i attended a conference held at the Mariott Central. The Express was where it said it was. The room had the facilities as advertised. It was clean and well presented. I slept well. I was a little dissapointed in the selctions available for breakfast, but soon got over that. The £15 meal coupon for the nearby Italian restruant was great value. excellent food and service.
very pleased with selection and stay.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by cazzaw Not Nice!!!!
We stayed in this hotel last weekend. From Friday until Sunday.
In my husbands words. The worst 2 nights sleep in a hotel in years.
The Hotel was noisy . We had our 5 year old daughter with us and she couldn't get to sleep until after 10 pm on the first night because of the noise from other inconsiderate guests. The fire alarm went off twice.Once about 7.30/8pm and the second time approx. 1.30/2 am . We were told it was because of other guests not shutting the bathroom door whilst showering!!!! Really? The second night was slightly better, however the air conditioning even though turned off kept making a funny sound. Our daughter work up several times in the night asking for the machine to be turned off..
The breakfast was not good. Even though it is included in the price we would have preferred to have paid for better quality food.
We spoke/ complained to reception about all of our problems on the Saturday and Sunday mornings, however they said that there was nothing they could do. We booked a family room and we were placed on floor no. 2 however they also advised that they also put all of the hen and stag parties on floor no 2. WHY???? You normally book a family room as you have family staying with you. I.e. children.
All in all Not a place for you to say with the family / children.
Very dissappointed with Holiday Inn.....

Booked this hotel for a sporting commitment for my son. location was convenient for car travel but not so great for walking into town/restaurants/ nightlife! convenient for station. Staff great, beds comfy, scenery not great either at front or rear of hotel. Road noisy out front. Extractor in bathroom didn't work.

I have stayed twice now at the Bristol Holiday Inn Express and both times have received a great level of courtesy, helpfulness and friendliness. The room is clean and provides everything I could want. It is also quiet.
The breakfast was slightly disappointing on Easter Sunday; a choice of scrambled egg, sausage and baked beans on the hot buffet but what there was was tasty. Plenty of toast available as well as juice, cereals and hot drinks.
I would recommend this hotel as value for money.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by bangormaine A few changes could improve
My first point with the Hotel is the lack of adequate Disabled Parking. There are several spaces at the back door but only one is used for Disabled Parking. I think at least three spaces could be reserved as the main Car {ark is only a few yards away.
Secondly my bed was covered in soot as soon as I switched on the room heater. I was moved to another room but this should not happen.
At the end of my first full day I returned rather late to my room to be greeted with the strong smell of sewage in my corridor and even stronger in my bathroom.
On a positive note I found the staff both before my arrival and during my stay to be very professional and they all tried hard to make my stay an enjoyable one.
The Hotel is well positioned and has a good car park at the back which is a bonus in a busy high street.
The problems are solvable so all in all I would return to this Hotel

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Johnnyboyyork Tired, grubby and overpriced
On a positive note, this property is really handy if all you need is an overnight stay close to Bristol Temple Meads station. Beyond that it is dated, poorly maintained and exceptionally pricey in relation to the quality of the accommodation. The breakfast food was really poor quality, too - over-ripe and bruised fruit, processed cheese slices, paper-thin toasting bread, cheap croissants and disgusting Elm Farm long-life yoghurts. I won't be returning until it is refitted and under new management.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cas50 Good location and value
The staff at this hotel (especially on the reception desk) are always friendly, helpful and attentive - a real asset. I have previously stayed in rooms at the front and found them to be very noisy but this time I requested a room to the rear and had no complaints at all. The cooked breakfast never looks particularly appealing but I enjoy the rest of the items on offer. All-in-all this hotel suits our needs very well, which is why we don't bother looking at alternative establishments any more.

