Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Handy location for business travelling Small hotel, modern and airy. Reception staff very friendly. Hotel is only a couple of years old so everything felt fresh and new. Typical HI Express, minimal but everything you need. Breakfast as always is limited but you will find something to eat. Decent pub next door for food. March 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel for both a one-night stay and longer First plus point, the postcode given for the hotel for Tom-Tom actually took us to the front door. (Not always the case with some places). Friendly and helpful staff. Great room, with a shower room that is out of this world. Really good choices for breakfast. (Cooked breakfast a must!!!) Overall an excellent and relaxing stay. March 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel was comfortable with exceptional staff. Comfort, cleanliness and value for money were as expected from this quality hotel group. In this particular hotel I could not praise the staff enough. When my daughter became ill whilst staying there the reception arranged for her to see a doctor and even arranged her transport. What they did for her was far in excess of anything we could have expected. My most sincere thanks to all. March 6, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not enough we stayed here for two nights very nice and clean . Not many places to eat only the pub opposite which we found to be very expensive £12.00 for 2 drinks. next day found a pub in Duxford village called the Plough nice sunday lunch very good Beer and very good value. never enough tea or coffee had to keep asking for more. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor breakfast and no bath. Feb 2013 We decided to treat ourselves to the Holiday Inn rather than the travel lodge hoping for a better experience. We live on a boat and we were looking forward to having a nice soak in a bath. Our room did not have a bath. The other thing we were looking forward to was a nice cooked breakfast. We had a lovely one with lots of vaiety when we stayed in Ashford Kent. The Duxford Holiday Inn express did not have a great variety and the food was luke warm. Sausage, beans and scrambled egg. No vegetarian sausages or variety ie bacon fried egg etc. We were disappointed and will not return. March 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great value excellent value top masks for sparkling bathroom and comfort and friendly service February 28, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not good Stayed her a few times and as a Platinum Priority Club member I would have expected better from Holiday Inn Express. The room had only 1 coat hanger. A call to reception was greeted with 'we have no spares'. So hung my clothes on the floor (almost). The most irritating thing was the room right opposite the platform of Whittlesford Station. The noise of the trains can be heard, and when they commence running at around 5am expect to be woken by them frequently as they pass through. Breakfast is the usual from HI express, but seemed to be lacking in quantity and little choice, i.e 1 type of yoghurt, no muesli etc. I will probably stay here again - family nearby and will request a room at the other side of the hotel. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Another Superb Experience .. I use this Hotel as a base when I visit Cambs to see my Children. Ross and his Staff are second to none, always helpful and respectful, and nothing is ever an issue for them. I have stayed at other Hol Inn Express Hotels, and this is the best by far. Ideally situated on the Train line for Cambridge Centre, and is always clean, and friendly. Can't speak highly enough about the staff at this Hotel, the only minor let down, is Breakfast, which is a bit short on quality of choice, but never short on amount of whats there. And is always good quality to eat. February 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by What a surprise! Very pleasantly surprised with this hotel experience. Quite quiet being beside the breakfast room and the odd rumble of the night trains. Room clean and comfortable. Staff very efficient and helpful. Would recommend on these factors alone. Perhaps some better quality breakfast items could be included - such as a less sugary muesli, live natural yoghurt and less water in the fruit juices. Unless you got up at the crack of dawn the bacon had vanished. February 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by If only you couldsleep here! This is an excellent location, especially if you are visiting the Imperial War Museum at RAF Duxford or Cambridge, and the hotel is modern and easy to find. I was recognised with free Wifi as a PCR PLatinum member! The staff are great, very friendly, the rooms are modern and the shower was huge... but the mattress was so very soft that we could not sleep properly at all! If it was not for a sleepless night the hotel would have got 2 extra stars but as it stands it is only ** from me. January 31, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good express deal We had a choose between this Holiday Inn Express and other competitive hotels in the area. For us the Holiday Inn Express in Duxford ticked all the right boxes, Good value, free parking, nice staff, excellent room with everything working that should be working and finally nice variety of breakfast choices. The only negative is the area seemed very isolated. What I mean by this is we did not fancy anything on the hotel's restaurant menu, so we drove around maybe 10 - 15 minutes trying to find a restaurant. We ended up having to settle for a fast food restaurant. Nothing wrong with that other than the surrounding area had very few restaurants. January 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Cold room, noisy fan, nice reception/bar staff Having asked for a quiet room, I was unlucky enough to be alloted a room in which the air conditioning (oops sorry 'air cooling'# system was all too efficient. It was impossible to shut off the very loud fan. And it was also - in a frosty January - much too cold. There were instructions given in the room for adjusting temperature and fan but although i followed them to the letter, these seemed to have no effect. I duly informed reception next morning and was corrected in my choice of words - it's not 'air conditioning' it's 'air cooling'. #Got that?