I would not recommend this hotel if you're not keen on lifts. Guests have no access to the stairs, and you have to ask a member of staff to open the door for you each time you want to walk up and down the stairs. Also please note, the directions on the website are not correct, they say follow signs to Lichfield but Lichfield is not mentioned on the signposts as you drive into the city from M6!

Very nice staff, comfortable room, if a bit functional - but I got exactly what I paid for (in a good way!) and it's very handy for the ICC and NIA. Slightly tricky to find first time round.

The staff at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre always have a smile. Everything was explained fully, we were greeted from the moment we stepped foot in the hotel and the rooms were extremely clean and comfortable.

we stopped at this hotel for w/end with my sister and husband ,both couples enjoyed the hotel, the staff were very pleasant always greeting us with a smile and helpful when we needed any information .Breakfast was good and well organised with plenty of choice available , the bedroom was clean modern well laid out and comfortable beds,only down point lack of opening window, location is good ,would definely stay here again and recomend it to anyone ,hopefully next time the weather will be better

I was in Birmingham for one night. Unfortunately the weather was bad, snow and very cold, however the city is pleasant. The location of the hotel is good, quite near the city center (you can reach in 6/7 min by walking).
The room is clean, relatively large with tea and coffee facilities inside. Free and fast WIFI. Breakfast is included with enough choices however the sweet options are not so much, more suitable for English people. In Italy we are more used to have sweet breakfast and the selection of pastries is not very large.

I enyoyed my 2 night stay and would recommend this hotel in the heart of Birmingham city centre. Very close to Symphony Hall or the Town Hall and ICC. I will stay there again when staying in Birmingham

I recently stayed at the HIE, Birmingham, on arrival I found the receptionist to be rude and abrupt. She asked for my card to take a £25 deposit (which was unnecessary as there were no services at this hotel) then she asked for a copy of my driving licence, I have no idea why.
I have stayed in many hotels whilst traveling with my athlete son, and never have I experienced either of these procedures.
The hotel was prepaid weeks before arrival, there is nothing there to buy, the room wasn't checked before I left so what is the point of the deposit?
The general staff attitude, which by the way was totally different to the customer being served by someone else next to me, was totally unnecessary.

arrived as part of a multiple room booking. had contact with the hotel prior to arrival as we wanted rooms together and to drop bags in early. arrived to find our rooms were ready, so were allowed to check in early (fantastic) but were hit with the news we had to give £25 deposit per room in case of other purchases/mini bar. there was no mention of this previously, and especially irritating because there is no mini bar! we are assuming that it was in fact a security deposit because of being a group...but we would have preffered to have been told the truth, and told prior to arrival. one of the rooms was not next to the others as requested and promised, but upon raising this with reception they swapped rooms no problem. rooms clean and fresh and tidy, comfortable, no problems at all. security at hotel was good, i liked to know that they monitored who was entering at night (guests only). breakfast good, enough choice. cleaners friendly and polite. only real problem was the very rude staff member who told us to shut the room door (we had propped one room door open in morning as we all grouped ready to leave). apparently because of others sleeping...funnily enough we were being quiet, we had all the rooms around it as part of our booking, and it was around 11.30am and checkout was at 12...if anyone was still asleep we would have doing them a favor waking them up! her manner was quite unacceptable to be honest, which was a shame because otherwise it would have been a 5 star visit.

Excellent and friendly service from all staff. Hotel clean and comfortable and in excellent position for visiting centre of Birmingham. Easy to follow walking directions from New Street Station were sent on request. Would recommend and very happy to use again when visiting Birmingham.

We arrived early at the hotel owing to a forcast of heavy snow later that day and were grateful we had done so! The check in was done efficiently, with a smile and with recognition of Priority Club membership and we were pleased to be allowed to go to our room ahead of normal check-in time. Throughout our short stay the staff were always helpful and pleasant.
Our room was very clean and in excellent condition the cleaners had ensured that the bathroom was spotless despite the awful weather conditions outside. The beds were comfortable and had a choice of pillows, either firm or softer, and the room heating was easy to use and effective. The TV was surprisingly the old style (now) cathode ray tube variety whereas most hotels now have flat screen TVs, but it worked fine with a limited selection of channels. Our room was very quiet but the heavy snow may have made it even more so as Birmingham was not buzzing that night!
The breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn Express fayre with a good selection of items but with only the half English Breakfast rather than the full version with bacon, mushrooms etc! There was a good selection of fresh fruit available, however, which was better than in many other hotels. Tables were regularly cleared and cleaned by a very attentive member of staff.
The location of the hotel in central Birmingham is convenient for shopping, the NIA and so on and most are within a short walk. We were given a map and directions to the places we wished to visit by the helpful desk staff. The car park is under the hotel and so the car is under cover and reasonably secure. For the location it was not expensive compared to most city car parks.