I AM A GOLD ELITE MEMBER. I BOOKED THIS HOTEL ON 22 JAN 2013 AND REQUESTED A HIGH UP END OF CORRIDOR QUIET ROOM. I ALSO REQUESTED (CONFIRMED) A ROOM WITH SOFA BED AS THEY ARE NORMALLY MORE SPACIOUS. ON ARRIVAL I WAS ALLOCATED A ROOM ON THE 4TH FLOOR (OUT OF 6) NEARLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLOOR AND A ROOM WITHOUT SOFA BED. i WAS AWAKENED AT 11 30PM BY NOISY GUESTS HAMMERING ON OTHER DOORS ALONG THE CORRIDOR, SHOUTING AND USING FOUL LANGUAGE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AROUND 2AM AND AGAIN SHORTLY AFTER 6AM. WHILST I APPRECIATE THAT GUEST BEHAVIOUR CAN BE SOMEWHAT OUT OF YOUR CONTROL, IT IS JUST FOR THIS REASON I REQUESTED THE ROOM I DID. IE QUIET, END OF CORRIDOR. IT WAS A MOST DISTURBED AND UN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE BEING LOCATED WHERE I WAS.
THE BED HAD A SELECTION OF SOFT AND HARD PILLOWS BUT THE SOFT ONES WERE SO FLAT THERE WAS VIRTUALLY NO FILLING IN THEM TO ALLOW THEM TO BE SOFT. I LIKEN THE PILLOW COMFORT EXPERIENCE TO BEING TOTALLY A NON STARTER. tHE BED SHEET ALSO HAD A HOLE IN IT. OVERALL I CONSIDER THAT STANDARDS AT THIS HOTEL ARE WELL BELOW WHAT I HAVE BECOME TO EXPECT
I HAVE STAYED IN MANY MANY HOLIDAY INN HOTELS IN THE PAST AND BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH THE STANDARDS HOWEVER THIS EXPERIENCE WAS THE WORST EVER. I HAD HOPED THAT BY OBTAINING THE GOLD ELITE STATUS THAT IT MIGHT HAVE GIVEN A DEGREE OF BETTER ROOM ALLOCATION , BUT CLEARLY THIS ACCOUNTS FOR NOTHING HERE.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by bob1900 Smoke Smell
Although the room was a no smoking room the smell of smoke was nearly overwhelming, it would have helped if the air con worked, but it did not.
Heating came from a machine labelled do not use - told to use by reception who said they were to busy to attend.
the plug in sink was stuck and had to prise open with spoon - pointless ringing reception again as I expect they were to busy.
drain from shower tray partially blocked and nearly overflowed

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GailS Excellent customer care, very clean room & comfortable bed
We had booked for 2 nights and our first impressions of the holiday inn was when we asked to change the days of our stay. Reservations(Ranka) couldn't have been more helpful and it was lovely to see her on duty on our visit.
The only problem we had was parking the car as the hotel car park sign is not visible as you drive behind the hotel & we didnt spot the temporary parking bays at the back door as we were following the road arrows into the public car park. The manager took this on board & said she would pass it on.
The staff looked after us with a personal feel making sure we had a quiet room & giving us information about Bristol. Nothing was too much trouble. The bar was open very late which we used when we returned from our party ensuring we had a relaxed end to the evening. We found the bar prices reasonable. We slept extremely well in a very comfortable bed in a very clean room of a good standard. Well done Holiday Inn Express - we will be back!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Young67 Tired Hotel Breakfast poor
Rooms and overall Hotel looks tired, needs freshening up to justify staying here again. New Holiday Inn on Bond Street is so much better if you can book in advance and get similar or cheaper rates.
Heating took a while to 'kick in' - sat with my coat on for 30mins waiting for it to warm up.
When arrived for breakfast at around 8.45am most of the hot options not there and were not replenished.
Did get free wi fi and 2 for 1 drinks voucher as a PC member.
Reception staff were pleasant.
Stayed here 3 or 4 times in the past but wont be coming back any time soon.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sparky44 The Bristol experience
Having stayed a lot in HIE's around the country, Bristol lived up to the good standard of all the others. Only a couple of gripes, a blocked shower tray which was reported to girl on reception, but not acted upon. Traffic noise a bit loud from about 5am. One plus point, was the tall guy on reception (I'm sorry I didn't get his name, I think he was in charge) he was so helpful and pleasant, and couldn't do enough for us. Excellent service. We would certainly recommend Bristol Templegate, and it is so central and handy for both buses and trains.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Watson558 Convenient location, good service but.....
Ideal location when arriving by train late evening. Receptionists top notch. Warm, sincere and helpful. Rooms par for the course, but let down by poor, messy choice of tv and radio channels. Try finding BBC One, Two, ITV or Ch4. They're buried in amongst a pile of drossy freeview channels. And no Radio 4? How can you start the day without that?
Breakfast was poor the day I stayed. No brown bread, no rolls, just some tired, cheap & nasty white sliced. And the scrambled eggs were tough and luke warm - how long had they been lying on that shelf?
Maybe I was unlucky - as normally HIE hotels (including this one) do much better than this.

My wife and I came to Bristol for a shopping weekend, we had a superb deal with the HIE...
The whole weekend was superb, we were greeted by friendly staff, we were given a room on the 4th floor which had a great view of the city and was quiet because of its position...
The room itself was warm and comfortable and very clean...
Breakfast was as expected but the staff were run off their feet as it was very busy...
We couldnt have asked for better service and a thoroughly clean and convenient hotel...

Room had a real musty smell, carpet wasn't clean, the mattress on the bed has seen better days and to top it off i was charged for my room after my stay even though it was a reward night. I stay in Holiday Inn's all over the world and this along with Preston is the worst which is a shame as most are of good to excellent quality. Avoid.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by RonandPenny Location location
Three minutes walk from Temple Meads station. Car park next to hotel. Good bus links. Front faces station and busy forecourt. We chose a back room to be quieter. About 8 minute walk to historic town centre. Pleasant staff. Typical HI Express breakfast: adequate but not cordon bleu! If you have time you MUST visit SS Great Britain, 15 minutes on foot from hotel: brilliant experience. In fact, Bristol is great for a 2 or 3 night city break
