The pool experienced an unexpected problem right before we got there and they had to shut it down for the night. We had been talking it up all day to our kids and they were really disappointed. The staff was really helpful in getting it ready by the next morning so we could salvage that part of the trip.

In general, an unsatisfying experience. But for the help of the desk clerk, we might have left the room early and gone to another hotel. The room we were given (101) reeked of stale cigarette smoke,and there was no similar room available. Room was inadequately supplied by housekeeping with shampoo and conditioner, probably because of hotel policy. Front desk clerk corrected this.

I had a odor of damp/musky smell in my room the entire week. it was a 1st floor room and had not experienced this in other 2nd/3rd floor rooms.

The new Candlewood Suites at Chambersburg--just a mile from the Holiday Inn Express at which we regularly stay--was superior in every respect, from siting, staff reception, cleanliness of the guest room and comfort of the bed.

Receptionists was very stand offish when questioned about the room we were in. Like it was a personal offense to them that we asked about rooms with the spa tub in the actual room, and not the bathroom, as we've had before in other Holiday Inn Express's. The female on shift at the time even made it apparent in her facial expressions that we were bothering her with our question.
