First, let me say that the staff at this Holiday Inn Express are extremely nice and attentive. Bernardo and Kim went out of their way to try and make things right with our assigned room. With that said, we did experience some problems.
When we checked in, the room smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. I wasn't happy about it, but it was bearable. I immediately contacted the front desk to let them know out of fear that they'd try to charge me for in room smoking upon checkout. The AC unit was not turned on, but upon turning it on, the smell of smoke really picked up. I contacted Kim at the front desk again and she, along with Bernardo, tried their best to accommodate us with another room. Unfortunately, there wasn't a room available that met our needs, so we stayed with our originally assigned room.
The room was fair, at best. There was a hole ripped in the curtains above the AC unit in the main room, and the chairs at the table were dingy and showing signs of serious wear. There were cracks in one of the bathroom sinks, and the AC unit in the main room had to be turned down to 64 degrees in order to bring the room down to a comfortable temperature (compared to the one in the bedroom which we set at 72, and were comfortable.) The sink in the main room also seemed to have trouble draining at times.
As far as cleanliness, housekeeping did an adequate job, though I was disappointed that one of the face towels they provided had a red stain on it - not something you really want to see on a hotel towel.
On the plus side, the location is really great - in walking distance to the Heavenly Gondola, Stateline, a grocery store and lots of restaurants. The staff, as I mentioned above, is also excellent, and the breakfast is better than most that I've experienced at Holdiay Inn Express.

The room was clean and quiet. Nice motel and the front desk staff was very friendly. When checking in she put a caller on hold to finish helping us.

We enjoy staying at the Holiday Inn Express in South Lake Tahoe. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The rooms do need updating however for maximum cleanliness and appearance.

This is a great place to stay to be close to recreational activities and casino activities.
Would recommend asking for top floor as your friends upstairs can get a bit noisy.
Overall, a really good choice to stay in South Lake Tahoe!

My husband and I stayed approximately 8 nights and we had a very good experience with all staff. All staff were friendly, courteous and greeted us whenever they saw us. They made us feel very welcome. I would definitely stay here again.

The room was a suite and it was very comfortable and home-feeling. The service was great, I had some issues with the room roll-over bed that couldn't been fixed, but the solution they give us was, a bedroom next the one we had.That made us feel really appreciated as a customer.
The plus goes to the snow that fell in the time we were stayng in South Lake Taohe, that, as a fact, it was the first time, no to see snow but to see it fall.
We are willing to go back for xmas.

Although the price was a little high for a non-suite, typical hotel room, the location can't be beat!
The breakfast area gets crowded really quick on weekends and holidays, so booking early is a must.
We really like the hot tub after a long day on the slopes, but as a long time Platinum Priority Member, I was disappointed that I was not offered any upgrades or recognized as such.
If I can find another rewards program hotel nearby with a hot tub, I would probably have to choose elsewhere next year.

I am a member of multiple reward programs and have stayed at hundreds of hotels around the globe and never have I had such a ridiculous, frustrating, and unpleasant stay. It started with a free night stay based on IHG credit card versus a point stay. While the rewards programs claims to have no blackouts, some of the hotels are not obliged to allow reward stay, even when they have multiple rooms open and available (they can limit # of award rooms). I had gotten a free fri night and was hoping for a second free night as I had an additional reward for such in my account. The hotel had 4 rooms remaining open for Sat night when I checked in but were unwilling at that time to allow me to book on award, wanted only to sell it to me. I asked if there still happened to be open rooms come next day if they would reconsider, I was told to check back but doubtful. Unfortunately I fell ill that night and when I checked online the next morning found rooms available online, and the website allowed me to book that next Night using my reward. I was happy not to have to drive home ill so I went to desk and checked out and back in on new reservation which I had confirmation for from IHG web booking. Stayed in bed ill all day and come 8:30 pm I get a call from the front desk saying there was a mistake and I should not have been allowed the free night and that I was going to be billed. My response was that I had a confirmation in hand but if they were going to hassle me over it I would leave. About 30 mins later, another call came stating it had been worked out and they were ALLOWING me to stay. The whole thing kept me up half the night brewing but I was still to sick to leave. Next morning at checkout, clerk was insistent on varying my credit card details which sent up another red flag. She also indicated that I "had been told" that award # had been hit for Sat and implied that I was somehow gaming the system. I responded that when I saw the rooms available online Sat morning, I just assumed the hotel opened them up at that point as they WERE NOT BOOKED FULL ANYWAY! I then requested a checkout invoice showing a zero balance as I had lost all trust in this place and the couple beside me was having a similar problem (don't know if they were checking in or out but they were also booked on a free night that the desk was not acknowledging). The checkout clerk gave me a song and dance about not being able to give me a zero balance invoice at which I lost my patience and indicated I wasn't leaving without a zero invoice and advised her that I had never been treated so badly at a lodging establishment in all of my decades of traveling. She finally produced a zero balance invoice which I am hanging on to until my next credit card statement arrives... I am hoping the battle is truly over! There is nothing wrong with the rooms but this kind of guest treatment is utterly uncalled for