# Anyway the maintenance manager emerged from his lair and promised to fix it for me while I was out at work. I got back from work to my room to find things no different. As previously, I tried the controls but to no effect. On consulting reception, I was told Maintenance Manager had fixed the fan and was also asked whether I had 'touched' the control panel. Apparently I wasn't supposed to touch the control panel at all, once the maintenance guy had set it. Unfortunately he hadn't seen fit to leave a message to tell me this. And what if I needed to adjust it as guests are supposed to be able to? The upshot was that I couldn't face another freezing and sleepless night in a room with a fan noisily blasting air and apologetically asked for a change of room. Receptionist was lovely. That girl should be promoted - she couldn't have been kinder or nicer. She found me a room which was blissfully temperate and blissfully silent. And if that were not enough, she or another of the lovely smiling girls returned to me a dressing gown sash which I had inadvertently left in the original room. I've stayed twice in this hotel now and each time the air-cooling system has been dodgy. However the rooms are very clean and the beds comfortable and it's all pretty adequate for the price. If you want dinner you can walk about 40yards to an olde worldy pub with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff which serves pricey but more or less ok food. I think the score in the staff congeniality and effectiveness league table goes as follows: Girls On Reception and Bar/waiting staff in pub 20/20 hence four of the guest experience rating stars Maintenance Manager 5/20 reason why it's not a five star rating January 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice place very pleasant staff Right next to train station so not everybodys cup of tea but i actually loved the surrounds staff were extremley polite and helpful room was clean and tidy were all hungry but pub menu was not to our taste so we opted for pizza which my children said was delicious had a good nights sleep breakfast for myself was excellent (january diets) however the sausages were not brought out until later so my husband missed those but staff were on hand for assistance and were not put out when we were up at the coffee machine for lots of coffee the manager that was on duty (Dawn i think) was very nice and nothing was to much trouble was offered late checkout as priority club member but had to refuse as we had to travel on but liked the fact that this was pointed out . Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfy and clean Really nice atmosphere in rooms, very relaxing and the staff are very helpful January 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable rooms, great shower! Overall our stay was good, we stayed Christmas evening. Breakfast was busy and crockery and cutlery ran out, staff did well for the pressure they were under. Breakfast content needs to improve, especially the rock hard croissants!. Would recommend this hotel for an overnight stay. January 2, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing Breakfast Very convenient for visiting Duxford. The rooms are clean and reasonable but the breakfast was dreadful - they need to reprint their menu as lots of things are not available. No selection of fresh fruit, no selection of teas and only supermarket wrapped bread. The hot breakfast was dry and overcooked. December 20, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Value for money we would completely recommend this hotel....clean (would think it had just been built), great location, really friendly staff. December 13, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Service Room had several things missing ie: tissues, toilet rolls, tea making facility was for one person only and quantities of sugar, milk was exceptionally small. Breakfast !! Total disaster. No bacon, sausages tasting of nothing, Were actually eggs used for the scrambled eggs. I doubt it. What ever happened to normal breakfast tea ? For your info. Hot water from a machine is never hot enough to get a proper brew. December 8, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by accessible hotel and comfortable bed A very easy to access hotel, just ~1hour by train from Liverpool street at a reasonable budget. December 6, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room, great service A lovely stay at this hotel. The staff were brilliant, the room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and very tasty. We'd recomment this hotel for anyone who was going to visit Duxford Imperial War Museum. can't wait to return. November 22, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A particularly good Holiday Inn Express This was my 4th or 5th stay. All have been very good indeed. The staff are particularly helpful and the building is fairly new so the appearance is even better than average. Parking is free and usually there are enough spaces. The Wi-Fi [freee to Platinum Priority Card Holders] is better than usual hotel