Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment not Hospitable to Guests with Families I wish I could speak from a more favorable perspective of this establishment, seeing that my family and I have frequented Holiday Inns on numerous occasions and had the BEST experiences. (I am an IHG Rewards Club Member) I came to North Carolina for a business trip, however my wife and 4 children accompanied me to sight-see and experience the renown Southern Hospitality. My children had been literally crossing off days on the calendar for months for this visit. We drove 7 hours to arrive, checking in roughly 10:45 ish in the night. My wife and I have 4 young children so it took several trips to bring our items into the room. I'm sure THIS might have caused a little stir to our next door neighbors. We were in the room 10 minutes and received a room call, but my wife didn't catch it in time (She later unplugged it, her usual habit in hotels since our 2 year old loves the number 8). Shortly after, we heard a knock on the door from the Manager on Duty, Lydia. She explained there was a report of loudness from our room, my wife apologized and everyone was cordial. We understood our late-night arrival might have been a little disruptive as we were getting our things situated. We immediately began putting pj's on the children and ushered them into bed. Within 10 minutes, they were all in bed. Not asleep, but off the floors, since the noise-call was from the persons below. Less that 10 minutes later, we receive a knock on the door, this time I answered the door asking what noise did they hear, because the children were all in bed. That's when we were threatened that we will have to leave if they hear a complaint from this person again. Lydia, the manager on duty, went on to say: "We have alot of Business people who stay at our hotel". I wasn't quite sure how to take that, since I too am a 'business' person, who though dressed in a pair of shorts and a tee-shirt for the long trip to North Carolina, is in fact a Professional Engineer, here on business. By now, 2 out of the 4 children were fast asleep, 1 (our eldest) was half-asleep watching the NBA finals tucked in bed, and our youngest (the 2 year old) was requesting his usual water before bed. Within 10 minutes we get the third knock, telling us we had to leave the premises. I wish I could explain to you how horribly disrespected my wife and I felt as we carried the sleeping children in their pj's in the night, back into the vehicle we just drove in for 7 hours, or how unfair it felt that there was no proof of noise, but just by someone's claims I had to call around to find accommodations for my family close to MIDNIGHT in an unfamiliar place. I can't tell you how hard it was to see my wife wipe tears as she is packing up, and I could not stand up for her or confront this 'BUSINESS' person whose sleep allegedly was hindered by my family's arrival. To the Managers of Holiday Inn Express Charlotte - My children are now scarred. They are telling each other to whisper and don't move or they will be KICKED out of a hotel, a fear they NEVER EVER had. Next time, make it clear that your facility only accommodates Businessmen, not families. To Lydia - I understand your duty to make sure everyone has a pleasant stay, but it appears you were not concerned about my families stay. Couldn't you have stood by our door to confirm the noise report?? If you would have investigated the matter rather than displacing our family into the night because some customer, who probably paid JUST AS MUCH AS WE DID FOR QUALITY, had some issue. For this unfairness, we are the most disappointed. In case you were concerned, my family was received by another hotel, who from the beginning greeted us with care. We also have received pleasantries from the guests here, commending on how well-mannered and behaved our children are (a comment we ALWAYS receive about our children). The staff at this hotel, went out of their way for our family, not treating us or our children like an inconvenience. I know which hotel we can trust to be treated hospitably. We cannot erase the fear my children now have of being kicked out of a hotel, but hopefully, now they can at least feel welcomed and regarded kindly. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great locaton and confortable enviroment I really enjoyed my stay at this location. I was very surprised on how beautiful the lobby area was I have this picture of how the really Holiday Inn hotels are but I have never been in the express version. I would recommend to anyone to try it and I am sure they would love and enjoy their stay. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Job Well done. June 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by IHG Charlotte Good Choice The only disappointing point is this, as my membership indicates I stay quiet frequently with this hotel chain all over the country- and I find that all morning breakfast items supposed to be hot/warm (eggs for example) are rarely hot. Maybe a corp. decision I do not know, but this is a problem hotel wide. I avoid the suppose to be hot items and go for toast for example. Sorry to say this but its true, eggs, sausage, bacon, sausage, gravy, biscuits are continually served warm/Cool but mostly cold. That’s why I avoid these items. Especially since there is never a microwave available to reheat these items to a more palatable temperature. Corp. try and change these problems, other venues have less of a problem like this, can you fix? June 13, 2016
