Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable hotel with excellent service We brought our granddaughter for her first hotel visit to this hotel and the staff could not have been more helpful. Although we had booked this hotel 2/3 weeks before the receptionist remembered that I had asked for a ground floor room as I have difficulty with stairs. Although this hotel is next to the A2 there was virtually no noise. On the first night the dining room was full when we came to eat but a meeting room was immediately opened up which we could use and he made sure the heating was working. The one down side was the lack of choice of Vegetarian food on the menu and the children's pasta dish was made with ribbon pasta which was difficult to handle for one so young (pasta twirls would have been better for children). The breakfast was unbelievable - so much choice and it was constantly been replenished with fresh hot food. Again the one downside was the toasting area where there was always a hold up with people waiting for toast. It was always very busy at breakfast and we had to sit in reception to eat on 2 occasions when there were tables for 4 with only 1 or 2 people on - perhaps a member of staff could show people to a suitable table to ease this problem. The room was fresh and clean but having the bed settee up all the time we struggled for space and could not use the table or the chair without having major furniture reorganisation. The beds were very comfortable and clean and it was lovely to have a choice of firm or soft pillows. We would definitely stay here again when we come to visit relatives and would recommend it to our friends. November 4, 2014

The location meant easy access to Canterbury, Margate, Dover, Folkstone etc. The staff were helpful and engaging; the rooms clean and well presented; the breakfast a good selection. The buildings looked a bit tired needing a facelift but this did not detract from the overall experience for us. October 28, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty Good Nice hotel, attentive and friendly staff. Noisy traffic but knew that when i booked the room so no real complaints about that. Rooms ok but a bit tatty. Shower was AWESOME..........really powerful. Breakfst was a bit of a let down and not very nice but you get wht you pay for i guess. Definitely stay here again if needed to. October 24, 2014

The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were pleasant and helpful. There was ample parking. Minor criticisms - the rooms weren't air-conditioned (but the heater worked well); the Wi-Fi login was more complicated than necessary; access from the east is a little tricky. October 19, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not a Good Express Stayed here for one night, as working in Kent. I am a Priority club member for over 10 years and found this hotel very strange. Firstly as a gold member, you normally get a free pint or 200 points... I choose the drink...only to be told its only a free half pint???...something not right there. Secondly, I wanted to book a table at 7pm, but was told I would have to use a make shift table in a meeting room to eat, as they had a coach full of German's arriving sometime, possibly 9pm. If I sat in the restaurant and they arrived, I would be asked to move.!!! I said that I have a right to sit in the restaurant and not a meeting room... At 7pm, I sat in the restaurant on good a good comfy chair and was finished by 8pm. I saw other guests, having to use the meeting room....without questioning it.. WOULD YOU STAY IN A HOTEL...AND EAT IN A MEETING ROOM?? Not the image you get from viewing the hotel information..,. If this is the practice of IHG...beware!!! as this is poor. October 19, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very disappointing This was a disappointing experience, from start to finish. On the day we travelled we found out there were road works in the area. In fact, the A2 which provides the only access to the hotel was shut altogether. We had to make our own enquiries on how to get there and the instructions given by the hotel's reception was wholly inadequate. The hotel would have know about the road works well in advance and should have notified their guests, especially with the noise of the works going on all night. So we had trouble getting there and not a very good nights sleep. On top of this the breakfast was appalling, Awful sausages, dried up crusty baked beans and the scrambled eggs had long finished with a kitchen attendant seemingly standing by checking how long it would for someone to say something before taking action. Having made a double booking for us and our friends, our friends paid for their room on their arrival and left pretty sharpish in the morning. When we checked out the staff at reception had no record of our friend payment and insisted we pay for both rooms. We had to contact our friend who passed on the details of their receipt before we were allowed to pay for our room only. On a final note, walking along the corridor, staircase and hallway we found many of the carpets being threadbare and totally worn out with paint peeling of the steel bannisters. October 12, 2014

The package I booked was for 2 nights stay and theatre tickets unfortunately the theatre tickets had not been booked by the hotel prior to advertising this package and when they tried to book them the production was sold out however we were instead given 2 passes to Canterbury cathedral. The hotel was clean and staff friendly but unfortunately our room overlooked the main entrance where smokers noisily congregated at all hours throughout the night. October 9, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Express-way The hotel its self is fine, but its location makes this hotel difficult to recommend. Its located to the rear of a petrol station, and not very clearly signed, Its about 5 miles out of Canterburry and is situated on a dual carriageway with no direct access from one direction - this means approx a 2 mile tour up the dual carriageway and then back doen the other side. I did not have an evening meal (previous holiday inn's have not proved fruitful for meals) and the breakfast was the usual poor selection. All the above said, the room was clean, modern and quiet which gave a good nights rest. Not somewhere to go to on holiday but if like me its just a 1 night business trip with somewhere quiet to sleep its fine. October 5, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by an enjoyable break we were a bit apprehensive when we booked a holiday inl n express, as we were nt sure what to expect, we were definately not dissapointed, our room was light and sunny, clean and comfortable,and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful, on our 1st eve we had dinner at the hotel, and it was very nice, we stayed 4 nights, and breakfasts in the morning were always adequate and hot and plenty of it. most enjoyable. Drove past it once and had to go around the A2 again as it is hidden behind a petrol station. The bathroom toilet was dirty. Cobwebs in the extractor fan. Bedsheets were stained. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Location & cleanliness at Meals You have to access (in & out) the Hotel via a Service Area on one side of a dual carriageway. There are no alternative access points. The Hotel being just behind the Petrol Station. This should be mentioned in Hotel description as whilst just acceptable for overnight stop en route, certainly not a location for any longer. Evening meal was served to table by a Server with dirty finger nails which actually were touching part of our meals as he carried the plates. Very off putting. A number of us were cold because the air conditioning was on full blast. As 2 nights booked we abandoned 2nd & when asked why I was told that the Service area location was not mentioned because they were not on a Service Area! Staff member quite verbally aggressive during conversation. September 10, 2014

Suprisingly quiet for a hotel by a main road but coming back to it out of Canterbury involves a U-turn off the A2 after which the signage is not as obvious as it might be - we made it second time around! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Good stop off hotel Good basic clean hotel for stop off on way back from France. We stayed in a family room - one double bed and one sofa bed - small but adequate for one night stay. The children could feel the springs of the sofa bed so we asked for another duvet to put on the mattress as a liner - no problem for the staff - they brought it to our room within 15 minutes. Good choice for breakfast - self service; eat as much as you like. This is the third time we have stayed here and would stay again for another stop off on way to or from France. Very good value for money and only short distance into Canterbury town Centre. September 1, 2014

Overall the hotel is understaffed, so although the staff are friendly, everything happens slowly as there is not enough staff members to see to the guests. It took about 1/2 hour to check in as the guy on the desk was dealing with so many customers, for example, not great after a long day..... So although the hotel itself was OK, and the staff were OK, do not expect an express service! Breakfast was also exceptionally poor. August 27, 2014
