly and efficient service. This is definitely the best Holiday Inn Express hotel that we have stayed in up to date, and far exceeds the standards of it's competitors. We will definitely return when next visiting the NEC.
