Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Not bad, but not great.
For the price, this place isn't bad to be so close to downtown Charleston, especially if you need to be close to MUSC/VA Hospital or the baseball stadium. The building itselft is pretty old and only parts have been majorly updated. Once you get past the main office/breakfast area, all of the hallways have a stuffy smell to them. I guess it just goes along with the age of the building. The rooms are nothing to write home about, but the linens atleast seemed very clean.
Positives: The staff were really great from the front desk to maid service. The breakfast was very good and there was a wide range of choices from pancakes, muffins, cinnamon rolls, toast and bagels, yogurt, cereal, bacon, and even omelettes. The workout facility has all the basics that you would expect.
The negatives: Parking is terrible if the hotel is remotely busy. I ended up parking beside a dumpster the first night and on a curb the second night. All of the "parking spaces" were taken pretty much all day and you had to luck in to getting one. The hotel is right off of Highway 17, so you hear a lot of noise in the rooms. Even the extremely loud AC unit that would blast on for 2 minuts at a time didn't cover up the noise from traffic.
Overall, I would probably stay here again but only if it was much cheaper than the other chain hotel basically next door to it.

My husband and I spent a couple of nights at your hotel. We were very impressed from the moment that we arrived. Check in was quick and efficient. When making reservations, I had asked for a room above the 3rd floor and got one on the 5th floor. Room was clean, attractive and comfortable. Breakfasts were enjoyable and there was always plenty of room. Also enjoyed grabbing a cup of hot coffee on our way back to our room at the end of the day. Front desk was helpful and made arrangements for our scheduled tour for the next day. We had convenient pick up by the tour bus the following morning. After our day touring we took a free shuttle to the Visitors' Centre and there changed to board the shuttle that took us very close to the hotel. We could see the pool from our balcony door. Although we did not have enough time to use it, it looked like a good size with plenty of lounge chairs. We also ran into some folks who were there on business and appreciated the fitness center. Overall we were so impressed with our stay here and look forward to staying at a Holiday Inn Express again.