A good property and one of the better mid-tier hotel options in the area. Our room was comparatively huge and although we stayed only one evening it would have made a longer stay a "home away from home" experience.
The front-of-house staff were efficient and courteous and gave me a nice "platinum" welcome, although there was no in room treat provided on this stay (it's not obligatory, nor expected but it's the first stay this year where it wasn't provided, even in a non-IC property).
I'm not a fan of the Holiday Inn Express breakfast generally speaking and this one was no exception, which is to say it's the same in every Express hotel and I don't care for it (folks who like the complimentary breakfast options would be happy, of course).
Proximity to the Heavenly gondola is excellent and there are many very fine restaurants within a short drive.
Would definitely return and thanks HIE Tahoe for an enjoyable stay.

This property is in an excellent location for skiing (less than 2 blocks from the Heavenly Gondola), dining, shopping and casinos. Parking is free (a huge convenience). The rooms are tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly, efficient and so eager to please. They were a joy to deal with. Breakfast is included (another great convenience). If you're there on a busy weekend, as we were, plan accordingly as the dining area can be mobbed by hungry guests. The staff works extremely hard to replenish all items and turn the tables over. This was our 5th year skiing in the Lake Tahoe area, but our first and definitely not our last stay at this hotel.

Stayed for new years. Walkable to gondola, several ski/board rental shops (across the street), Mc P'd pub, food and liquor stores.
The staff is friendly and accommodating. We even sat in lobbylobby after hours by the fire with a bottle of wine to relax.
There are three separate two story buildings of roomsrooms on the property and all are accessible to lobby by a easy walk.
We looked at the indoor sauna and spa but didn't go in-wish we had though (no time).
Would recommend this property over others.

The hotel is disconnected from the main office and the room was small but nice. Spa/swim area appeared to be clean. Walking distance to heavenly and maybe 30 minutes walk to the pier to go off into Lake Tahoe. Sidewalks and parking areas appeared well-shoveled/plowed

We stayed in Room 206 (on the ground Floor - facing the main road)
The rooms are about 100 metres away the main building and the tress helped to reduce any road noise. It was quiet at night.
Coffee/tea are available throughout the day at the lobby. Receptionists are helpful. Breakfast is good/sufficient.
Location is excellent - a 5 mins walk to restaurants and Harrah Casino (3 mins drive)
Laundry/drying facility was a great asset.

Everything was ok, breakfast was good except the price of room, we paid too much for that stay , we checked other places around to see where to stay next time and avabilites and we found at list 3 more places better than ours, so I became a little bit upset

We enjoyed our stay because the room was very clean, linens were top notch, ( pillows were very uncomfortable...)(my only complaint) location was near everything you may want to do in the South Lake Tahoe Area, we felt safe walking everywhere, hotel was quiet and the indoor spa and sauna was clean and well maintained! The staff was very friendly and accommodating! Stay here!

Overall the property is great. The staff were friendly, the breakfast wonderful, the room clean. We really had no complaints about the property itself. The issue we had was the quoted price received online and paid for the room which was 20% higher than what was being advertised in person at the hotel itself (as overheard when another potential guest stopped by to inquire about rates). The online rate was the 'low price guarantee', but it seems this was not the case.

Had a great and comfortable stay. stayed in the king room with jacuzzi. room was spacious felt like an apartment setting but the bed was not firm enough. The breakfast was good. The staff were friendly and helpful.
