Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service Arrived at hotel, very pleasant staff. As I was away from home needed to know where was a good place to eat. Was informed by staff that normally they could suggest eating at hotel, but had no kitchen staff, offered me a take away menu. I then had to travel back into Braintree to find somewhere to get an evening meal. It was not far and had a nice meal, but would have preferred to stay in hotel. Staff very good and nothing to much trouble. The room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was good, with a wide choice of foods. November 10, 2013

The beds are comfortable, the rooms are adequately furnished and the shower is good and powerful. The bar food menu is limited (especially if you have to stay often) but there is a new Hungary horse up the road and a Toby carvery is going up on waste land next door - so that will be good! So in short, good value for money, great location for Braintree and Stansted Airport. October 26, 2013

No heating whatsoever, bedside light did not switch off, shower head broken, no draght beer, TV remote did NOT change the chanels, no scrambled eggs in the morning for breakfast, which meant breakfast consisted of sausages and bread!! VERY POOR, complained but nothing even said like "sorry". I have stayed here before and been happy, but this was not a good visit, not sure about stopping there again. The room was clean, that's as good as I can offer. October 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Large room clean great welcome for our dogs I have never been to holiday inn before and was really impressed. The room was big and spacious and the double bed six foot wide. Everything was really clean and smelt nice. We couldn't find the remote control when we arrived but it wasn't a problem as the staff were quick and happy to sort it out. I was so pleased to find a place that allowed dogs. The staff seemed delighted they were there and I wasn't made to feel they were a nuisance at all. For my part I made sure the dogs were well behaved and stayed on their dog beds or dog blankets in the room as I want holiday inn to continue to welcome dogs so I can tour England with my dogs in future! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant staff We booked this hotel because we often use Holiday Inn in the USA where the beds are very comfortable. This was not the case here. We had to change room because the shower head was broken in the first room we were allocated. The woman on the front desk was very helpful. The breakfast was poor. The door to a room near ours looked like somebody had broken in using force. It didn't make us feel we had chosen the right place to stay. We will not be returning. October 12, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Memorable for the wrong reasons The reception staff were very friendly on our arrival, when we checked into our room it had a funny smell and the lock latch was broken off but the lock in the door worked, the tv remote didn't work but overall the rest of the room was fine. We went down for breakfast at about 845 and the breakfast was appalling, the beans, scrambled eggs and sausages looked like they had been sat for hours and were congealed and the containers they were in were very dirty. The toaster wasn't working properly and even on the highest temp it took four journeys through the toaster to develop even a slight brown tint. Hanging above the toasting area were 2 very large cobwebs. The cleanliness in the breakfast area was terrible. The problems in the room could of been forgiven for a budget hotel but the breakfast and lack of hygiene cannot. October 10, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 Worst nights sleep ever I stayed here for one night in October. Check in was east and efficient. Wifi was simple to set up and speedy. Unfortunately my room was above the kitchen. So every time I put my head on the pillow I heard the droning from the refrigeration units. Tried to phone reception at 1:30am to see if they could help. So had to get dressed and go flown to reception. Phone in room didn't work. Hotel was full so couldn't be moved. TV in room didn't work, had no remote control or aerial cable. Shower was Luke warm. Breakfast, the usual Express affair, but very cheap juice. Overall, not good. October 6, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very comfortable hotel with a friendly welcome We stayed here for a family visit and after an initial issue with the first room (ground floor window wouldn't shut), we were moved to the 1st floor and a lovely room with the most comfortable hotel bed I've had! The room we had was immaculate. The staff were very friendly and always helpful. Breakfast was the usual Express breakfast buffet and there was a constant supply of food being bought out. The staff during breakfast time were very rushed off their feet, so trying to find someone to help get fresh cutlery out did take a bit longer than it should have done. This was a very comfortable and incredibly clean hotel. Would stay here again. October 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Place for visiting surrounding area My Wife and I were visiting Essex to see friends from Brentwood, Ingatestone, Chelmsford, Boreham, Witham and Coggleshall. So the hotel was very central for us. The hotel itself was excelilent. Rooms large, clean linen every day Buffet breakfast Good. WiFi Large