Holiday Inn Chester Racecourse is an excellent hotel with great facilities and very helpful and friendly staff. I highly recommend this hotel to anybody looking at staying there. Its close proximity to Chester City Centre is perfect.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by msjrichards13 Probably the worst IHG experience of my year
I arrived quite late, circa 9:45pm to this hotel.
There was no-one on the fount desk and I was stood for about 5 minutes before the woman who was chatting, to a couple, behind me with a baby, acknowledged that she would just be a minute.
I am patient at the best of times, but when the staff member at the bar looks you in the eye as well, and still no-one comes to the front desk with any urgency, you start to wonder if you're settling down in the lobby overnight.
Once the woman who eventually acknowledged me, started the check in process, she was very jokingly trying to laugh off the delay, and made several errors whilst trying to check me in. She used some words to something of the tune of "it's my last night shift so I think I can be let off". I had given up paying attention at this point.
The system hasn't been updated to reflect my IHG rewards status, I was told I was "basic" to which I advised her otherwise, and was then offered neither the drinks or the points, to which I had to ask the question myself.
I got into the room, and it was freezing cold and baltic. I kept my coat on in the immediacy and went searching for the air-con to get some hot air blowing around the room. There was none. Just a radiator mounted on the wall which was switched off. Fair enough, I understand the need for not heating an empty room. It then took the best part of 2 hours to get the room to a desired temperature.
I did not sleep particularly well, as the hotel is in drastic need of a renovation.
I would much rather stay an hour away and commute instead of stay here again. A poor experience all round, and one of the 110+ nights in IHG properties this year that I will be looking to forget.
Unfortunate really as the location isn't too bad.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 OK but hard bed and needs spruce up
Well located functional hotel with convenient free parking (unusual in Chester).
Public spaces a bit tatty in places and due a visit from the decorators.
Clean room, Bed not up to competitor standards, room a bit dated, free internet works. Breakfast OK but basic.
Staff efficient and helpful.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Marybelle234 Great over night stay.
Great over night stay in Chester for our son`s graduation ceremony. Plenty of hotel parking and short walking distance to city centre. Lovely simple, self service breakfast.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by CJ101A Can be noisy
The location of this hotel is ideal for both the city and racecourse. It has a large car park and is very easy to access. Reception is located in the bar area, which means it is not very private, however the staff are always friendly and welcoming. There is a small bar and TV located here. The rooms are only average, though many have been upgraded, they are not large and the walls are thin. Many rooms have connecting doors and that only makes the sound travel further. Generally clean, though the quality of fixtures and fittings is low. Breakfast is very good, with a buffet serving everything except bacon. So if you like your morning rasher, go elsewhere.
