Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First Time to Stay in Chicago We have been in Chicago many times at the airport for layovers, but this is the first time we have stayed in Chicago. The stay was very nice, and we plan to return. The staff at the hotel was great, especially the doormen, who suggested places for us to eat, and how to dress for the weather of the day. The rooms are small, and not very soundproofed, but overall, every thing was very nice, and we would stay at the hotel again. November 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice stay The cleanliness of the entire hotel from the lobby to the room was remarkable. I can honestly say it was the cleanest hotel I have ever seen. Good location to downtown for business, dining, and experiencing the city. November 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay in Chicago! Comfortable hotel with a convenient location and friendly, helpful staff. November 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service, super location! We got nothing short of excellent customer service from the minute we parked the car and walked in the door. Prompt and friendly greeeting, quick check-in, clean and bright room. Close to lots of things you want to see and do in Chicago. My only suggestion would be to get a room on a higher floor as the street noises started very early and made it a little hard to sleep in. Not the hotel's fault by any means. The rooms are small, but served our needs perfectly for a very reasonable price. Thank you Holiday Inn Express for an excellent experience for our one-night get-away to Chicago. November 13, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by New Pillows Needed The pillows we had were pretty bad. It was like someone opened up a bag of cotton balls and spread them out in the pillow case. I like the chain, but this particular hotel needs to upgrade this. Everything else was wonderful, however pillows are a huge part of sleep and since these were poor it made the entire stay fair. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location Good location and the room is very clean. The staff is very nice. November 12, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Quick stay The location and staff were great. My only complaint was the way the room was prepared. My towels smelled very old and were run down. November 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay Hotel Cass is perfectly positioned for the business traveller and offers a comfortable room kept in immaculate condition by the cleaning Staff. The Hotel shows none of its 90 years and it is nice to stay somewhere with this much history, in such a central location but without breaking the bank. Breakfast is plentiful, although go early to avoid the rush at the weekend, and beverages are available all day. The front desk Staff are helpful, knowledgeable and patient with both locals and tourists alike. All this and 2 minutes walk from the magnificent Mile. Well done Hotel Cass. November 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Staff The overall hotel experience was better than expected. The staff was excellent and the rooms were very clean. A great place to stay. November 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service and value My wife and I checked out of the Intercontinental to find out that we had missed our train back to St. Louis and needed a basic room until 6am the next morning. We were both pleasantly surprised with the exceptional level of service given from check in to check out. Each staff member of the hotel gave us their full attention and made certain our stay was satisfactory. The location is perfectly centered around the best Chicago has to offer. The room and amenities were anything but basic and we were extremely satisfied with our stay. The Intercontinental staff should take some pointers from the staff at this hotel. November 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great all round Location was brilliant, staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was always spotless. Will be staying there again for sure. Thank you Cass November 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and Service Staff and services was great and very helpful, told us of good places to eat and what to see. Were more than helpful getting us ( 6 people & Luggage) a Taxi Van to the Union train Station, the day of our departure. November 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A nice hotel, but very tiny rooms This hotel is nice in aspects (food, service, location, etc.) except that the rooms are very tiny. There is a very closet and a very tiny bathroom. Everything else about this hotel is very nice. November 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay (Magnificent Mile) Hotel Cass is a great place to stay near by Magnificent Mile. I went there to run Chicago Marathon. The hotel is just 1,6 miles from the start/finish line, not bad. You can go walking within 15 minutes. And you are just 2 blocks away from subway station,Michigan Ave (Niketown, Garmin,Apple), 4 blocks away from John Hancock Center (The Cheese Cake Factory, The Northface). The room is kind of small, but is very clean, and remodeled. It is included on the rate a self service breakfast (coffee, tea, milk, juices, yogurt, cereal, eggs, sausage, pancake, cinammon roll, different kinds of breads, apple, banana). All employees were very kind and polite. A great value for the stay. November 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location Great deal, location and breakfast!! We could walk everywhere ,lake pier and river. There was even a Trader Joes across the street. October 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location to downtown Awesome location. Within walking distance of the Mag Mile. Rooms are small, but nice. Can request a fridge. October 30, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good deal in the middle of it all, tiny room This room was comfortable and clean, but SOOO tiny. Could barely put my bag down and had to 'scoot' around the bed to get to the bathroom. But for the price and amenities (free wifi and breakfast) it is a great deal in the middle of the Mag Mile. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Value for Money Hotel was in a good location and the reasonably priced. Although room was rather small, it was clean and updated. I would stay at hotel again during my next visit October 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Small but nice rooms. I would definitely stay here again. The staff was helpful & considerate. I didn't do the valet parking because of the cost. Skip the breakfast and go to one of the local cafes. October 26, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ok for business stay but not for couple or families few good things - 1) Good reception/front desk 2) good breakfast 3) in general, clean the bad - 1) Noise level outside the hotel makes sleeping uncomfortable. Windows are not sound proof 2) some rooms layout is pathetic - you just cant work 3) where are the door man when you need the cab? they need to hustle up when its raining outside - again, basic cust service the worse - 1) staff, esp. at breakfast counter -VERY VERY RUDE. They are in line ahead of customers to get food, not even funny. Breakfast staff should be thoroughly trained to deal with customers. October 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Staff we're great!! All of our interactions with the staff were very positive. They went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Great location to visit downtown. October 25, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by a fraction of a mile off the Mile Have been there several times. Simply because of the proximity to downtown and because the rates are not at the upper end in the downtown area. The rooms are a bit small. But the main purpose is to sleep and to go in an island resort. Annoying is the situation with the elevators. Sometimes it can take 5 minutes to get up. Well, downwards I use the stairs. It is good for the health anyway. And if the breakfast buffett is overcrowded (which generally happens on weekends) there are alternatives nearby. October 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by What a treat! What a treat to be able to stay in one of Chicago's historic hotels! This Holiday Inn is formerly Hotel Cass. Don't expect large rooms or bathrooms - this is a renovated older hotel. Do expect cleanliness, charm and top-rate service! The close proximity to The Magnificent Mile at such a great price just couldn't be beat! We enjoyed our stay immensely and would stay here again. October 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Chicago Hotel The location is awesome - just off the beaten path, yet right in the middle of it all! The staff is phenomenal - I had exceptional services from the valet, to the front desk staff to the housekeeping staff! Everyone made you feel like they were there for YOU! The room was a bit small - but it had everything and was very clean and comfortable. I can't wait to visit Chicago and stay at the Holiday Inn - Hotel Cass! Highest recommendation. October 23, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very Small Roooms Our friends stayed at another big brand hotel close by and for only a few dollars more per day had a room twice the size. October 23, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Some eccentricities in room I was generally satisfied with my stay but for one annoying problem: the lack of outlets in the room (#1007), and the configuration of those outlets that the room does have. While the desk in my room had a useful mutli-outlet adapter to plug my phone and laptop into, the extension cord for the adapter itself did not come close to reaching the single outlet on that wall, which was impossible to access because it was directly behind the bed. The solution I came up with was to run the adapter's cord into the outlet on the desk lamp in the room, but this was awkward and far from ideal. Additionally, there was no outlet on the wall by the coffee station, meaning that while it was a nice touch, it was non-functional as it was currently placed, because there was no outlet to plug the coffee maker into. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good but way to noisy We had a room at the end of the hall. I am pretty sure the entire hotwl's plumbing system ran through the wall our bed was on. VERY loud water running for what seemed like EVERY hotel toilet flush or shower. Even at 5am...felt like every 30 mins. Other than disrupted sleep, the hotel was nice, good location & a decent included breakfast....wish it was available past 10am on the weekends. October 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding location & value Located a block off Michigan Ave's magnificent mile & surrounded by great resturants, this Hotel Cass/Holiday Inn Express is an outstanding value for cost. The attentive staff was particularly helpful in suggesting tours, transport, etc. & their personal service helped to give an ambience more like a boutique than an "express". The breakfast was also a bit better with a different omelet & breakfast meat each day & hot cinabuns, biscuits & gravy, fruit, as well as the usual cereals, breads, yogurt. The only down-side was the terrible cost of parking. October 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fair value We enjoyed our stay. The location was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We knew in advance that our room would be small so that was not a problem. But the lack of drawer space was a bit annoying as was the lack of a chair. We had to live out of our suitcases. We have had smaller cabins on a ship and still had room for a desk, a chair and several drawers. We think that Holiday Inn Express should hire an interior designer with experience in ship design to help the next time they do a refurb. We also found the temperature control to be a problem. While it was mostly ok we found that at times we were either freezing or boiling. Despite the shortcomings, the price was right and we would stay again. October 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Location Location Location This is an adorable boutique hotel. The location could not be better. 2 blocks off Michigan Ave and easy to get around. Close to great restaurants and shopping. The room was tiny! It didn't bother us because it was clean and had everything we needed for 2 nights in Chicago. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
