Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Unimpressive Once we found the entrance to the car park, which involved doubling back on a couple of roundabouts, check in was welcoming and easy, apart from the system rebooting. As a Spire member, I was promised there would be complimentary snacks in the room. Once in the room, we fell about laughing at the small packet of salt and vinegar crisps and stubby bottle of still water on the table that passed as said snack. This was in a twin room, so we had to fight over the bag! Based on Holiday Inn standards, I would expect at least a choice of crisp flavours, still and sparkling water in 500ml bottles, a soft drink and a couple of chocolate bars, especially as the hotel advertised its proximity to Cadbury's world! I know this is an HIExpress, but seriously? The room was a bit tired although generally clean, but there were several big cobwebs on the ceiling. Breakfast was poor. It used exactly the same ingredients as the HIExpress I normally stay at in Portsmouth, but they managed to make it almost inedible. You could have built a house with the pain au chocolate and mini croissants. The fruit was bruised, the egg insipid and when will someone in any HIExpress set a toaster to actually toast first time? Check out was quick, but the staff member appeared bored and inconvenienced by our presence. Overall, very average. November 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn Star City Birmingham The staff could not do more to help and make me welcome. I wanted an extra duvet and information on travelling in the area. They ordered taxis, sorted out my duvet and helped with local area information. Star City is remote and a touch isolated but if you can get a taxi for 6-8 pounds into the city. This hotel had a superb hot shower with fast flowiing water, room was clean and no noise. TV was dated and flickering but I didnt need it. WIFI worked great. Perhaps it needs some slight modernising but for the price and helpfulness of the staff (Gemma and her crew) I cant complain. I reccommend staying in the hotel or travel into the city as star city is limited in function. The restraunts in star city DONT serve alcohol if you want a beer with your meal. I think this is due to religious reasons}? Not sure. November 17, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Reduced scoring/general/other comments Mattress had a squeak and therefore every time I rolled over, I would hear the squeak. Nonetheless, I managed to get some sleep. Evaluation cards in rooms - would be good to provide pencils for completion. No guarantees that the occupants have pens/pencils with them There were two towels for a room that could occupy three people [a double and a single in the same room]. However, there were not sufficient towels to match occupancy if required. No menus available in the room so collected one from front desk. Was advised of reduced menu fare and name of local takeaways - good. Breakfast was included in price but left for early getaway. Perhaps pricing should include opt out for breakfast November 17, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fabulous Friendly staff and Lovely bed We stayed for one night only and the kids loved the spaciousness of the room. It was quite awkward and difficult to find the entrance of the hotel from the road. it should be better signposted. Bed was very comfy and shower was fantastic. Unfortunately, the i/net speed was slow and pretty disappointing.S November 9, 2015
