Great stay, express breakfast good (would of liked more choice on cereal, but that's just me!) fresh and everything I needed to start the day! went with family and kids enjoyed the breakfast too.
We didn't have a car but walked to town centre and mermaid quay which wasn't to bad a walk into town but wouldn't do it late at night!.

Excellant staff very helpful. Rooms as you would expect. Internet in great room.
Only point to make is they do not do food in the evening and pub next door stops serving at 9 so if you are arriving late make sure you are fed or the only option is to order in a takeaway. Staff able to supply menus and will ring for you

Our family, including 2 children aged 6 and under, stayed in a family room in this hotel for 5 nights.
The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. My children even wrote a thank you note to the desk staff!
The room was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was more than adequate and set us all up nicely for a day's exploring.
The hotel's location is very convenient for exploring the Bay area and close to the city centre.
My sole complaint was the lack of free Wi-Fi especially as there was no BT open world we could access in the area.

No bread for toast one morning
We do generally enjoy out stays at Holiday Inn properties, this one seems to be a little tired.

I booked my 75 year old mum tickets to see a show at St Davids Hall. Due to her age, the cold time of year, late finish of show and athritis I sought out overnight stay close by. This was the best choice I could have made. Taxi cost £4.20 to the hotel.It is about 15-20 mins walk otherwise. I explained my mum's age and severe athritis to the hotel and requested they allocate an easy room with a view. They kindly remembered and mum's room was on the ground floor with a beautiful room overlooking the marina. She saw swans and ducks in the morning swimming by! Mum said the staff could not do enough to help (especially the kind Scottish lady), the linen was crisp and fresh, the room very clean and comfortable with lovely furniture, decor etc and a wonderful breakfast selection which tasted as good as it looked. She loved it so much she plans another visit with friends later on in the year. I took a gamble not having been there myself and as this was my mum's Christmas present, I was a little apprehensive given her age and health too. I am thrilled at the result. Mum was gushing when she came home, like an excited little girl. I can't thank you all enough. Bless you. Please know how grateful and appreciative I am. You are doing a great job, please keep doing it. Big pat on the backs and I will definitely be putting more custom your way. Any chance of a discount?!

This Holiday Inn Express fell short of the usual quality and value for money one can usually experience at a Holiday Inn Express.
The lift could not function because it was allegedly expecting a spare part from Germany. The room had an unpleasant odour about it upon arrival. Breakfast was a huge disappointment. There were not enough tables to accommodate everyone and those available were too close together which made access to and from a nightmare, The hot breakfast did not include tomatoes or baked beans and everything kept running out and guests had to wait for replenishments. I was even invited to drink orange juice out of a mug because there were no glasses available.

Stayed at the HIE for 6 nights. I've stayed at Holiday Inns across Europe and the UK (e.g. Madrid, Barcelona, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester) so my comments reflect a comparison to my previous experiences.
PROS
Priority Club points
excellent location, 15 min. walk from city center and 10 min walk from Cardiff bay. Being on the riverside offers amazing scenery.
Staff: extremely kind and helpful, one of the best I've come across.
Cleanliness: clean and tidy rooms.
CONS
No free internet, it's the first Holiday Inn I've been to that charges internet. I think this is really poor, especially given that there was free wi fi elsewhere, e.g. in the city's shopping center.
Elevator was broken for the last 3 days, wasn't fixed before I left, the hotel could have offered something to compensate customers who stayed on floors 1, 2 etc.
Breakfast: typical English breakfast. Not to my liking, I only had a glass of juice every morning. I realize it's a hotel in the UK but it could offer a wider variety of continental breakfast to satisfy travelers from other countries - even boiled eggs could make a difference.
TV channels: really limited, only the 5 or 6 free to view ones, no sky channels, again this was the first time I've seen this at a Holiday Inn worldwide, even the Madrid and Barcelona Holiday Inns I visited last year had full coverage of Sky channels so I expected the UK hotels to keep up with that.
Bed: not the most relaxing ever but I was beat by the time I went to bed so that wasn't much of a deal. Not a great variety of pillows.