speeds. I recommend a room on the side opposite the railway, as it is quieter. November 18, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best service ever I feel I have to write a review following my stay. The room was spotless, the breakfast scrummy and lots of choice. I unfortunately needed a doctor in the early hours and I have to say the girls (Amy and Laura) on reception were exceptional. They rang an out-of-hours doctor for me and when I was told I needed to drive to a hospital, they printed out the directions for me in double quick time. I can't praise them highly enough. Would have no hesistation in recommending the place to anyone and if I'm ever in the vicinity I will definitely stay there again. Well done Holiday Inn. November 16, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Nights Sleep The hotel is spotless and the rooms modern. The staff are very friendly. HOWEVER...the bed itself is so soft and uncomfortable that the sofa bed was an improvement. Both my partner and I had bad shoulder and neck pains form sleeping in this bed. Shame, as the hotel would have been a regular place to stay when visiting friends. I did complain about this on checkout but no action was taken...disappointing. November 6, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Most comfortable pillows on our trip Hotel so convenient for Cambridge at reasonable prices. Just yards to the station for the 8 minute journey to Cambridge and trains run twice an hour until late. Surprisingly quiet in view of location and just across the road from the sister hotel 'The Red Lion' which offers good pub comfort food again at good prices. Very comfortable bed, great shower and the only minor gripe was the continuing poor quality coffee offered by HIexpress at breakfast November 4, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Breakfast night mare Hotel and rooms very modern, clean, and well kept. Sound of train could grate on you (we had room at oposite side facing car park but could still hear it). Breakfast was a night mare, no tables to sit at, if you got one part of your breakfast you had to wait 10 minutes for the other, so it was beans and eggs for starters and sausage for afters. No cups or glasses when we asked we were told they were all in the dishwasher and would be at least 10 minutes! ran out of brown sauce. Pub in the car park very expensive. Out of 3 IHG hotels in a week this was our least favourite, shame as the IWM near by is fab! November 3, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good but could have done better Really enjoyed our stay especialy ou meals inThe Red Lion. The staff could not be faulted. location was excellent. The only dissapointment was getting into the shower to find the soap dispenser was empty. October 29, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good & Bad Spacious room and bathroom. The best ever bed mattress I have ever tried, and bed pillows provided (both soft and hard ones were available on bed, for the resident to choose from). The place where this hotel is, should be considered as the best choice, if like us, you are about to visit Duxford airfiled or museum (about 1 mile away). It seems there is an issue with noise from the train station at the corner, but if you ask for a room at the opposite side, should probably never bother you. Also, the room lacks of a refrigerator (and obviously a mini-bar, meaning you have to dress-up and go down to reception to have a cocke or a bottle of water!!!). However, the field where this hotel really suffers is the breakfast provided. Very basic, not tasteful at all, and lacking very basic stuff (on my second morning there, a british lady asked for some napkins to take the marmelade out of her hands, and the staff informed her that they have... ran out of them!!!), something that certainly you wouldn't expect from a hotel of this name (and at that room price)! I felt so disapointed to my business guest there! October 27, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Excellent Stay as Always ! I have been using this Hotel as a Base, when I come down from Glasgow, to Visit my Family and Friends in Cambridge, for sometime. After meeting Ross and his team, they always look after me, and accomodate me and my Family very well. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Cambridge, especially for those tourists that can't find anywhere central, as this is only 5 mins on the Train line into town. I can't praise this Hotel and it's Staff enough, and hope to have many happy stays in the Future. Best Regards to Ross and all the Team ! October 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent accommodation and service Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, our room was most comfortable would have like a small chest of drawers in the room purely to stop living out of suitcase. The hotel serves an excellent pizza from 9 p.m. would like to see a couple of more meals on the menu to avoid going to The Red Lion pub which is vastly overpriced. Breakfast was more than adequate Noise from the trains was minimal and did not disturb us. Extremely convenient for getting to Cambridge by train just a 10 minutes ride away. October 14, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FRIENDLY HOTEL My husband & I have stayed at this hotel for the last 2 years when attending an Army reunion. On the last occasion we asked to be moved from a room where the noise level from a neighbouring venue was too loud. This was done immediately & without any fuss. The staff are always attentive & polite & nothing is too much trouble Also a great location for visiting Cambridge as the railway station is beside the hotel so you can leave the car behind and enjoy your time in the city.