parking spaces with disabled places. The room was big, clean and comfortable. We watched England in the bar where we had a few beers and dinner. Dinner choices very limited and expensive, We ended up just ordering some chips which were undercooked. Breakfast included in room rate was terrible, Watery scrambled eggs, overcooked rubbery sausages. Ended up just having a cup of coffee from the breakfast "buffet" as it all looked revolting. The restaurant was little more thanh a microwave snack bar, and the choice of breakfast was poor. Will not return here ever August 25, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Sadly Lacking - what a shame Hotel itself is basic but clean and tidy – however it is rather isolated – great location if you have transport but nothing around within walking distance. There was no Internet, TV was old style screen with 5 of the advertised 15 channels not working. Staff were friendly enough but obviously overworked – there was no internet (apparently there was lightning the previous week and they didn’t know what to do???) but having rung down to reception a number of times I eventually had to go down – only to find both staff members stood outside chatting. The next morning one of the same staff members was discussing a previous complaining customer “who just disappeared thank goodness – there’s only so much we can do just two of us” – staffing shortages should not be the customers concern and more importantly staff should not discuss ‘nuisance customers’ in front of similar customers. Breakfast not very impressive – self service – but had to ask a male staff member where the trays were – to which he mumbled something and simply pointed in the general direction. Food selection very basic – ‘3 hot items’ looked very insipid sausage, watery beans and liquid scrambled egg – best left alone thank you. It was a bed for the night but doubt I would choose to stay again with other better options in the area. All in all not one of HI Groups finer establishments. August 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by super staff We were very impressed with our stay at Braintree. The lady who booked our late arrival (10.15pm) was very helpful and friendly. I had e-mailed the day before our stay to ask for extra pillow for my husband as he cannot breathe too well if laying flat, the extra pillows were ready for him and the lady who had found them for us was on reception the next morning. If all your Holiday Express personnel are like the ones at Braintree then you are onto a winner:-) The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning was a God send. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value Arrived at the car park which end could have been a but more pleasant ( gardening etc) Staff who greeted us were very nice, they explained everything , room was very nice, tv could if had a few more channels lol Had a great nite sleep but that could have been down to the drink lol Will defiantly stay again August 2, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet location close to the motorway The hotel is good value for money, but major issue is that Panners Roundabout or Notley Cross is not listed in all navigation systems, (e.g. Ford) and the hotel cannot be seen from the motorway. So you get easily lost. August 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff I have stopped at this hotel on a few occasions and I have to say the staff are some of the best I have encountered. I genuinely like the hotel and the location suits me. To be honest there were a few issues with the rooms I stopped in and I'm one of these people who is not really bothered as long as the room is clean and the staff couldn't have been more helpful The first room I got the key for had a broken shower, the second room I stopped in the air conditioning was broken, the third room was spot on. The hotel lost some of the computer facilities with the recent thunder storms, so they very kindly emailed me the bill. It is a shame that a small minority of people that stop at the hotel cause damage to the hotel rooms and don't report it to the staff. The staff are a credit to the hotel and they should be rewarded by the directors for doing a brilliant job with what seems a very small budget. July 25, 2013

(considering it was quite close to the main A120 road) Had a good night's sleep & the breakfast was adequate for our needs. July 15, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best stay I have stopped at this hotel before and usually I really like the hotel, but this time not so great. I really like the staff and the location is good. I was mortified to find the part of the sink missing, no chance of a shave that morning, also the TV remote had gone missing. I was told that these items were a favourite items to be stolen from the rooms. Two single beds were also a surprise as I had booked a double room. Like I say I like the staff as they are really friendly and genuinely helpful. July 2, 2013

Room was basic but nice, only issue was a fairly critical one in it's cleanliness - very "questionable" stain on the bed spread and hairs in the bed on the otherwise clean sheets. Not exactly the nicest issues but easy to fix. Bed was a bit lumpy but comfortable pillows. TV remote didn't work despite batteries appearing to be working. A little annoying. Would stay there again for the convenience of location and staff were friendly and nice. June 25, 2013