Stayed in a family room 2 adults and One child aged 15.The sofa bed had been folded down into a double bed, so unable to access the window without standing on the sofa bed. The double bed was uncomfortable with a dip in the middle. With the sofa bed folded down it made the accessible space limited for a family room..on the plus side a nice view of the canal and the shower was good.The staff were friendly and the taxis reasonably priced, with local amenities a 10 minute walk away into the bay.

I have stayed at this hotel for the last 2 weeks for business and although the weather was atrocious, the staff were great and could not be more obliging.
They have a handy takeaway menu as well for those who do not fancy going out.
It would be nice to have the choice of a few more TV channels though.
You cannot fault the bedrooms - they are in very good order.

good clean, well equipt room. ideal location for Cardiff Bay & cardiff city centre to walk. but nice & quiet area. Pleasent staff. Breakfast a little on the minimal side. But would still stay here again.

The member of Staff at reception was exceptionally helpful as nothing was too much trouble for him. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on in an hotel - could have stayed there all day. The only small issue was no bacon for breakfast,. but all in all a very pleasant stay.

Location was good but, no availability of dinner have to call take aways, no room service , have to go downstairs for every task i-e whether to order something or if you need some thing like iron or tea bags not enough in the room.
However the taxi service provided was very good i-e "DRAGON Taxi service".
Needs a lot of improvement.

First class customer service, made our Sons 14 birthday that extra special. Fantastic area, peaceful yet only 15 mins walk into City centre or 10 mins to the Bay. We used Taxi's as it was raining a lot, but we were surprised our cheap the cost of the fare was, would recommend leaving the car at home and explore on foot weather permitting of course? All the staff made us feel very special, we will be back in the Spring. Thank you. See you soon. The Brown family would like to wish you all a Happy New Year.

The staff here are always very attentive to our needs. On many times we have stayed here at Cardiff Bay we have always been pleased with the staff. The last stay was no exception.
Here is an example from another recent visit: During a stay on December 4th to 8th we were awaiting a taxi in the foyer to go to the theatre. The Manager asked us where we were going and she then noticed my wife had lost a small and expensive earring. We new she was wearing it a few minutes previous.
The Manager said she would come with me and we would retrace our steps back to the room. We looked along a very long corridor with a torch and in our room and on the way back we found it lying by the lift! She was so confident about finding the jewellery and she made sure the taxi waited. Later that evening after the theatre I also found the back clip.
Now that is a very, very small piece of plastic. Found this once again in the corridor.
The point is: Without the staff's enthusiasm I think I would have given up the search. So we found a valuable keepsake and found excellent hotel staff in the bargain.
Conclusion: Staff get 100% in our book. We stay every 3 months at least. So we look forward to the next stay.

The hotel is situated within walking distance to cardiff bay and the town. the room was big enough and the breakfast made a nice touch and set you up for the day.
The staff were so friendly and helpful and really made the trip enjoyable.

The only reason I awarded 2 stars for room and comfort is that the windows had a very serious draft problem (room 122). Unfortunately I forgot to mention it when checking it out because we were in a hurry... the staff raise this hotel above the normal chain hotel; consistently great.

Situated by the wharfs within walking distance of both city centre and Mermaid Bay so we could just forget the car during our stay.
Quiet location so no trouble with noisy traffic outside at night.
Very friendly staff, especially at reception.
Rooms are simple but have all you need.
Breakfast provides all you want, even fresh fruit.
Nice restaurant directly next to hotel if you don't want to go far in the evening.

This hotel is a great place to stay, friendly staff, good location and secure parking.
We re-booked to return after we stayed between 15th & 17th Nov as we found the hotel was ideal for our purpose. The weather was awful but it was only a short walk to Cardiff Bay and Dr Who Experience. My husband is an avid fan and was not at all deterred by the 10 minute walk from the hotel. The restaurants in the Dragon Centre are a very short walk. In all we had a wonderful experience.