We chose this hotel for its location as we wanted to be near the NIA. Great location just a few minutes walk away and not too far from the train station and the centre of Birmingham. Very enjoyable weekend.

Stayed at this Hotel twice now and the central location is ideal for shopping and entertainment.
The Bullring shopping centre is only a short walk away and the NIA is also only a short walk away, if you fancy a meal out try China Town it's only a £4 taxi ride away and well worth a visit.
We found the staff very helpful they even gave us a map so we could find our way around Birmingham.
Rooms are basic but modern and spotless all have adequate storage with tea and coffee facilities in the room and TV with Sky.
Breakfast selection was good with a hot cooked option if required, highly recommended.

The sta y worked out really well for us. Comfortable room, good shower, decent breakfast. we had an excellent offer which included breakfast and parking. The indoor parking was safe and very welcome as it was snowing heavily outside!
One criticism - we could have done with better lighting int the room. We felt it needed more lights as there is no central light. We are in the senior age bracket and found the room quite gloomy. This was a shame as everything else was excellent -particularly helpful staff.

I find this hotel very cozy. It is in the close vicinity to high street and shopping center. There are pubs around it. I stayed in a double room, it also has a sofa bed for kids. Room was spacious and bright with good ventilation. It has got old fationed (picture tube) tele. I expected at least LCD tele. Never mind when it has got sky sports :-)
Staff was well mannered. Lunch and dinner menu was a drawback. Specially when you are struck in a bad weather. It is a kind of set menu to be picked from reception. Not much of a choice in Breakfast menu, but manageable when you are in a hurry on a workday. But you won't appreciate it on weekends.
Overall, it was a good experiance at this hotel. I booked it 21days before so was able got 20% disc.

The room was comfortable - nothing special but it was perfect for an overnight stay and not far away from the venue we were visiting. The front-of-house staff was very helpful. Breakfast was fine even for vegetarians.
My only complain would be that I originally booked for 3 and when I got there I was asked for a supplement for the 3rd person which was not mentioned on the website...

Located on side street this is a modern hotel with up to date rooms which are quiet if you're away from the road side of the building.
The staff are really helpful and nothing seems to be too much trouble, in fact its like staying in a regular Holiday Inn but a bit cheaper. The take away meal options which you order by phone to reception and then collect when ready are a good idea and at under a fiver they're good value.
The only criticisms I would have is that I'm slightly hard of hearing and the TV volume is limited to just below the level I can hear but on balance this is at least good news for other guests! The TV channel selection is very limited, three sports channels is a bit much really as it assumes everyone likes sport. Competitors like Premierinn do better on this front with Freeview rather than Sky limited channel selection.
All in all a relaxing stay and I have done so twice now in a week and will do so again.

The hotel is centrally located, about 10 minutes walk from the shopping area and to the concert hall, indoor arena and Brindley Place. The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable and adequate for an overnight or weekend stay. Breakfast has a small selection but there is plenty to satisfy most customers and provides a good start to the day. Even with the cost of parking, the price is very affordable, particularly for a city centre location.

excellent staff, very helpful. car parking for 24 hours at £12 is very good value for money when you compare other local charges plus the car park is brightly lit and secure and accessed from the hotel.
compare that to other city centre hotels where you are off site and in some dark 'hole' .
Room standard very good and your within 5 mins walking of the city centre.
will definitely stay here again. highly recommend.

I made a mistake in my reservation. I booked for two nights where that only should have been one. Within 24 hours I was able to correct the mistake. I simply changed my reservation on the website. I recieved a confirmation email with the same confirmation number and a new invoice...
Everything looked to be just fine.
When I checked in at the hotel 2 months later, I was told that my creditcard had been charged for the initial two nights and that there was no way that I was going to be reimbursed......
NOT A WAY TO TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS !!!
You can do better than this.
